The ability to see ghosts is both a blessing and a curse. There are entities who do not seek God’s blessing.
Since early childhood I have walked between the worlds of the living and the dead. I encounter spirits on a regular basis.
A perfect spring weekend in May 2009, my husband and I were in Schenectady, New York for a family function. Our reservation was at a centuries old B&B, dating back to 1775. Known as the Stockade District this historic part of Schenectady was built around the time of the Revolutionary War.
Another typical ghost story you say, everyone expects a few ghosts to hang around such an antique location! A veteran ghost hunter, I wasn’t prepared for the unclean spirits awaiting me
Upon arriving, my husband signed the guestbook. We ascended the carved wood staircase. A brief stop at the second story landing showed just one large guest room on that floor. Tastefully decorated in 18th century furnishings, the room radiated a peculiar amber tinge I instinctively fingered the religious charms on my necklace, continuing to our third floor accommodations. A sharp contrast to the one a floor below, our room exuded a bright sunny aura.
The next morning, I pointed out to the innkeeper the particular room I felt was haunted. My husband now used to my ability, rolled his eyes in a “here we go again,” expression. Redeemed when the proprietor told me others have singled out that same room, she gave her permission to investigate, as we were the only guests for the remainder of the weekend.
Late that evening, we returned from our family function, I slowly entered the off-color suite. Not in the room for more than a few minutes, ‘something’ had me running to the comfort of my own room. Midnight approaching, I crawled under the covers, too scared to return until daylight beckoned.
Armed with a coffee mug and courage, dawn’s first light drew me back to the haunted room.
“He’s stuck. Something is holding him on this plane. They won’t let him cross over.” The vision unfolded before me. The ghost of an 18th century gentleman, early sixties, balding light colored hair, well dressed, very confused. His final years following his wife’s death cared for by a beloved housekeeper who desperately attempts to help him cross over. A malignant energy, some negative entity prevents him from leaving the premises.
A plane to catch, we checked out of the B&B that morning, before I could intercede on my ghost’s behalf!
Susan Kronick’s background is the perfect backdrop leading up to her latest paranormal novel, Sarah, They’re Coming for You. She has a Master of Science in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and a Ph.D. in Paranormal Studies/Psychology from Union Institute and Graduate School, as well as being an adjunct psychology professor at Barry University and Palm Beach State College. A psychic and a medium, she has the gift of seeing the dead since she was a child. She also has taught parapsychology classes through the Palm Beach County School Board, as well as at Palm Beach State College.
