Bio:  Born and raised in Southern California, Melissa started hearing the voices when she was about seven years old, right around the time her father took her to see The Shining in the theater. That movie (and later the book) changed her life and sparked a love of all things scary, spooky and spine-chilling. Having a lifetime love of romance and things that go bump in the night, Melissa found her niche weaving paranormal romance stories. Melissa is a member of Diamond State Romance Authors and Romance Writers of America. She now calls Central Arkansas home where she lives with her husband, two children and a myriad of pets.

Giving Up The Ghost

Blurb:

Kylie McAllister has it all until her world is shattered by the death of her husband, Jackson, in a car accident. After a year of grieving, Kylie uses the proceeds from Jackson’s life insurance to purchase a plantation home on the outskirts of New Orleans to start over with their daughter, Abby. Confirmed bachelor, Ryan LaCroix, has no intentions of settling down with anyone, let alone his best friend’s widow, but somehow Kylie and Abby find their way into his heart.

After discovering an old Ouija board in the attic of her new home, Kylie unwittingly opens a cosmic door to an incubus who pretends to be the dead husband she is so desperately struggling to let go of. She falls deep under his potent spell of delicious sex and malevolent obsession while he gradually drains her life to fortify his own. By the time she realizes he’s an imposter, she is powerless to stop him. Together, with Jackson’s subliminal guidance and the help of a kind voodoo practitioner, Ryan and Kylie wage a fight for her life against the evil entity.

My Review:

In the first few chapters Melissa Ecker spends time introducing you to Jackson and Kylie as couple and then as a family with a young daughter. You get to know them, their family life with their teasing dinners and then suddenly it falls apart. Jackson has his car crash and dies which leaves Kylie devastated.

Then the story jumps ahead about a year while Kylie has healed some but hasn't gotten over Jackson. She has started a new life in a old plantation home and discovers an Ouija board. She accidentally opens a portal which allows an incubus to cross over. He slowly drains Kylie's life force for his own.

By this time she's very confused and trying to understand what is happening to her. She is lucky that Jackson's best friend Ryan is their to help her out and shake some sense into her.

Really happy her family was very supportive of her and they are very close.

The characters and storyline were well written so you are never bored and makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next.

Some scenes were very emotional especially the funeral (make sure you have some tissues handy)!

Thanks KLB Tour for letting me join this tour with a review, greatly appreciated!
