Manga Review: The Heiress and the Chauffeur, Vol. 1
I've finished "The Heiress and the Chauffeur Vol. 1" by Keiko Ishihara.
At an all-girls school during the Taisho era in Japan, rumors swirl that heiress Sayaka Yoshimura is having a forbidden love affair with her chauffeur, Shinobu Narutaki! Sayaka scoffs at the rumors, but could a romance between master and servant actually be brewing?
Sayaka wears a crimson ribbon that signals she is at the top of her class, and her classmates all revere her. So when Narutaki ignores decorum and breaks school rules to protect Sayaka, will she stand by him or dismiss him as the school demands?
About the Author
Born on April 14, Keiko Ishihara debuted with Hajimari no Hikari in 2008. Her other works include Strange Dragon, which was serialized in LaLa magazine and published by Hakusensha in Japan. Ishihara is from Hyogo Prefecture, and she loves cats.

My Review:
I highly recommend this manga if you like a unconventional love story between two different classes who have a strong tie to each other.
I really enjoyed that Shinobu wasn't your usual stuffy chauffeur instead he loved sweets and ate them when gifted, was popular with the female crowd young and old, was dishiveled with a loose tie and was very devoted to Sayaka. I'm glad that he stood up and protected her against anyone!
I was glad that Sayaka didn't let her lame foot detour her from anything.

Manga Review: Shuriken and Pleats Vol. 2
I've finished "Shuriken and Pleats Vol. 2" by Matsuri Hino.
Product Description
The creator of Vampire Knight returns with a tale about a female ninja in modern Tokyo.
When the master she has sworn to protect is killed, Mikage Kirio, a skilled ninja, travels to Japan to start a new, peaceful life for herself. But as soon as she arrives, she finds herself fighting to protect the life of Mahito Wakashimatsu, a man who is under attack by a band of ninja. From that time on, Mikage is drawn deeper into the machinations of his powerful family.
With her final mission as a ninja fulfilled, Mikage strives to lead the life of a normal high school girl. But the shadows of her former colleagues threaten to mar the peaceful skies. Mikage encounters someone she thought she’d never see again.
About the Author
Matsuri Hino burst onto the manga scene with her title Kono Yume ga Sametara (When This Dream Is Over), which was published in LaLa DX magazine. Hino was a manga artist a mere nine months after she decided to become one. With the success of her popular series Captive Hearts, MeruPuri, and Vampire Knight, Hino has established herself as a major player in the world of shojo manga.

My Review:
It's quite obvious this volume was rushed especially near the ending! I would have loved to see one more volume of this series. The author left an open ending so you need to use your imagination.
For some reason I had a feeling that Mikage's master Mr. Rod wasn't dead but alive and somehow associated with Mahito! We learn why Mr. Rod was targeted and who the traitor is within the clan.
In this volume there were a few potential love interests for Mikage but all she can think about is her Master (lol!)!

I really like the story line and it was a fresh breath of air since it wasn't the norm!
Mikage was a cool heroine and it was awesome that she is a female ninja. She really is a good one and dedicated to her job of taking care of her master.
LOL! I found it quite funny that she fell in love with her master who is twice her age!
Mahito is hilarious because he doesn't listen to Mikage and he would be a great love match!
The artwork is beautifully illustrated and I'm really glad the male characters don't look alike that you couldn't tell them apart!

Manga Review: First Love Monster Vol. 4
I've finished "First Love Monster Vol. 4" by Akira Hiyoshimaru.
Product Description
Though Kaho and Kanade break up due to Kanade's own immaturity, the fifth grader soon realizes just how precious Kaho is to him. Which leads to the completely mature actions of chasing her home, serenading her with piano-accompanied love songs, and even making an emergency marriage proposal?! Surely the age gap between the two means marriage is impossible -- but Kaho and Kanade tentatively exchange vows! Meanwhile, it seems like a new threat is waiting to test the young couple's relationship -- and that busty high school girl and devilish college student are at the center of it!

My Review:
Kanade has broken up with Kaho but he realizes he can't live without her so he follows her home with the help of college student Taga who drives him.
He serenades her with love songs accompanied with pianos and propositions her with a marriage proposal. The tentatively exchange vows even though Taga informs them they are both too young to marry and he could find a better woman.
Taga also accidentally catches Kaho in her underwear after Kanade leaves her door open which embarrasses her and makes her cry. I felt for her in this scene because she is doubting that Kanade sees her as a woman (he's only 10 yrs old and I would be worried if he was noticing her in underwear) and especially when Taga saw her because that is embarrassing since he's in college and he makes fun of her or torments her!
He seems to love to taunt/torment her which he does in a few scenes later in the manga when he comments on her body that it's not too hard to mistake her brother for her since she was so flat he couldn't tell if she was a man or woman and that her body has no significant value.
At the end of the manga Taga also catches her reading Kanade's diary and calls her scum of the earth for reading it. She informs him she knows she is and the reason she did it was because she loved Kanade. Taga calls her annoying and steals a kiss to make her stop talking and to torment her at the same time.
Taga happens to be my favorite character even though he loves to torture/torment Kaho which makes me really think he has the hots for her but won't admit it! This reminds me of the manhwa "Chocolat" and "Very Very Sweet" both by JiSang Shin

Manga Review: Are You Alice Vol. 10
I've finished "Are You Alice Vol. 10" by Ai Ninomiya.
Product Description
When Lewis Carroll took in a little black cat for Alice Liddell, he most likely never imagined that it would be the sole witness to his final throes of madness. So spins the tale of how the Cheshire Cat came to be -- and how he may yet come to be Lewis Carroll's undoing.

My Review:
This manga is told in the Cheshire Cat's point of view and we learn he had at least three owners before Alice.
Lewis is depicted as a crazy old man in this volume and I wasn't impressed in his way of obtaining the little black kitty for Alice. He practically crushed his collar and grabbed him.
We learn Alice is given a younger brother who is the one who actually kills her. We find out she doesn't want to die and cries herself to sleep almost every night!

This manga is hilarious and silly which I highly recommend!
I think it's so cool how Kanade is so tall for a 11 yr. old and Kaho is so short and tiny for a 15 yr. old.
Wow all the fifth graders seem to be tall and act mature at times except for their leader who is as short as Kaho and the coolest one of them all.
Even though Kanade looks older and is good looking he is still a 11 yr. old who plays in sandboxes and goes on secret missions which Kaho gets caught up in his childish schemes.
I hated the part where Taga the University student attacks Kaho because he hates how she was raised and the way she acts and feels.

My Review:
I highly recommend this manga if you like great character development, food and an exciting storyline.
I really liked how Hanayu and Hayato both felt remorse for their deception towards each other and deep down they really liked each other.
I was really glad that both have dreams of owning their own restaurants and that Hanayu finally told her dad what she wanted and didn't back down.

Manga Review: A Certain Magical Index Vol. 1
I've finished "A Certain Magical Index Vol. 1" by Kazuma Kamachi.
Product Description
Touma Kamijou has the worst luck imaginable - Sure he's a citizen of Academy City, a scientific marvel of the modern world where superhuman abilities are artificially cultivated and commonplace, but when it comes to paranormal talent, Kamijou's been classified a Level Zero - a loser, basically. Oh, he does have one trick up his sleeve (literally), but even that's more trouble than it's worth.
When Kamijou encounters a delusional young girl convinced she's a nun and raving about being chased by evil sorcerers, he's eager to send her on her way and get back to failing his studies. Fate, it would seem though, has other ideas, and he suddenly finds himself caught up in a supernatural intrigue with a girl named "Index" at the center!
Science and magic collide in this first volume of one of the most popular light novel series ever penned!
