Bunny Express Saturday 2015 (Feb 28)

Bunny Express Saturday is hosted every Saturday at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews.

I received these in the mail this week.

For Review:

As a child, Bailey Browne dreamed of a knight in shining armor swooping in to rescue her and her mother. As she grows older, those dreams transform, becoming ones of a mysterious stranger who will sweep her off her feet and whisk her away from her ordinary existence. Then, suddenly, there he is. Despite the ten year difference in their ages, her working class upbringing and his of privilege, Logan Abbott and Bailey fall deeply in love. Marriage quickly follows.

But when Logan brings her home to his horse farm in Louisiana, a magnificent estate on ninety wooded acres, her dreams of happily-ever-after begin to unravel. A tragic family history she knew nothing about surfaces, plus whisperings about the disappearance of his first wife, True, and rumors about the women from the area who have gone missing — and when another woman disappears, all signs point to her husband's involvement.

At first Bailey ignores the whispers, even circumstantial evidence against Logan mounts. But finally, Bailey must make a choice: believe what everyone says — or bet her life on the man she loves, but is realizing she hardly knows.

From the author of Justice for Sara, Erica Spindler's The First Wife is a thrilling new novel that will have you gasping on every page.

Half man, half animal, a Shadow Shifter must walk the line between predator and prey, hunger and obsession — to capture the woman he loves.

A natural born hunter proud of his birthright, Ezra Preston agrees to hide his identity and pretend to be human — to learn what his enemies know of his kind. But even undercover, it’s not in his nature to play games with a woman. Especially when he discovers the beautiful creature has been keeping secrets of her own.

This is no ordinary woman he’s stalking but an alluring and mysterious cat thief — with dangerous secrets of her own.

Jewel Jenner has plotted and schemed for months, hiding her knowledge of a top-secret operation to save her ailing father. Captivated by her passion, skill, and courage, Ezra wants to help Jewel on her mission. But when he discovers how far she’s gone — sleeping with the enemy to steal a fortune in diamonds — he must decide if he can trust this enthralling woman with his secret or trust his fiercest instincts when he’s near her, in Hunger’s Mate by A.C. Arthur.

From New York Times bestselling author Sarah Castille comes Rough Justice, a scorching new series featuring red-hot, hard-riding bikers and the women who can’t help but love them.

IT TAKES A GOOD, STRONG WOMAN

Raised in a motorcycle gang, tough, beautiful Arianne Wilder has always dreamed of a normal life. But no sooner does she escape her father’s domineering grasp than she wakes up to find herself in a rival gang’s clubhouse — at the mercy of the dangerously sexy Jagger Knight.

TO TAME A MAN WHO’S HELL ON WHEELS

The alpha leader of the notorious Sinner’s Tribe, Jagger Knight is all muscle, all biker, and all man. But somewhere inside this hard, tattooed outlaw, Arianne senses a kindred spirit — and she can’t ignore their tempestuous attraction. Can she beat him at his own game in a revved-up blaze of glory? Or will their passion spark a war that’s the end of the road for them both?

Sopes, Tamales, Pozole, Huevos Rancheros -- you've never had Mexican food like this! Daily Tortilla starts with the basics of tortillas, beans, rice, and salsas, and then builds to an incredibly delicious repertoire of dishes found in any family dining room in Mexico. Say adios to Americanized Mexican food -- this is authentic, south-of-the-border flavor at its finest!

Six years ago, Melody Pieterson was attacked and left for dead. Only a chance encounter with a dog walker saved her life. Melody's neighbor and close friend David Alden was found guilty of the crime and imprisoned, and the attack and David's betrayal of her friendship left Melody a different person. She no longer trusts her own judgment, she no longer trusts her friends. In fact, she no longer really has any friends. She's built a life behind walls and gates and security codes; she's cloistered herself away from the world almost entirely.

And then, soon after David is released from prison, Eve Elliot is murdered in an attack almost identical to Melody's. With the start of a new police investigation, Melody is suddenly pulled from her ordered, secluded life and back into the messy world around her. But as she learns more about Eve's murder, Melody starts to wonder if perhaps David hadn't betrayed her after all if perhaps the killer is someone else entirely, someone who's still out there, preparing to strike again.

Narrated alternately by Melody and by Eve's lingering ghost, The Life I Left Behind is a taut thriller and an intimate look at two young women bound together in ways neither of them could ever have predicted. Colette McBeth has proven once again that she is a master of suspense.

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES and Features and Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!  It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee and Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Our Feature is Coffee and Characters

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in early 2013, first as a lifestyle blogger for a few months before realizing how much I loved books and switching to being a book blogger.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

The opportunity to interact with authors. It is so great to hear that an author appreciated my review or to be contacted for an ARC book request. It makes me feel a little special and it gives me the opportunity to asks questions and pick their brains.

What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I primarily blog about Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance but I do dabble in sci-fi and YA from time to time.

What is your favorite book(s)?

This is a tough one because I like so many but I recently finished Rachel Bach’s Paradox series which by far are my absolute fav Sci-fi books. I’m also a HUGE Karen Chance fan and love the Cassie Palmer books.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Book blogging has turned me into a writer somehow. I think after reading so much I developed a writers itch and I actually released by debut UF novel Cursed by Fire earlier this year under the name Danielle Annett. It has also allowed me to build some pretty great friendships with other people who love books as much as I do.

Our Feature - Bookworm Book Reviews

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in August of last year. I've loved reading all my life and I tend to devour one book after another. While that's enjoyable, I never took the time to really process the books I read. I would find that, except for the occasional stand out book, I was forgetting what I had read about and even whether I liked certain books or not. So, as a way to force myself to slow down and think, and as a way to get more involved with other bookish people, I decided to start my blog. I'm so glad I did, it's been so fun!

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

There are so many things! I think I would have to say the interaction between bloggers. It's so much fun to read about the books other bloggers have enjoyed and the books they are looking forward to that haven't been released yet. I thought I had a problem with my TBR list before I started blogging, but that was nothing compared to my list now! I also love getting comments and commenting on other bloggers' posts. It's just so nice to be able to talk about books with people. No one in my family reads the same books I do, so it's always enjoyable to talk to someone who does like those books.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I mainly blog about YA books. I didn't really intend for that to happen, I thought I would have more of a mix than that, but the YA books are just so good, I can't stay away. I like a lot of different genres, so I do also have some PNR, NA, and mystery/ suspense thrown in there as well, but it is mostly YA. I try to read what I want to. I don't like feeling pressured to read something that I'm not all that interested in, so all of my books are either bought or have been requested through Netgalley. I feel like blogging stays fun that way. 4. What are your favorite books?

My favorite book of all time is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. I love Gothic novels, and as soon as I read Rebecca, it replaced my former favorite, Jane Eyre. I'm not usually much into the classics, but I really love a good Gothic romance. I just wish they weren't so hard to find.

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I would have to say getting mentioned or direct messaged on twitter by authors has been the best thing. I love getting a tweet back from an author, after I've reviewed their book(s), thanking me and telling me they are happy I enjoyed it. It just makes my day. :-)

Question of the Week: Your house is burning down and you have time to select three books you own to take with you. What three books? - Suggested by Alison Can Read

1.  Dance With the Devil by Sherrilyn Kenyon
2.  Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward
3.  Lover At Last by J.R. Ward
4.  Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
5.  The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Michelle Hodkins

 Excerpt

Eliza sat back on her heels, while Adam merely stared at her as though he had all the time in the world. “Fine,” she said. “Three weeks. I free you and you help me.” She gave him a warning look. “I’ll need your word that you will help me, that this” she waved her hand between them, “isn’t merely a way to trick me into freeing you.”

“This business was your idea, woman,” he said with affront.

“Nevertheless, I’ll need your word.”

The demon’s nostrils flared with a sharp exhalation. “My word then.” Eliza did not look away from him, and he glared back in obvious exasperation. “What now?”

“I’m merely considering if I ought to trust your word,” she said.

A low growl rumbled in his chest as he bared his teeth. “I keep my word, whether I want to or not. My word is my bond. Honor, Miss May. Unlike you, I have it.”

“How dare you —”

“How dare you?” He craned forward, the muscles along his shoulders bunching. “Not so long ago you broke your promise of fealty. To me!”

“Oh, yes, how quick you are to remind me.” Eliza leaned close, grinding her teeth to keep in a shout. “You enjoy being quick, don’t you?”

His thick, dark brows furrowed. “What in the bloody blazes are you talking about?”

“You gave me all of ten seconds to make a choice.” Eliza’s fists ached from clenching them. “And what a choice. I was dead, my body sliced open, my blood on the ground. I would have done anything, anything,” she thumped her fist to her chest, “to get back my life.”

“So that makes it better?” he snapped back in outrage. “Desperation gives you leave to go back on your word?”

“No. That is not what I meant.”

“Then you agree that you bloody well have no honor —”

“You never explained what was involved. You never said I’d be chained to you, like some animal, for the rest of my days,” Eliza shouted. “I was told I would be a GIM. I was ready to serve you in that manner. You knew full well that’s what I believed. If anything, you swindled me!”

All at once, he sagged, though he still eyed her with resentment and distaste. Well, she had a healthy helping of those feelings for him too.

“Tick, tock, Eliza,” she mimicked. “You rushed me because you didn’t want me to think things over.”

When he broke eye contact, his hard jaw twitched.

“I’m correct, aren’t I?” Ire and a red rage surged up within her. “And you have the brass to sit on your high horse and talk of honor. Well let me tell you something, demon. There is little honor in forcing a person’s hand. Or using your power to coerce those weaker than you.”

A black scowl twisted the demon’s face as he glared at some distant point. “Fine. May I continue, or have you more complaints to heap upon my head?”

“Please do continue,” Eliza granted.

His golden gaze flicked back to her. “I want to kiss you.”

“No.” The word burst out of her with force. “Absolutely not.”

Unfazed, Adam shrugged. “Unless you have something to offer in exchange for your freedom, Mellan and Mab will, as you say, merely hunt us down, and you’ll be back to where you started.”

“Then I shall find out what he wants.” Eliza straightened her back. She could do that. She must. Like hell was she going to kiss this demon.

Adam simply gave her a slow, wicked half-smile. “Fortunately for you, lass, I already know what he wants. What they both want. More than controlling you. More than torturing me, even.”

“Then why in blazes haven’t you used it to secure your own freedom?” Eliza blurted out.

“I’m only alive because they cannot break me into revealing where this item might be.” The belligerence burning in his eyes was gone in a blink, replaced by a look of pure cunning. “However, I might be persuaded to help you use the knowledge. All I require is — ”

“Fine,” she snapped, irritation getting the best of her. “I’ll kiss you.”

Silence fell, and Adam stared at her with those eyes of his. Devil’s eyes. Eyes that made a woman forget herself. Heat rose up over her breasts and crawled along the back of her neck. Eliza grasped her skirts, her fingers twitching. She would kiss him. Kiss a man who had brought her nothing but irritation. Maybe she’d bite him to boot.

His chest, gleaming with sweat, rose and fell in a soft pattern. A bead of perspiration broke free from the top of his shoulder and ran down along the firm rise of his pectoral muscles, straight toward the dark nub of his nipple. All this time arguing with him, she’d forgotten his state of undress. Not so now. She’d have to press up against those hard muscles, touch his skin. Eliza wrenched her gaze back to his face, and his sinful lips curled in a knowing smile.

“You know,” he said casually, “I believe I shall pass for the moment. I’d rather it be when you aren’t wearing such a sour face. Kills a bloke’s ardor, you realize.”

Eliza blinked. And then his meaning hit her. “Why you…rutting…cheap, trickster…”

He laughed, a flash of even teeth. “Come now, Eliza, fret not.” He stopped then, that obnoxious smile growing and heating with promise. “I’ll take that kiss soon enough. ”

She rose to her feet in a rustle of skirts. “And I’ll be sure to bite that wicked tongue when you do!”

She marched out of the cell, slamming it behind her, as he began to laugh again. Bastard. She might just leave him here to rot after all. His laughing taunt echoed through the dark. “Now that I know tongues are involved, I’ll be sure to collect.”

Book Information
Title: Vampires Never Cry Wolf
Author: Sara Humphreys
Release Date: March 3, 2015
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Summary

Vampires are nothing but trouble

As far as beautiful vampire Sadie Pemberton is concerned, werewolves shouldn’t be sticking their noses into New York’s supernatural politics. They don’t know jack about running a city — not even that hot-as-sin new vampire - werewolf liaison who’s just arrived in town.

Werewolves are too sexy for their own good

The last thing Killian Bane wanted was to end up in New York City playing nice with vampires. Unfortunately, he’s on a mission, and when he encounters the sexiest, most stubborn female vamp he’s ever met, he’s going to have to turn on a little of that wolfish charm and Sadie’s going to learn a thing or two about what it means to have a wild side.

Excerpt

Sadie forced herself to look Killian in the face, and the instant she did, she knew it was a colossal mistake. His eyes looked like pools of liquid gold, and she could swear he saw straight through to her very soul. A growl rumbled in his chest and Sadie gasped. His eyes flickered and shifted into the glowing amber eyes of his wolf. The sudden and instinctive change was a glaring reminder of who he was - who they both were.

In a remarkably steady voice, Sadie whispered, “Last night should never have happened.”

“The only thing about last night that shouldn’t have happened was the way it ended,” Killian rasped.

Sadie stilled when his large hand cradled her cheek. Despite her best efforts to resist him, her body quivered uncontrollably as he surrounded her in every way a person could be surrounded. When the heat of his palm seared against her skin, a needy moan escaped her lips. Desire curled inside her like smoke, and regardless of the litany of warnings that ran through her head, Sadie’s hands found their way to the front of Killian’s shirt. She grasped the fabric, still warm from the heat of his body, and pulled him closer. Sweet Jesus, the man had a body that looked like it had been hand carved by the gods themselves.

“Is that so?” Sadie pulled his shirt loose from his jeans and slipped her fingers underneath before trailing them along the hard planes of his stomach. Arching one eyebrow, she held his heavy-lidded gaze. “How do you suppose it should have ended?”

“The same way it should end every night from now on,” he growled. Killian slid both hands into her long hair. Sadie shivered when his fingertips grazed her scalp. He pressed his hips against her before slipping his thigh between her legs. Sadie gasped with pleasure as he put pressure on just the right spot, and when a moan escaped her parted lips, a cocky grin emerged on his. Killian tightened his grip on her hair and leaned in so his mouth was just a breath away. “Every single night should end with me naked with you.”

Guest Post: Home Is Wherever I’m With You by M.L. Buchman

Defining home is often a challenge for my characters as I think it is for most people in the real world after they’ve left the “safe” haven of childhood. Even when that childhood has been unsafe, it has at least been known.

In my mid-30s I took an 18-month solo bicycle trip around the world. And one of the questions I asked of other travelers was: “How do you define home?” The most common answer? “Well, me stuff’s at Mum’s, so I guess that’s home.” When asked in turn, I typically replied, “A family of friends and a bed without bedbugs.” Which had the advantage of being both true and funny.

But there was one reply, given by a gruff Danish man in his 60s while we were at a rooming house in central Indonesia together, that was the best and simplest answer I ever found; he pointed at his wife. I envied him that until I finally met my wife and stepdaughter and discovered exactly what he meant.

Romance stories are like that. Home is usually when they find each other.

In my newest book, Bring on the Dusk, Michael and Claudia are the exception to this among all of my characters in the Night Stalkers series. Michael and Claudia are both rooted in place rather than family; among the redwoods and out in the Arizona desert respectively.

One of the things that these two characters did to fascinate me was they both went there for the silence that allowed them deeper connection to themselves. It was the place where they were most authentically themselves, alone in those environments. My favorite scenes in the book are those moments of sharing their origins with each other, because only there are their defenses stripped away until only honesty remains. That is the place where they are each truly “home.”

As they cruise around bakeries in New England trading local delights like Red Velvet Cake and Whoopie Pies for British specialties such as Victoria Sponge and Bakewell Tarts, more secrets than recipes are revealed.

Joseph thought he knew better than to tangle with the beautiful, hot-blooded Lyka. One misstep could send their races straight back to war. But now he has no choice other than to help her. Forced to protect her with his life, Joseph finds himself increasingly drawn to Lyka. As they risk everything in their fight against the demons, he realizes he must convince her to surrender to him completely — otherwise she will never truly be his.

Blood Stitches bcc:

It’s called El Toque de la Luna – The Touch of the Moon. At least that’s how nineteen-year-old Gabby’s older sister, Esperanza, refers to the magical powers she inherited from their Mayan ancestors. Esperanza says women with El Toque weave magic into their knitting, creating tapestries capable of saving – or devastating – the world. Gabby thinks Esperanza is more like touched in the head – until a man dressed like a candy corn arrives at their Seattle home on Halloween. But “Mr. C” is far from sweet.

Soon, Gabby and her almost - more - than - friend, Frank, find themselves spirited away to a demon ball, complete with shape shifters – and on a mission to destroy Esperanza’s tapestries before they cause an apocalyptic disaster.  And before it’s too late to confess their true feelings for each other.
