MT Review: Personal (Jack Reacher)

I've finished "Personal" the book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Jack Reacher returns in the latest fast-moving, action-packed, suspenseful book from Lee Child.

You can leave the army, but the army doesn’t leave you. Not always. Not completely, notes Jack Reacher — and sure enough, the retired military cop is soon pulled back into service. This time, for the State Department and the CIA.

Someone has taken a shot at the president of France in the City of Light. The bullet was American. The distance between the gunman and the target was exceptional. How many snipers can shoot from three-quarters of a mile with total confidence? Very few, but John Kott — an American marksman gone bad — is one of them. And after fifteen years in prison, he’s out, unaccounted for, and likely drawing a bead on a G8 summit packed with enough world leaders to tempt any assassin.

If anyone can stop Kott, it’s the man who beat him before: Reacher. And though he’d rather work alone, Reacher is teamed with Casey Nice, a rookie analyst who keeps her cool with Zoloft. But they’re facing a rough road, full of ruthless mobsters, Serbian thugs, close calls, double-crosses — and no backup if they’re caught. All the while Reacher can’t stop thinking about the woman he once failed to save. But he won’t let that that happen again. Not this time. Not Nice.

Reacher never gets too close. But now a killer is making it personal.

MT Review: Never Go Back: A Jack Reacher Novel Hardcover

I've finished "Never Go Back" the book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had.

Reacher is there to meet — in person — the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.

But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

When threatened, you can run or fight.

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.

Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces — and makes him question who he is, what he’s done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

My Review:

Jack Reacher decides to go back to his old stomping grounds to meet Major Susan Turner because he is intrigued by her warm voice.  When he arrives he is met by hostility and a man behind the desk who confines him back to the Army.

I did like the storyline but a few times Reacher does make some dumb mistakes even though he is a smart man and near the end the story was starting to bog down.

MT Review: A Wanted Man: A Jack Reacher Novel [Hardcover]

I've finished "A Wanted Man" the 17th book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Product Description

Reacher is back! A Wanted Man is a new masterpiece of suspense — from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child.

Four people in a car, hoping to make Chicago by morning. One man driving, eyes on the road. Another man next to him, telling stories that don’t add up. A woman in the back, silent and worried. And next to her, a huge man with a broken nose, hitching a ride east to Virginia.

An hour behind them, a man lies stabbed to death in an old pumping station. He was seen going in with two others, but he never came out. He has been executed, the knife work professional, the killers vanished. Within minutes, the police are notified. Within hours, the FBI descends, laying claim to the victim without ever saying who he was or why he was there.

All Reacher wanted was a ride to Virginia. All he did was stick out his thumb. But he soon discovers he has hitched more than a ride. He has tied himself to a massive conspiracy that makes him a threat — to both sides at once.

In Lee Child’s white-hot thriller, nothing is what it seems, and nobody is telling the truth. As the tension rises, the twists come fast and furious, keeping readers guessing and gasping until the explosive finale.

My Review:

A murder has taken place in middle of nowhere and the police already have a description of the car the two killers were seen driving off in.  The killers believe a third man in the car would help them get past the police road blocks.  They spot a hitchhiker on the road but unfortunately it's Jack Reacher who wants a ride out of Nebraska to Virginia.  As they get further away Reacher realizes there is something more about the people inside the car.  Back at the crime scene various agencies have gathered with different levels of skills and agendas with a female FBI agent as the key player (she's a female version of Reacher).

Finally the agents catch up with Reacher who was abandoned and when another murder takes place which gives them a clue to the killers.  Reacher teams up with a two female FBI agents to bring down the baddies with fatal results. We learn the reason who and why the first murder took place as Reacher closes on the killers.

The car scenes were very intense and suspenseful.

MT Review: The Affair: A Reacher Novel (Jack Reacher) [Hardcover]

I've finished "The Affair" the 16th book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Product Description

Everything starts somewhere. . . . For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A coverup.

A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.

Reacher is ordered undercover — to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control.

Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice — and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust one another, Reacher and Deveraux reluctantly join forces.  Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission, and turn him into a man to be feared.

My Review:

In 1997 the Army is sending Rangers out of the Fort Kelham military base near Carter Crossing, Mississippi s during a covert action in Kosovo. The mission is hush hush but the people know something is going on because they see Rangers coming in and out of the local bars and stores. Then a horrifying murder of a woman is found with her throat slit, drained of blood, and then posed in an alley as if she bled out there.

The Army believes someone on the military base maybe responsible so they send an investigator to the base to investigate on the inside and also send Reacher undercover to observe and monitor the investigation.

When he reaches Carter Crossing Elizabeth Devereaux the gorgeous police chief makes him out as a military person - since she was a Marine herself, orders him to leave and leave the investigation to her.  When Reacher finds some key details she missed they decide to work together.  She is also trying to solve the murder of two other women who as Reacher digs deeper he realizes they are connected to a conspiracy within the Army.

This book is very fast paced, well written with a great storyline and Reacher is at his best!

I really like how Reacher and Elizabeth worked well together in and out of bed.  I thought the sex scenes were very hilarious in this book - a train is going by very close and everything in the room is moving and bumping or the one outside during the train going by.

Worth Dying For [Hardcover]

I've finished "Worth Dying For" the 14th book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Product Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child follows the electrifying 61 Hours with his latest Reacher thriller — a story that hits the ground running and then accelerates all the way to a colossal showdown.

There’s deadly trouble in the corn country of Nebraska . . . and Jack Reacher walks right into it. First he falls foul of the Duncans, a local clan that has terrified an entire county into submission. But it’s the unsolved case of a missing child, already decades-old, that Reacher can’t let go.

The Duncans want Reacher gone — and it’s not just past secrets they’re trying to hide. They’re awaiting a secret shipment that’s already late — and they have the kind of customers no one can afford to annoy. For as dangerous as the Duncans are, they’re just the bottom of a criminal food chain stretching halfway around the world.

For Reacher, it would have made much more sense to keep on going, to put some distance between himself and the hard-core trouble that’s bearing down on him.

For Reacher, that was also impossible.

My Review:

This book starts off soon after 61 Hours.  Reacher is alive but you don't find out how he survived until later in the book!

Reacher is in rural Nebraska. He's on his way to Virginia and only intends to stop for a night, when he is drawn into what initially looks like a domestic dispute but ends up being something much bigger. The town is under the control of a very unpleasant family called the Duncans, who own a transportation company. The local farmers are dependent on the company and therefore live in fear of them. The Duncans have an important shipment coming in, which has been delayed. This is causing problems for their customer and for the customers of their customer. Consequently a food chain of increasingly nasty villains gets involved, with lots of double crossing and mind games going on. Tied into all this somehow is the mystery of a local girl who disappeared 25 years ago and whose body has never been found.

This book reminded me of Nothing to Lose because of the endless driving in a small community and getting rid of a clan of bad people!

My Review:

Storyline: There are three storylines happening in this book.  The first has to do with who's killing people, who's the inside man and to protect a witness for an upcoming trial.

Characters:   Some of the characters are well written and you get the feeling you might know some of them in real life.  The others aren't as fleshed out!

Romance:  No romance in this book!

Killer:  There is a reason why the killer was killing people but you will have to read!  I had a suspicion who the killer was because of some clues!

Gone Tomorrow (Jack Reacher, No. 13) (Hardcover)

I've just finished reading "Gone Tomorrow" the 13th book in his Jack Reacher series by Lee Child.

Book Description
New York City. Two in the morning. A subway car heading uptown. Jack Reacher, plus five other passengers. Four are okay. The fifth isn’t.

In the next few tense seconds Reacher will make a choice--and trigger an electrifying chain of events in this gritty, gripping masterwork of suspense by #1 New York Times bestseller Lee Child.

Susan Mark was the fifth passenger. She had a lonely heart, an estranged son, and a big secret. Reacher, working with a woman cop and a host of shadowy feds, wants to know just how big a hole Susan Mark was in, how many lives had already been twisted before hers, and what danger is looming around him now.

Because a race has begun through the streets of Manhattan in a maze crowded with violent, skilled soldiers on all sides of a shadow war. Susan Mark’s plain little life was critical to dozens of others in Washington, California, Afghanistan . . . from a former Delta Force operator now running for the U.S. Senate, to a beautiful young woman with a fantastic story to tell–and to a host of others who have just one thing in common: They’re all lying to Reacher. A little. A lot. Or maybe just enough to get him killed.

In a novel that slams through one hairpin surprise after another, Lee Child unleashes a thriller that spans three decades and gnaws at the heart of America . . . and for Jack Reacher, a man who trusts no one and likes it that way, it’s a mystery with only one answer–the kind that comes when you finally get face-to-face and look your worst enemy in the eye.

My review:

I highly recommend this series!
