PNR Review: Shadowdance (Darkest London) Mass Market Paperback

I've finished "Shadowdance" the 4th book in her Darkest London series by Kristen Callihan.

Once a heart is lost in shadow

Life has been anything but kind to Mary Chase. But the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals has given her purpose. Now she's been tasked with catching a vicious murderer dubbed the Bishop of Charing Cross. But someone is already on the case-and the last thing he relishes is a partner.

Only someone who lives in darkness can find it.

Jack Talent has been alone with his demons for many years.

He never expected to have the willful Mary Chase assist him on the Bishop case. Their age-old rivalry reaches new heights - even as their desire for one another reaches a fever pitch. Though he aches to bring her close, Jack's dark secrets are a chasm between them. With dangerous enemies closing in, Jack must find the strength to face the past or risk losing Mary forever.

About the Author

Kristen Callihan is a child of the eighties, which means she's worn neon skirts, black lace gloves, and combat boots (although never all at once) and can quote John Hughes movies with the best of them. A lifelong daydreamer, she finally realized that the characters in her head needed a proper home and thus hit the keyboard. She believes that falling in love is one of the headiest experiences a person can have, so naturally she writes romance. Her love of superheroes, action movies, and history led her to write historical paranormals. She lives in the Washington, D.C., area and, when not writing, looks after two children, one husband, and a dog - the fish can fend for themselves.

My Review:

Jack Talent is a shapeshifter who after being kidnapped and tortured at the end of book 3 Winterblaze, he has withdrawn from his friends and family.  As a result, it is hurting everyone.

Mary Chase is in training to become a SOS Regulator and she has volunteered for her first case which involves the Bishop of Charing Cross.  The demon has been murdering people for months and Jack has been investigating for about year but hasn't been able to solve the case.  Then the SOS receive some disturbing news:  Jack is the deadly Bishop.

Even though Mary is attracted to Jack she has vowed to bring him down even though she figured out he was only murdering to exact revenge against the ones who hurt and tortured him in the past.

I highly recommend this book if you a dark and intriguing storyline, angst and sexual attraction that will blow your mind away and well-written characters.

My Review:

One night when Daisy was leaving a party celebrating her freedom from her long dead husband she is attacked by a creature.  Ian Ranulf is nearby and hears her terrified screams and comes to her rescue.  He is terrified because he knows the creature is a werewolf and he knows what will happen to their kind if found out.  As you know, Ian is a werewolf himself and is exiled from his Ranulf clan.  He takes Daisy to his home to question her about the attack and the creature and asks her not to tell the public about what she saw.

They decide to team up and investigate the werewolf attacks and then bodies start showing up in horrible fashion.  They discover that the werewolf is attracted to Daisy perfume scent and is going after everyone that is wearing that scent.  Ian also runs into his younger brother Conall the Ranulf King who has a major grudge against him.

Ian is working through some tough issues with the lost of his father and the seclusion from his fellow clan members.  He regrets his actions regarding Miranda Daisy's younger sister and wants to prove to her that he has changed.

I really enjoyed the romance between Daisy the bold, smart, courageous but troubled women and the dark  tortured Ian because you can feel the tension between them and the trust and love they find.  Ian is always complimenting and flirting with Daisy and it was quite sizzling.
