RS Review: Cold Snap (Lucy Kincaid Novels) Mass Market Paperback

I've finished "Cold Snap" the 7th book in her Lucy Kincaid series by Allison Brennan.

The Kincaid Family Christmas Reunion is threatened by murder

ALL ROADS HOME

On his way home to San Diego, P.I. Patrick Kincaid takes a detour through San Francisco to check on the wellbeing of a family friend who’s mysteriously been unreachable. What he doesn’t expect is to be shot at before he can find out why attorney Elle Santana won’t ask the police for help in finding a missing girl. Soon, he’s on the run from both good guys and bad as he and Elle race to find the witness and take down a sweatshop run by a corrupt businessman with a penchant for violence.

LEAD TO DEAD ENDS

Newly sworn FBI Agent Lucy Kincaid can’t remember the last time she spent the holidays with her whole family, but getting home by December 25th is proving to be a bit of a problem. A blizzard shut down the airports and she and her boyfriend Sean Rogan are stuck in a Denver hotel with a dead body. And if that wasn’t all, back in San Diego Colonel Kincaid ends up in the hospital, where an even greater danger awaits a man with a vendetta who will kill anyone who gets in his way. This Christmas, the Kincaid family needs nothing less than a miracle to survive. And time is running out.

Cold Snap is the seventh Lucy Kincaid Novel from New York Times bestselling author Allison Brennan.

My Review:

Cold Snap contains three stories which involves the Kincaid family as they are traveling home for Christmas. For new readers Allison has included the key players in her Forward for your enjoyment.

The first story takes place on December 22nd in San Francisco and Patrick Kincaid takes center action. Glad to finally see Patrick get his own story and to show us what he is capable of.

The second story takes place on December 22nd too but in Denver with Lucy, her boyfriend Sean Rogan, her older brother Dillion and his wife Kate Donovan are stuck in a hotel when a snowstorm strikes. As usual Lucy stumbles upon a body and gets involved in a murder investigation.

The third story takes place December 24th in San Diego where Colonel Kincaid gets shot and ends up in a hospital. Carina Kincaid happens upon a hostage situation when she goes to visit her father.

RS Review: Sudden Death: A Novel of Suspense [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Sudden Death" the 1st book in her FBI series by Allison Brennan.

Product Description

Heroic Justice

When a homeless veteran is found dead in a squalid Sacramento alley, FBI special agent Megan Elliott vows to find the murdered hero’s killer. Her investigation gets complicated fast, for the victim, a former Delta Force soldier, is just one link in a nationwide spree of torture and murder.

Straight off a job rescuing medical missionaries, soldier-for-hire Jack Kincaid returns to his home base in the Texas border town of Hidalgo only to receive the news that one of his closest colleagues – also ex-military – has been brutally murdered. Faced with an inept local police force, Jack takes matters into his own hands.

Now, as part of a national task force to stop the sadistic killings, by-the-book Megan and burn-the-book Jack form a tense alliance, sparked with conflict and temptation. But they struggle against more than passion, for a vicious pair of killers has only just begun a rampage of evil . . . and the primary target is much closer than Megan suspects.

My Review:

FBI special agent Megan Elliot is investigating a serial killings of veterans that are tortured and then killed.  Jack Kincaid is a former veteran who joins forces with Megan when one of his friends and former teammate is killed and becomes one of the victims.

We know who the killers are early in the story (Ethan and Karin).  Ethan was a reporter who was with a group of soldiers on a mission in Afghanistan.  He was a prisoner and tortured for three months before being rescued from the Taliban.  As a result, he has become suicidal and has mental issues.  Karin wants to learn his methods of torture techniques using needles.  Ethan won't teach her so she convinces him to capture and torture the soldiers or personnel connected to the mission when he was captured/tortured.  He believes they abandoned him so when they finally capture their victims Karin watches Ethan place his needles in vital points to cause the most pain.

I didn't really feel the romance between Megan or Jack because there wasn't much of a buildup.  Their interaction was only a few meetups and then working together (I did feel the attraction/lust between them though).  As individuals I liked them and they do work well together (once they trusted each other).

The torture scenes were quite graphic so as a warning if you don't like pain or torture don't read this book!

Hans was out of character in this book because he was angry with Karin but we didn't find out until the end why!

Fear No Evil: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)

I've just finished reading "Fear no Evil" the 3rd book in her Evil series by Allison Brennan.

Product Description

In cyberspace, no one can hear you scream.

Instead of preparing for her high school graduation, Lucy Kincaid is facing a vicious execution. Lured by an online predator, she’s destined to die horribly–live on the Internet–while hundreds of heartless viewers watch and vote on the method of her slaughter. Her family’s only hope rests with Kate Donovan, an FBI agent who took on the same sadistic killer once before . . . and lost. Blamed for another girl’s gruesome murder, Kate’s been fighting to clear her name. But she agrees to join the hunt for Lucy–and reluctantly steps back into her worst nightmare.

With time running out before the bloody webcast airs, Kate teams up with forensic psychiatrist Dillon Kincaid to get inside the head of her twisted quarry, zero in on his chamber of horrors, and reach Lucy before grim history repeats itself and another innocent’s brutal death goes hideously live.

Face the fear. Speak its name. See its face.

My review:

This book is not for the faint at heart because some scenes have rape, brutality and murder.

The villians were quite despictable and cruel and had no care in the world and no remorse, etc.
