A Shiver of Light (A Merry Gentry Novel)

I've finished "A Shiver of Light" the 9th book in her Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. Legal name Meredith Gentry, because “Princess” looks so pretentious on a driver’s license. I was the first faerie princess born on American soil, but I wouldn’t be the only one for much longer.

Merry Gentry, ex–private detective, now full-time princess, knew she was descended from fertility goddesses, but when she learned she was about to have triplets, she began to understand what that might mean. Infertility has plagued the high ranks of faerie for centuries. Now nobles of both courts of faerie are coming to court Merry and her men, at their home in exile in the Western Lands of Los Angeles, because they will do anything to have babies of their own.

Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, is a more dangerous problem. He tried to seduce Merry and, failing that, raped her. He’s using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. And though Merry knows she was already pregnant when he took her, she can’t prove it.

To save herself and her babies from Taranis she will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie — while trying to keep the war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.

My Review:

This book dealt with a lot more plot and story then the usual at least 10 sex scenes. There are two very descriptive and detailed sex scenes though!

Taranis is more front and center and evil, disgusting and vile more than ever!

There was a shocking and unnecessary death of a major character!

Jason (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter)

I've finished "Jason" by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

"Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don't. If you get it, then you don't really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don't get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense."

But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she'll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake's best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She's accomplished, beautiful, and she's crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can't meet that need, just like she can't meet Jason's need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn't understand why Jason isn’t content to go elsewhere for a need she can’t fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita's life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget.

My Review:

Wow this book was quite the trip!

WARNING:

Lot of love scenes that are very descriptive and downright naughty!

I did enjoy the scenes with Anita, Jason and Nate but didn't enjoy the ones with J.J. and Jade (a big turn off for me - not my thing)!

If you thought Narcissus in Chains was not your kind of book then definitely don't read Jason.

My Review:

A fifteen year old girl is kidnapped and Anita is put on Marshal duty.  She finds out a group of vampires bitten by Benjamin an old World Master Vampire don't want to serve a master and want their freedom they are willing to die for their cause.

Anita the Preternatural Unit U.S. Marshal Vampire Executioner breaks down Barney a fledgling vampire into giving the location of their lair and the girl.  Anita and her colleagues are expecting a trap but when they enter the lair they find kids, grandparents and soccer moms turned vampires.  Anita uses psychological torture to find out the location of where the other vampires live.

While investigating the vampire turnings Anita begins to doubt her relationship to eighteen year old Sin and the jealously of Asher.  Anita enters the Circus Nightclub to spend time with her vampire lover Jean-Claude accompanied by her live-in lovers wereleopards Micah and Nathaniel.  Asher becomes so mad he fights with his male lover injuring Anita along the way.  Jean-Claude is enraged and tells Asher to leave St. Louis immediately while another vampire is plotting the demise of Anita, Jean-Claude and her friends.

This latest entry in the Anita Blake series is a great edition with a kick ass heroine and great storyline.  The action was very fast paced and I'm glad Anita finally has control over the Ardeur.  She doesn't have to rely on her men when she is working her cases.

I really enjoyed reading the love scene between Anita and Nathaniel but I skipped the ones she had with Micah (I'm not a fan of his).

Bullet (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter) [Hardcover]

I've finished "Bullet" the 19th book in her Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

The music came back up and the next group of little girls, slightly older, came out. There was a lot of that in the next hour and change. I liked dance, and it was no reflection on the kids, but my will to live began to seep away on about the fifth group of sequined children...

Anita Blake is back in St. Louis and trying to live a normal life-as normal as possible for someone who is a legal vampire executioner and a U. S. Marshal. There are lovers, friends and their children, school programs to attend. In the midst of all the ordinary happiness a vampire from Anita's past reaches out. She was supposed to be dead, killed in an explosion, but the Mother of All Darkness is the first vampire, their dark creator. It's hard to kill a god. This dark goddess has reached out to her here-in St. Louis, home of everyone Anita loves most. The Mother of All Darkness has decided she has to act now or never, to control Anita, and all the vampires in America.

The Mother of All Darkness believes that the triumvirate created by master vampire Jean-Claude with Anita and the werewolf Richard Zeeman has enough power for her to regain a body and to immigrate to the New World. But the body she wants to possess is already taken. Anita is about to learn a whole new meaning to sharing her body, one that has nothing to do with the bedroom. And if the Mother of All Darkness can't succeed in taking over Anita's body for herself, she means to see that no one else has the use of it, ever again. Even Belle Morte, not always a friend to Anita, has sent word: "Run if you can..."

My Review:

Alot was going on in this book and it was really exciting fast packed read.  I had trouble putting it down!

I'm really glad to see Richard Zeeman (my favorite character) back in this book and really trying to overcome his issues.  He really did want to help make the triumvirate stronger and to help Jean-Claude become a better vampire king.

I'm glad that the characters are described in great detail because I actually forget what some of them look like and it helps me visualize how they look.

It was good to see allies coming together to help ward off the Mother of Darkness and to see some new lions, etc.

For the critics the scene scenes weren't too graphic this time around (didn't bother me when they were) and were necessary to the storyline.  Anita has added some people to her bed but it was necessary and I don't think you will be disappointed!

Anita did some butt-kicking which the persons did deserve so I was glad they got what was coming to them!  Anita was affected by an event that happened by her own hands and I feel for her and I don't blame on how she feels!

I understand why that happened and why it was necessary!

Flirt (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 18)

I've finished "Flirt" the 18th book in her Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

The New York Times bestselling series.

When Anita Blake meets with prospective client Tony Bennington, who is desperate to have her reanimate his recently deceased wife, she is full of sympathy for his loss. Anita knows something about love, and she knows everything there is to know about loss. But what she also knows, though Tony Bennington seems unwilling to be convinced, is that the thing she can do as a necromancer isn't the miracle he thinks he needs. The creature that Anita could coerce to step out of the late Mrs. Bennington's grave would not be the lovely Mrs. Bennington. Not really. And not for long.

Divine Misdemeanors: A Novel (Meredith Gentry, Book 8)

I've just finished reading "Divine Misdemeanors:  A Novel" the 8th book in her Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

You may know me best as Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie. Or perhaps as Merry Gentry, Los Angeles private eye. In the fey and mortal realms alike, my life is the stuff of royal intrigue and celebrity drama. Among my own, I have confronted horrendous enemies, endured my noble kin’s treachery and malevolence, and honored my duty to conceive a royal heir—all for the right to claim the throne. But I turned my back on court and crown, choosing exile in the human world—and in the arms of my beloved Frost and Darkness.

While I may have rejected the monarchy, I cannot abandon my people. Someone is killing the fey, which has left the LAPD baffled and my guardsmen and me deeply disturbed. My kind are not easily captured or killed. At least not by mortals. I must get to the bottom of these horrendous murders, even if that means going up against Gilda, the Fairy Godmother, my rival for fey loyalties in Los Angeles.

But even stranger things are happening. Mortals I once healed with magic are suddenly performing miracles, a shocking phenomenon wreaking havoc on human/faerie relations. Though I am innocent, dark suspicions of banned magical activities swirl around me.

I thought I’d left the blood and politics behind in my own turbulent realm. I had dreamed of an idyllic life in sunny L.A. with my beloved ones beside me. But it becomes time to wake up and realize that evil knows no borders, and that nobody lives forever—even if they’re magical.

Skin Trade (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 17) (Hardcover)

I've just finished reading "Skin Trade" the 17th book in her Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

From Publishers Weekly

Hamilton's 17th Anita Blake novel draws the vampire hunter into a game of cat-and-mouse with a particularly monstrous vampire named Vittorio. Aided by sadistic serial killer Otto Jefferies, convenient sociopath Edward Kemper and fanged escorts handpicked by her lover Jean-Claude, U.S. marshal Anita offers her services to Las Vegas, now under siege from Vittorio's army of enthralled preternatural beings. Manipulated by the cunning Vittorio and occasionally misled by coincidental events, Anita employs her insight into Vittorio's condition and weaponized libido as the decisive weapons in this struggle.

Product Description

A proven series with a hot new look. The #1 bestselling author returns with her most anticipated novel yet.

When a vampire serial killer sends Anita Blake a grisly souvenir from Las Vegas, she has to warn Sin City’s local authorities what they’re dealing with. Only it’s worse than she thought. Ten officers and one executioner have been slain—paranormal style. Anita heads to Vegas, where’s she’s joined by three other federal marshals, including the ruthless Edward. It’s a good thing he always has her back, because when she gets close to the bodies, Anita senses “tiger” too strongly to ignore it. The weretigers are very powerful in Las Vegas, which means the odds of her rubbing someone important the wrong way just got a lot higher.

My review:

This is one of the better Anita books because it deals more with storyline then the sex. Also you don't see Micah (I really hate that guy) and I just want to kill him. LOL!

I know that some people were icked when they find out that Anita had sex with a 16 yr. old shapeshifter. I had no problem with it because she didn't know that she did until the next morning.

Swallowing Darkness (Meredith Gentry, Book 7) (Hardcover)

I've just finished reading "Swallowing Darkness" the 7th book in her Merry Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Product Description

I am Meredith, princess of faerie, wielder of the hands of Flesh and Blood, and at long last, I am with child–twins, fathered by my royal guard. Though my uncle, Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, claims that he is the true father since he abducted me from my home, betrayed, and defiled me. And now he has branded my guards as a threat to my unborn children.

Bearing an heir has placed me halfway to my aunt’s throne, that much closer to my reign over the Unseelie Court–and well ahead of her son, my cousin Cel, in this race. Now I must stay alive to see my children born and claim my place as queen.

But not all in faerie are pleased with the news, and conspirators from every court in the realm plot against me and mine. They seek to strip my guards, my lovers, from me by poisoned word or cold steel. But I still have supporters, and even friends, among the goblins and the sluagh, who will stand by me.

I am Meredith Nic Essus, and those who would defy and destroy me are destined to pay a terrible price–for I am truly my father’s daughter. To protect what is mine, I will sacrifice anything–even if it means waging a great battle against my darkest enemies and making the most momentous decision ever made as princess of faerie.
