PNR Review: Dying Wish: A Novel of the Sentinel Wars [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Dying Wish" the 6th book in her Sentinel Wars series by Shannon K. Butcher.

Product Description

Jackie Patton has been rescued by the Theronai from her captivity and torture at the hands of the Synestryn, only to learn that she's a potential match for the Theronai warriors who need a woman to literally save their lives.

Forced to choose, she unexpectedly selects Iain, a cold-hearted warrior who doesn't want to be saved. Iain is convinced that it's too late - that his soul is already as dead as his former betrothed, killed by the Synestryn. Still, he is the only one she wants. But is Iain indeed beyond saving?

About the Author

After spending too many years as an industrial engineer, Shannon learned to write from her husband, bestselling author Jim Butcher. She learned writing craft in order to help him with his stories, but found the idea of writing her own too compelling to resist. She lives in Missouri with her husband and son, where conversations at the dinner table are more often about things someone made up than about anything that’s actually happened. Feel free to contact Shannon via her website.

My Review:

Jackie Patton just wants to go back to living a normal life after being rescued from a two-year horrifying and cruel captivity Synestryn by the Theronai.  We found out in Blood Hunt she is Helen Day's sister by blood and she is able to bond with any Theronai warrior.  A whole bunch of male warriors are willing to mate with her but she is scarred from her captivity and torture and they will be no way she can fake being happy with any of them.

She is forced to pick one Theronai so everyone is shocked she picks cold hearted Iain Terra who makes her feel safe.  He coldly rejects her because he's the leader of a group of Theronai's who have lost their souls called The Band of the Barren.  He has successfully hidden their predicament from their leader to prevent their death sentence.  He really wants Jackie but with his soul intact so he can live a long-term comfortable and happy life.

They both team up to save a recently rescued child from being kidnapped again to find more Synestryn lairs to invade and destroy.  Of course this brings them closer in proximity and to get to know each other more.

This book was very fast paced with non-stop action with two scarred individuals who learn to deal with their ordeals by finding love and trusting each other.  We also learn a big secret about Jackie - but you will have to read to find out!

I really enjoyed how Jackie was able to tame Iain's monster Stan (the name she gave him) and I thought he wasn't too harsh with Jackie.

Now I'm eagerly awaiting Cain and Nicholas books!

Language: English
ISBN-10: 0451234294
ISBN-13: 978-0451234292

My Review:

Logan's race must feed from blood of special humans or die. These people are scarce and his race is slowly starving/dying. His main goal is to save his race and protect, care for and join those who carry the precious blood to sustain them. While trying to save a couple who has this special blood he is saved by the aid of a courageous woman named Hope. A woman whose blood calls to him but whom he cannot have.

Hope has no memory of her past but she has the urge to help others. Her mission is to find homeless friend but that is interrupted when she witnesses Logan struggling with an beast and she saves him with her blood. She can see auras around people and she senses Logan is a very brave honorable man. She also senses she must help him.

I loved this book because Logan and Hope's romance was very well developed and they suited each other.  It was very action packed from the first page to the last.  Logan was so gentlemanly with Hope and it was so much fun watching him struggle with his feelings for her.

We also catch up with Caine and Sybil who is dealing with the death of her parents and the repercussions of that and Nika and Madoc with her sister Tori and Andra and Helen with their sister Jackie.

My Review:

This was a very exhilarating exciting read from the very first page to the very last page.

Lucas Ramsey left the military due to a severe injury. However, when his former superior officer The old man orders him to protect Sloane Gideon with his life, he asks no questions and begins his duty. However the Old Man omits two pieces of key information when a shooting occurs at a gala where Lucas planed to meet Sloane who marked him as Mr. Tuxedo. First her occupation is personal protection as she works as a bodyguard for the Edge; and second she is the Old Man's daughter. It is the latter that shakes Lucas as he cannot picture the cold logical General with an offspring.

Columbian drug cartel leader Lorenzo Soma abducts Sloane's friend Gina who called last night explaining her frightening predicament before the phone was taken away. Mr. Tuxedo tries to stop Sloane from boarding a plane, but she knocks him out with a blow to his temple. Having underestimating Sloane, he follows her to Colombia with the Old Man's warning him to play hardball with his daughter. The former Ranger catches up to her in South America where she accepts his offer of assistance as she wonders why Soma kidnapped her best friend and how will she extract Gina from this cold blooded killer while Lucas wonders how to extract Sloane from Columbia when she insists on a jungle expedition.

The attraction between Sloan and Lucas sizzles from the moment they first meet while both are at the top of their game. They are well matched pair and make a very deadly duo. Lucas is reluctant to hurt Sloane which  she uses to her advantage when evading him. It was fascinating watching Sloan keep Lucas on his toes. I really liked Sloan is a strong confident woman who can kick butt and loves her weapons. I really liked Lucas because he is a cool, sexy alpha male and doesn't totally try to dominate her like many alpha male military heroes do.  Lucas seemed more realistic and genuine and I felt like he really respected Sloane.

My Review:

I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend this series if you like your paranormals with a great storyline and hunky heroes.

Zach is the kind of guy any parent would want for their daughter.

I can understand why Lexi would be running away from Zach and I'm glad that she changed her opinion by the end of the book!

I've just finished reading "Love You to Death" by Shannon K. Butcher.

LOVE YOU TO DEATH

It's been days since reporter Elise McBride has heard from her sister, Ashley. But just as desire ignites between them, a twisted madman sets his sights on Elise. Hell-bent on possessing her for himself, this psychopath won't rest until he has his perfect woman.

About the Author

Shannon K. Butcher learned to write from her husband, bestselling author Jim Butcher, as she helped him with his stories. Soon she found the idea of creating he own too compelling to resist and, after too many years workign as an industrial engineer, gladly left that career to write full time. Shannon lives in Missouri with her husband and son, where conversations at the dinner table are more often about fictional things than things that actually happened. You can contact her at her website, http://www.shannonkbutcher.com/.

My Review:

Storyline:  This storyline was quite different then what I have read in other romantic suspense books and he makes another victim watch him kill another victim. Didn't like he did to the women and how he did it and why!

Characters: I really enjoyed Elise and Trent's characters because they were both stubborn, level-headed and they both were well written.

Romance: I really enjoyed reading the romance between Elise and Trent because it was sweet and it reminds me of really life too.  I'm glad he didn't take advantage of her when she is in pain that her sister is missing and they built their relationship slowly.

Killer: The killer acted normally in his day job and no one would suspect him.  Unfortunately he was a nutcase and I'm glad he got what was coming to him (it was quite fitting).  I really enjoyed reading that part!  LOL!

Burning Alive: The Sentinel Wars (Paperback)

I've just finished reading "Burning Alive" the 1st book in her Sentinel Wars series by Shannon K. Butcher.

Product Description

First in an all-new paranormal romance series

Caution: readers may feel the heat coming off the pages.

They are the Sentinels...

Three races descended from ancient guardians of mankind, each possessing unique abilities in their battle to protect humanity against their eternal foes-the Synestryn. Now, one warrior must fight his own desire if he is to discover the power that lies within his one true love...

Helen Day is haunted by visions of herself surrounded by flames, as a dark-haired man watches her burn. So when she sees the man of her nightmares staring at her from across a diner, she attempts to flee-but instead ends up in the man's arms. There, she awakens a force more powerful and enticing than she could ever imagine. For the man is actually Theronai warrior Drake, whose own pain is driven away by Helen's presence.

Together, they may become more than lovers-they may become a weapon of light that could tip the balance of the war and save Drake's people...

My review:

I really enjoyed reading this book and it was fast paced right from the start.

Helen was a great heroine to Drake and wouldn't take his manly tatics and she could give right back to him.

The only thing I didn't like was when a character Thomas died (I liked him and would have loved to have seen a book with him).
