ARC Review: Last Chance Family (Mass Market Paperback)

I've finished "Last Chance Family" the 8th book in her Last Chance series by Hope Ramsay.

Mike Taggart has always been willing to take a gamble. But these stakes are just way too high - there's no way he's prepared to become a legal guardian to his five-year-old niece. His only option is to head from Las Vegas to Last Chance to sort things out as quickly as possible. Problem is, he arrives to find an inconsolable little girl, her sick cat, and a gorgeous veterinarian he can't get out of his mind.

Charlene Polk has two talents: healing sick critters and falling in love with the wrong men. Mike has trouble written all over him, but she can't leave him in the lurch. And the more time she spends with the sexy high roller, the more she sees that this ready-made family is the best stroke of luck they've ever had.

Her extended family includes its share of colorful aunts and uncles, as well as cousins by the dozens, who provide the fodder for the characters you'll find in Last Chance, South Carolina. She's a two-time finalist in the Golden Heart and is married to a good ol' Georgia boy who resembles every single one of her heroes. She lives in Fairfax, Virginia, where you can often find her on the back deck, picking on her thirty-five-year-old Martin guitar.

My Review:

I couldn't really get into this book because I didn't really warm up to Mike (I guess he was a little too rough and gruff for me but I don't blame him - look at the way he was brought up)!

I thought it was hilarious how Charlotte would jump to all the wrong conclusions every time she saw Mike!

I loved Rainbow, Tigger and all those adorable kittens!

My Review:

Savannah White has survived a very painful divorce and she has decided to move to Last Chance a place she visited in her childhood with her 12-year old son Todd.  She finds it as charming as she remembers and hopes her son will enjoy it there.  She hasn't told anyone especially her ex-husband, ex-mother-in-law and her mother because they would protest and fight her for Todd.  She was truthful when she told them she wanted to attend the funeral of her uncle and to check on her Aunt Miriam.  The real reason is she wants to start a brand new life there and to restore The Kismet a movie theatre that she inherited from her uncle.  She is shocked at the deterioration and she didn't expect that her kissing cousin Dash Randall is living with her Aunt.  In their childhood they were sworn rivals for the affections of her grandfather attention.

Of course they start bickering again like in their childhood because Dash keeps trying to keep her son in line with his trash mouth and suggestions on the renovations of the movie theatre.  She becomes mad at herself for his interference and her growing attraction to him.  The more she denies her feelings for him the more she wants him.  As they finally find themselves in reach of getting everything they wanted a fire at The Kissmet and the interference of her ex endanger their happiness.

In the first part of the book Dash is still pining after an unrequited love (I wish he would have moved on and realized sooner that she wasn't interested in him - she just scratched an inch with a bad boy).  Glad that he finally got over his pining and realized that he was falling in love with Savannah.

Contemp Review: Last Chance Beauty Queen [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Last Chance Beauty Queen" the 3rd book in her Last Chance series by Hope Ramsay.

Product Description

Dear Reader,

Gracious me, my beautiful daughter Rocky sure could use my help. I always knew she wasn't much interested in the local boys - but who'd have thought she'd come home with English royalty?

Trouble is, Hugh wants to buy some of our folks' land. We don't want to sell, but Rocky's job depends on her closing the deal. And though Hugh's obviously smitten, I'm not sure he's right for my Rocky. Oh, he's classy and handsome - and you should've seen the way he judged pies and fixed stock cars at our Watermelon Festival! - but what do we know about him, really? I know I sound like a nervous mother hen, but after forty happy years with my Elbert, all I want is to see my little girl find the same.

Well, time for me to quit chattering and get back to Miss Bray's wet set. Always nice talking to you, and remember: the Cut 'n Curl's got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town.

See you real soon,

Ruby Rhodes

Contemp Review: Home At Last Chance [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Home at Last Chance" the 2nd book in her Last Chance series by Hope Ramsay.

Product Description

Dear Reader,

You won't believe what's happened. My son Tulane has come back home! You remember Tulane? He'd set out to find fame and fortune in the big, wide world outside of Last Chance, and I'm mighty proud. But that's not the half of it - Tulane isn't only back, he's brought a young lady with him.

Now Sarah - she does PR for Tulane's stock-car team - she's from Boston, but she's just about the sweetest girl you could meet. I think she's meant to keep Tulane out of trouble after that story in the papers, but he doesn't want to talk about it. Anyhow, the Ladies Auxiliary can't wait to start matchmaking and introduce Sarah to our Reverend Ellis. But mark my words, Sarah is tired of being a good girl. And no one is better at breaking the rules and raising Cain than my son . . .

Listen to me going on and keeping customeres waiting. I best get back to work, but you come round again. The Cut 'n' Curl's got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town.

See you real soon,

Ruby Rhodes

My Review:

Tulane has left Last Chance to become a successful race car driver.  He's in a bad mood because he can't seem to win a race recently and his sponsor Jim Ferguson Racing has painted his car pink with a huge Bunny decal on the hood.  He believes this hurts his masculinity and he has a bad boy reputation to hold.

Sarah is the PR from National Brands who is assigned to Tulane to make sure he arrives at his appointments on time.  She's never had any experience and now she's way over her head.  She's always wanted to be successful but is too nice to climb up the corporate ladder.  She wants to let down her hair and relax and she believes bad boy Tulane is just the man for her.

I really did like the romance between Tulane and Sarah though I thought I was reading a YA book because both characters acted like teenagers.

Loved Tulane and his eccentric family and how they interacted with each other.

Welcome to Last Chance [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Welcome to Last Chance" the 1st book in her Last Chance series by Hope Ramsay.

Product Description

Dear Reader,

Yes, our town is way off the beaten path, but strange, wonderful miracles happen a lot around here.

I've owned the Cut 'n' Curl beauty shop for years, and I've seen folks come for a visit, then stay for a lifetime. Take Jane-that pretty firecracker of a girl who just arrived in town. I would swear she's running from something. She came with only five dollars in her pocket but she's worked real hard to make a fresh start. She's turned my son Clay's life upside down without even realizing it.

And thank goodness for that! Ever since Clay left his country western band, he's played everything too safe. He needs to take a chance on Jane. Besides, the more he tries to keep his distance, the more he'll realize that he and Jane are singing the same tune.

But I should quit ramblin' and go check on Millie's permanent wave. Next time you're in Last Chance, be sure to swing by. We've got hot rollers, free coffee, and the best gossip in town.

See you real soon,

Ruby Rhodes

My Review:

On the run, Mary Smith buys a ticket to Last Chance, Carolina to hide from an ex-boyfriend. She expects a dead quiet town so is surprised to learn a fiddler playing. When Mary and the musician Clay Rhodes meet they .

After a great night at the Peach Blossom Motor Court, Mary checks her sleeping partner's wallet for his name. He assumes she is stealing from him and looks into her belongings to find out that Mary Smith is Wanda Jane Coblentz, a woman in distress. Both are irritated with the each other, but the church's Ladies Auxiliary matchmakers, the communication center (owned by his mama) Cut 'n' Curl Beauty Salon, his brother the cop and angels believe this couple belongs together forever.

I really enjoyed reading about the small town of Last Chance with it's well written characters and their quirks.

I can't wait till "Home at Last Chance" the 2nd book in the series to come out!
