PNR Review: Savage Awakening: An Alpha Pack Novel [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Savage Awakening" the 2nd book in her Alpha Pack series by J.D. Tyler.

Product Description

A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. But sometime those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for ...

After a mission goes wrong, Aric Savage is taken prisoner. Half-dead and despairing, he makes a stunning discovery: his Pack mate Micah Chase, who was reported dead, is a fellow captive. When the Alpha team goes into full-rescue mode, accompanying them is an absolute stunner with sable hair -- and a spine of solid steel.

LAPD officer and Psy Dreamwalker Rowan Chase has one priority: her brother Micah's recovery. Still, she can't help but be drawn to Aric, the ruggedly handsome wolf shifter who pleasures her as no man ever has -- however fleeting their affair is destined to be. But when Aric's life is endangered, Rowan must ask herself what she's willing to sacrifice in the name of love, for the man fated to be her Bondmate.

My Review:

In the previous book Alric Savage was captured by his evil stepsister and this book opens with him being tortured by her.  Then he is experimented on and then is thrown into a cage where he sees a teammate Micha Chase that everyone thought was killed near death's door.

LAPD officer Rowan Chase works in the gang infested East Side.  After she shoot a rogue gang member and then put on leave she gets a tip where he younger brother Micah might be after being told he was killed six months ago.  She shows up at the location and is greeted by white wolves and a black panther.  When they transform into men she faints away.

Nick the Alpha Pack leader decides to tell Rowan the real truth about them and about her brother Micah.  She doesn't believe it at first but when she finds out they plan on rescuing Micah and Alric she insists on helping. They manage to rescue Micah and Alric but unable to capture Alric's evil stepsister or Dr. Bowman who is the one experimenting on the shifters.

Alric realizes Rowan is his lifemate but feels he doesn't deserve her and not telling his team about his evil stepsister.  Rowan is attracted to Alric but just wants to help her brother heal emotionally and physically.

We also see Kalen struggling with a demon that is trying to control him by destroying his friends and family.  We learn he is related to Sariel - he's his father the King of the Unseelie (he raped Sariel's mother) and is the one who has been attacking the Alpha Pack.

My Review:

We open the book in Afghanistan when an attack left many in Jaxon Tyler's unit dead and those who survived were changed into werewolves. They became the Alpha Pack. Jaxon and his unit of shifters are betrayed by his girlfriend Beryl and he knows he is fortunate to survive while tossing his lover into the fire.

Kira Locke is lab assistant who suspects her boss being involved in something terrible. One night she steals some of his tissue samples but is caught! While on the run she manages to escape the lab.  Guards are able to hunt her down when her car breaks down and she is forced to flee by foot. But luckily Kira is saved by a wolf named Jaxon Law. Soon Kira finds herself part of the Alpha Pack: men with supernatural skills who can also shift into wolves.
I really enjoyed this book because it was well written and very fast paced.  The romance and love scenes were quite steamy!

I thought Kira wasn't acting like a normal human would be when she was first introduced to the pack or Jaxon.  She wasn't afraid of them and just accepted them as werewolves.
