Manga Review: Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 1 [Paperback]

I've finished "Ouran High School Host Club Vol. 1" by Biscoe Hatori.

Product Description

One day, Haruhi, a scholarship student at exclusive Ouran High School, breaks an $80,000 vase that belongs to the 'Host Club', a mysterious campus group consisting of six super-rich (and gorgeous) guys. To pay back the damages, she is forced to work for the club, and it's there that she discovers just how wealthy the boys are and how different they are from everybody else.

My Review:

Haruhi Fujoika is a new scholarship winning student at Ouran High School.  The institution is generally very selective about who they take on, ranking wealth and lineage above all else.  She wears glasses, sloppy clothes and messy hair which isn't the look of a high class person.

Haruhi was trying to find a place to study but instead found a room where six of the beautiful and richest guys in the school were in.  Tamaki Suoh, a second year student and president of an elite club, a host club approaches and tries to recruit Haruhi.  A host club is a club formed by handsome young men to entertain the wealthy and privileged young women at the school with nothing better to do.  In her haste to leave and get away Haruhi breaks a 80,000 vase.  To repay the debt Tamaki makes a deal that Haruhi will entertain 100 guests which later he changes to 1,000.  Haruhi wins over the ladies and they insist that she entertain them the next day.  With her mannish looks and demeanor confuse the members of the Host Club but they believe her natural charm is an asset to the club.  At the end the members all find out Haruhi is actually a girl.

The art was well drawn and the storyline is well developed with great characters.  Tamaki is very flirty and charming.  Haruhi is very down to earth and sensible.

The only thing I didn't like is the twincest thing between the twins.  I tried to read Vol. 2 but couldn't so I have dropped this manga series.  I checked out episode 1 of the anime and decided that I prefer the anime over the manga.

3/5

Ah! I love shojo so much! And I love this manga, especially Tamaki (isn't he adorable?) I read the entire series, and I really wish there were more!

Wow it certinally sounds like this manga is all over the place. Thanks for the review so that I know to stay away from this one. Twincest isn't really my thing.
