Contemp Review: One Heart to Win

I've finished "One Heart to Win" by Johanna Lindsey.
Product Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsey presents a passionate novel of hidden identities, family secrets, and a love that transcends a fifty-year feud, set in the majestic ranchland of 1880s Montana Territory.

Some young ladies marry for money and social standing, a few lucky ones marry for love, but Tiffany Warren is marrying to end a feud. Honoring her mother’s wishes, Tiffany reluctantly travels west to meet her estranged father and his enemy’s eldest son, rancher Hunter Callahan. Once the Warrens and the Callahans are united by marriage, both clans will stop squabbling over a disputed strip of land. But in the chaos of a train robbery Tiffany seizes a golden opportunity: By assuming the identity of her father’s new housekeeper she can live with the father she never knew and assess his true character, as well as that of the neighboring cowboy to whom she is betrothed. But, too late, Tiffany discovers that the rivalry between the Warrens and the Callahans has escalated when the Callahans steal the Warrens’ “housekeeper” as soon as she steps off the train!

Now Tiffany, masquerading as Jennifer Fleming, finds herself living in the enemy camp, under the same roof as her fiancĂ©. All too soon she learns her intended is a handsome, sweet-talking charmer whom she has to fight off because he can’t keep his eyes — or his hands — off Jennifer. After Tiffany’s charade is exposed, she refuses to marry Hunter, not even to end the hostilities between the families. How can she wed a man who is in love with another woman? As Hunter goes about claiming his rightful bride-to-be, he knows that although he loves two women — proper, elegant Tiffany as well as spunky, passionate Jennifer — he has only one heart to win.

My Review:

Tiffany Warren was betrothed to Hunter Callihan the oldest son to end a feud when she was only 3 years old.  She has lived with her mother in NYC during the last 15 years but her mom refuses to reveal why she left her husband in Montana but stayed married to him.  Now Tiffany is on her way to Montana for upcoming nuptials and to live with her father who hasn't visited her and is a complete stranger to her.

Mistaken identity has her working as a housekeeper at the Callihan ranch to let her know what her fiancee Hunter is really like and to avoid meeting her father who she resents.  Of course Hunter falls for the housekeeper which makes it even more complicated.

This book was quite humorous, with well developed characters who are likeable and an interesting story background.  I really found the loyal gunslinger Degan Grant very intriguing and I hope he gets his own book.

4/5

Historical Review: Let Love Find You [Hardcover]

I've finished "Let Love Find You" by Johanna Lindsey.

Product Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsey’s dazzling new tale of a desperate debutante whose family hires an innovative matchmaker to ensure her marriage features one of Lindsey’s most beloved heroines: Amanda Locke, sister to dashing Rafe Locke from the “elegantly sensual” (Booklist) The Devil Who Tamed Her!

London society has its very own Cupid. Renowned horse breeder and occasional matchmaker Devin Baldwin pairs eligible young ladies with suitable gentlemen based on his theory of animal magnetism. Unafraid of ruffling the ton’s feathers, this darkly handsome Cupid doles out tips for bettering one’s chances of meeting a mate that are as pointed as the love legend’s sharpest arrows!

Lovely Amanda Locke, the daughter of a duke, is everything a nobleman could desire, yet she enters her third Season still searching for a match. Gossipmongers’ tongues are wagging, and her mystified family is considering drastic measures to find her a husband. But the insufferable advice of this Cupid fellow is the last thing Amanda wants.

When an earl passionate about horses becomes the target of her husband hunt, Amanda knows it’s time to overcome her fear of riding. With her sister-in-law Ophelia hastening the romance along by arranging riding lessons, Amanda is soon taking instruction from infuriating Devin Baldwin. Astonishingly, in her daily encounters with Devin — who treats her as an ordinary young woman, not a prize to be won at the marriage mart — Amanda experiences passion for the first time. Now, her search for a match takes her in an unexpected direction as she finds herself falling in love with Cupid himself.

My Review:

Wow it's been awhile since I've read a Johanna Lindsey book so I was very happy to have the opportunity to read "Let Love Find You".

I highly recommend reading this book if you love a sexy alpha male who enjoys making love connections between his clients, has a way with horses and a strong willed heroine.

Devin Baldwin (aka Cupid) is a renowned horsebreeder and occasional matchmaker between young eligible women and suitable gentlemen.  This nickname irritates Devin to no end!

Amanda Locke is very beautiful and charming but hasn't found true long for two Seasons.  She finally hopes to find one in her Third Season.

She is interested in two men but to catch the eye of one she needs to overcome her fear of riding a horse.  During her childhood she fell off a horse and hasn't been on one ever since.  This isn't an easy task for Devlin since he's not a patient man and he's very honest and tells her how it is.  I'm glad how he kept pushing her and she finally overcame her fear of riding and enjoyed it again.

The banter between these two was very hot, sexy, spicy and witty.  Every time these two meet I was just waiting for them to jump each other and rip each others clothes off.  It was quite a competition between them to see who would reign on top.
