Where is Lara Mayhew?

Lara, a congressman's media assistant, suddenly quits her job — and disappears on the way to her Washington, DC, apartment.

Novice FBI agent Meg Murray, a childhood friend of Lara's, gets a message from her that same night, a message that says she's disillusioned and "going home." To Richmond, Virginia. Meg discovers that she never got there. And bodies fitting Lara's description are showing up in nearby rivers. Could she be the victim of a serial killer?

Meg is assigned to work with special agent Matt Bosworth, a hard-nosed pro in the FBI's unit of paranormal investigators — the Krewe of Hunters. They trace the route Meg and Lara took more than once in the past, visiting battlefields and graveyards from Harpers Ferry to Gettysburg. Places where the dead share their secrets with those who can hear. As Meg and Matt pursue the possibility of a serial killer, they find themselves in the middle of a political conspiracy. Is there a connection? If so, has Lara been silenced for good? And whom — besides each other — can they trust?

The Biggest Mistake

The branding iron glows in the moonlight as he presses the searing metal into his victim’s flesh. She must wear the devil’s sign, just like the others. He knows the curse that afflicts them — and he’ll make sure they carry it to their graves.

Is Believing

When investigative reporter Jay “Dance” Danziger is nearly killed in a bomb blast, journalist Jordanna Winters senses a career-making story. Together they can find out who’s responsible. But as their investigation uncovers a string of unsolved murders, each body branded in the same way, Jordanna realizes that Dance isn’t the only one in danger.

You Could Ever Get Away

Small towns can hold big, dark secrets. Deep in Jordanna’s troubled past is the key to a killer’s terrifying mission — to purge the guilty one by one, burning their flesh to free their souls. And her turn is coming, as he prepares to make his mark once more.

CONQUER THE NIGHT

Sir Arryn Graham has come to seek revenge upon Kinsey Darrow for his bloody deeds against his family and the Highland rebels. His heart turned ruthless with revenge, Arryn aims to claim Darrow's bride, Kyra, as his own. But in the tangled silk of her hair and the emerald flash of her eyes, Arryn discovers much more than a pawn.

At the mercy of the cold, fearless knight, Kyra finds herself embracing his stunning passion, even as it marks her as an enemy of the king and places a steep price on her head. Now she is an outcast running for her life, dodging the gallows every step of the way. Arryn is her only hope, as she is his one chance at redemption.

SHE COULD TAKE HIS NAME.

Lady Kathryn Grayson is a gently bred noblewoman with a privileged future ahead of her until her greedy uncle decides to steal her fortune by committing her to an insane asylum. Her only escape is to stow away in the carriage of Lucien Montaine, Marquess of Litchfield, who hears her story with disbelief and suspicion. Yet Kathryn's instincts tell her Lucien is a man of honor -- and her only salvation. Desperate to save herself, she attempts to seduce him and force him into marriage.

BUT WOULD SHE TAKE HIS HEART?

The moment Lucien encounters the ragged, hungry waif with the dignity of a queen, he fights against wanting her. Though captivated by her intellect, strong will, and beauty, he will never love the woman who has deceived him. Though their battle of wills grows stronger every day, desire threatens to overpower his fury. Can this maddening woman who is now his bride melt his heart of steel? Or will her silken touch only strengthen his vow never to fall prey to the dangers of love?

But the beauty of the Lacoumette farm and the joy of the gregarious family are ruined by an unfortunate encounter with the bride's brother, Matt. Struggling with painful memories of his own, Matt makes a drunken spectacle of himself when he tries to make a pass at Ginger, forcing her to flee the scene in embarrassment.

But when Matt shows up at the flower shop determined to make amends, what started out as a humiliating first meeting blossoms into something much deeper than either of them expected. Everyone around them worries that Ginger will end up with a broken heart yet again. About Power Play

THIS KIND OF BUSINESS CAN ONLY BE PERSONAL

Sage Reese lives for her job. More precisely, she lives for her debonair boss, Parker Andersen. Sage handles everything for Parker, even as she fantasizes about the one thing that isn't in her job description: him. But when a high-stakes account crosses the line from shady to deadly, a tough cop starts giving Sage the attention she wishes Parker would.

Detective Dean Ryker couldn't be more different from Parker. While Parker wears expensive suits like a second skin and drives a BMW, Ryker's uniform is leather jackets and jeans and his ride of choice is a Harley. While Parker's sexiness is a reserved, slow burn, Ryker is completely upfront about what-and who - he's after. And Sage tops his list.

Now, as Ryker digs deeper into the dark side of Parker's business, Sage finds herself caught between two men: the one she's always wanted-and the one who makes her feel wanted like never before.

Excerpt

“So…Sage, was it?” he asked.

I eyed him suspiciously, tapping the nameplate that sat on the counter rather than answer him.

“Sage Reese,” he read. “Executive Administrative Assistant.”

“You can read,” I said, raising an eyebrow. “I was worried you’d have trouble with the big words.” If Ryker didn’t like Parker, and it seemed pretty clear he didn’t, chances were I wasn’t going to like him either.

He grinned at me despite my sass and he had an honest-to-God dimple in his cheek. His teeth were perfectly straight and white, his smile drastically altering the hard expression on his face to one of sexy mischief. I momentarily lost my train of thought.

Ryker leaned down like he was going to tell me a secret. The aroma of leather and something musky drifted in the air and I caught myself taking a deep whiff of it.

“I know what you’re doing after work,” he said.

I looked at him in confusion. “What?”

“You’re having dinner with me.”

This was the absolute last thing I expected him to say. I gaped at him.

Ryker reached toward me and my breath caught. His fingers brushed the fabric of the scarf tied around my throat. I was frozen in place, my eyes wide as I looked up at him and my pulse racing. I felt the softest touch of the back of his knuckles against my jaw, then he was reaching past me to snag a couple of peanut M&Ms from the little candy dish on my desk for when I absolutely had to have a bite of chocolate. Tossing them in his mouth, he grinned again, the knowing look in his eyes telling me he knew exactly how he was affecting me.

“Pick you up at six,” he said with a wink, and then he was gone, striding toward the elevators, his jeans and leather jacket utterly out of place in the sea of suits and business attire. But you would have thought he was a model wearing the latest from Armani by the way he walked.

When he got to the elevator, it dinged as though it already knew he was coming. He’d slid his sunglasses back on and he turned before he stepped inside. I was still staring at him and he caught me at it, another knowing grin spreading across his face before he disappeared from my view.

“Wow. Who was that?”

I turned around to see Megan, my friend and fellow secretary. She worked for a group of analysts who reported to Parker.

Sliding her glasses up her nose, she turned to me. “Seriously. Please tell me he was interviewing and starts work tomorrow.”

I laughed. Megan was an incongruous package. She was tiny, barely five foot, with curly blonde hair, a heart-shaped face, and thick glasses — a stereotypical sweet, shy type. She was sweet, that much was true, but she had a biting wit and an irreverent humor that made her a favorite with nearly everyone there at KLP.

“Sorry,” I said with an exaggerated sigh. “He already has a job.”

“As a movie star, right?”

“He’s a detective,” I said with a grin. “And I think I have a date with him tonight.”

“Get out!”

I shrugged. “He asked me out.” I thought for a second. “Actually, he didn’t ask. He just told me I was going to dinner with him.” Which should have ticked me off, but instead I found to be kind of sexy.

Bunny Express Saturday is hosted every Saturday at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews.

I received these in the mail this week.

For Review:

The truth will set you free — if it doesn't kill you first.

After a serious professional stumble, attorney Trevor Mann may have finally hit his stride. He's found happiness with his girlfriend Claire Parker, a beautiful, ambitious journalist always on the hunt for a scoop. But when Claire's newest story leads to a violent confrontation, Trevor's newly peaceful life is shattered as he tries to find out why.

Chasing Claire's leads, Trevor unearths evidence of a shocking secret that — if it actually exists — every government and terrorist organization around the world would do anything to possess. Suddenly it's up to Trevor, along with a teenage genius who gives new meaning to the phrase "too smart for his own good," to make sure that secret doesn't fall into the wrong hands. But Trevor is about to discover that good and evil can look a lot alike, and nothing is ever black and white: not even the truth.

PROTECT THE RICH. SERVE THE FAMOUS. HUNT THE GUILTY.

NYPD Red is the elite, highly trained task force assigned to protect the rich, the famous, and the connected. And Detective Zach Jordan and his partner Kylie MacDonald-the woman who broke his heart at the police academy-are the best of the best, brilliant and tireless investigators who will stop at nothing to deliver justice.

Zach and Kylie's New Year's celebrations are cut short when they're called to the home of billionaire businessman Hunter Alden, Jr. after he makes a grisly discovery in his townhouse garage. When Alden's teenage son goes missing soon afterwards, and his father seems oddly reluctant to find him, Zach and Kylie find themselves in the middle of a chilling conspiracy that threatens everyone in its wake-especially their city's most powerful citizens.

NYPD Red 3 is the next sensational novel in James Patterson's explosive new series, a thriller that goes behind the closed doors of New York high society and into the depths of depravity.

In New York City, attorney Devon Gilmore devoted all her time and energy to fast-track her career. She lost her boyfriend but found herself with a surprise baby on the way. To begin a new life, Devon needs a place to settle down-a place like Cavanaugh Island, where the pace is slow, the weather is fine, and the men are even finer.

From the moment David Sullivan meets Devon, he knows he can't fight the laws of attraction. Whether it's helping fix up the old cottage she just bought on Cherry Lane or working together on a pro bono legal case, he can't help feeling a little protective. But will the most eligible bachelor in town be ready for an instant family? Only if he can convince Devon to put her heart on the line one more time - for all time.

Veterinary technician Carrie Kennersly has become known for offering healthy dog treats at the clinic where she works. So when the owner of the local bakery moves away, Carrie jumps at the chance to buy the business and convert half of it into the Barkery, a shop where she can make and sell her canine delights.

But Myra Ethman, co-owner of another pet product store, hates the new competition. At the Barkery's opening party, she badmouths Carrie's homemade dog biscuits, insisting she'll find a way to shut the place down. When Myra is found dead with a Barkery biscuit beside her, Carrie must prove she didn't do it before she's collared for murder.

Visiting New York to attend a cousin's birthday gala, Nic and Nigel Martini are looking forward to cocktails with old friends and a pampered stay at the Ritz. But when the birthday girl's gold-digging cad of a husband goes missing, the Martini family worries that the social event of the season may turn into a story for the scandal sheets.

Nigel's condescending aunt begs former detective Nic to find sleazy Leo, despite the fact that it would be better for everyone if he just stayed lost. Trailing a "married bachelor" with a penchant for trouble isn't pretty; in fact it's downright deadly. Assisted by Nigel and their newly adopted Bullmastiff, Nic must tangle with her old underworld connections if she hopes to hunt down the dirtiest Martini.

In England in the late 1920s, The Honourable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, on a convalescent trip to the countryside, goes to visit three old school friends in the area. The three, all unmarried, have recently bought a house together. They are a part of the generation of "superfluous women"-- brought up expecting marriage and a family, but left without any prospects after more than 700,000 British men were killed in the Great War.

Daisy and her husband Alec -- Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher, of Scotland Yard -- go for a Sunday lunch with Daisy's friends, where one of the women mentions a wine cellar below their house, which remains curiously locked, no key to be found. Alec offers to pick the lock, but when he opens the door, what greets them is not a cache of wine, but the stench of a long-dead body.

And with that, what was a pleasant Sunday lunch has taken an unexpected turn. Now Daisy's three friends are the most obvious suspects in a murder and her husband Alec is a witness, so he can't officially take over the investigation. So before the local detective, Superintendent Underwood, can officially bring charges against her friends, Daisy is determined to use all her resources (Alec) and skills to solve the mystery behind this perplexing locked-room crime.

"I'd like you children to now fight one another to the death!"

As chaos erupts, Stella, the fourth daughter, loses all reason, and suddenly a whole new Stella, complete with blonde hair and blue dress, comes out to play!

With Hatter's true identity revealed and his name reclaimed, he renews his determination to retrieve Alice -- the real Alice, that is -- and break free of Wonderland. It quickly becomes apparent that he has no qualms about destroying anyone or anything that stands in his way. Now, the ever impetuous "probably" Alice must decide for himself if Hatter is still his ally -- or the ultimate enemy.

When one of the students is attacked after his sins are brought to light, the remaining survivors grow ever more suspicious of each other. In Mr. Void's enigmatic mansion, wishes can be mere whispers away from reality. When Dante, the poet on the second floor, finds a patron for his arts, it seems he may finally get everything he could ever wish for.  But the best things in life -- fortune, love, wishes -- are never given freely. And when Dante finds his last verse, the tale of the beautiful lovers on the third floor begins to unfold. And as desires echo within the halls of Void's mansion, the lovers too will learn that fortune, love, and even whispered wishes come with a price.

This is the most realistic Tarzan make-believe setting that I've ever seen

Gaining inspiration from nature, handsome young (and bug-hating) calligrapher Seishuu Handa is making strides in his creative endeavors. But while anguishing over the individuality of his calligraphy, he receives a phone call from Tokyo that could change everything. The tale of bumbling Sensei, who doesn't even hold back against children, and his warm island neighbors trundles into the last days of summer, which bring with them bittersweet memories!

In this first ever novelization based on the work of the New York Times bestselling manga artist Jun Mochizuki, the elaborate, melancholy, and charming world of PandoraHearts is woven into short stories that peer into the houses of the Four Great Dukedoms and reveal yet more facets of the series’ beloved characters. Making each volume of this series even more special are the manga shorts drawn specially for the novelization by Jun Mochizuki herself!

Sci-fi action, angst, and super-powered teenagers abound in this new series from Reki Kawahara, the acclaimed author of Sword Art Online and Accel World!

Ever since a terrible childhood tragedy, Minoru Utsugi has wished for one thing: solitude. Years later, a bizarre encounter leaves a mysterious artifact in Minoru's body that grants his wish--but that's far from the end of his troubles. Others have been visited and given powers like Minoru's, but their twisted desires are not so benign. When a murderous force threatens the people Minoru holds dear, will his newfound abilities be enough to stand in its way? And can there be a future for someone who craves eternal solitude above all else? The story of the Isolator begins here!

Lynn Cahoon's Dressed To Kill Blog Tour with a Spotlight

I am so excited to have Lynn Cahoon here at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews with a Spotlight.

Thanks Lynn and Pump Up Your Book Promotions for allowing me to join your Dressed To Kill Blog Tour!

Please take it away, Lynn!

Title: Dressed to Kill
Author: Lynn Cahoon
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Format: Kindle

Jill Gardner — owner of Coffee, Books, and More in the tucked-away town of South Cove, California — is not particularly thrilled to be portraying a twenties flapper for the dinner theater murder mystery. Though it is for charity.

Of course everyone is expecting a “dead” body at the dress rehearsal but this one isn’t acting! It turns out the main suspect is the late actor’s conniving girlfriend Sherry who also happens to be the ex-wife of Jill’s main squeeze. Sherry is definitely a master manipulator but is she a killer? Jill may discover the truth only when the curtain comes up on the final act and by then, it may be far too late.

I love happy endings. My stories are all about life in small town America and building the family that you deserve. You know, the people who love you unconditionally – even when you’re less than perfect.

Personal stuff? I’m a seven-year breast cancer survivor. I’m married to my own hero who shaved his shoulder length hair when I lost mine during chemo. I’m the proud mom of a computer engineer (although I don’t know what that means.) And I have four fur babies.

I’m an active member of MORWA, my local RWA chapter.

My debut was THE BULL RIDER’S BROTHER released June 4th, 2012 from Crimson Romance. Cowboys aren’t easy to love—but they sure are easy on the eyes. I bet you’ve felt the same way my heroine Lizzie has, at least once or twice. Since that time, THE BULL RIDER’S MANAGER, came to your favorite digital store. If flying was hell, waiting to fly was purgatory. Both are available in print as well as digital. And the long awaited bull rider story is finally out and available. Check out THE BULL RIDER’S KEEPER!

For those of you who like a little magic in your stories — The Council Series starts with A MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL. A rogue hunter, a clueless witch and a mission to save an unknowing world. The second book, RETURN OF THE FAE, continues Parris and Ty’s adventures, and is a 2014 RONE finalist.

2013 brought MARRIAGE NOT INCLUDED, a organic farmer’s daughter meets corporate seed executive. Set in Idaho, this story takes me home.

2014 sees more big news – e-Kensington released The Tourist Trap Series – with GUIDEBOOK TO MURDER kicking the fun off in April. MISSION TO MURDER arrived July 31st, and a third book, IF THE SHOE KILLS, November 10th. Set in a small coastal California town, I love these who dun it’s with a touch of romance.

Summer of 2015 – DRESSED TO KILL and KILLER RUN will be arriving.

I’ve come a long way from the little girl on the school bus who used to cut out pictures from Teen Beat to illustrate my tales of love and loss. And yet, not so far.

So pull up a chair, pour a cup of coffee, and let’s chat about writing, love, life, and the pesky things that get in the way of our goals and dreams.

I’m glad you found me.

MT Review: Blood Ties: A Novel

I've finished "Blood Ties" by Nicholas Guild.

Product Description

Homicide detective Ellen Ridley of the SFPD is tracking a serial killer terrorizing young women in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ridley is sure she's cornered her most likely suspect: Stephen Tregear, a hacker and code breaker who works for U.S. Naval Intelligence. But Tregear is not the killer - he's the killer's son.

Ridley and Tregear team up to look for Tregear's father, Walter, in an elaborate game of murderous cat and mouse. As the body count rises, Ridley must race against the clock to stop Walter before he kills any more women -- and Tregear must finally confront the father who has been trying to kill him for twenty years. Blood Ties is an elegant and frightening thriller from Nicholas Guild.

ISBN-10: 0765378450
ISBN-13: 978-0765378453

My Review:

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a fast-paced suspenseful read with characters you really connect with and are likeable well except for the villain and a really sick and demented killer.

I really felt bad for Stephen knowing that his dad killed his mom and woman when he was 12 years old.  I would have run away too and how I truly felt how scared he is and the constant look out for his dad knowing he would kill him at any opportunity.

Man Ellen's mom is a real piece of work and she isn't likeable at all!

4/5

Thanks TOR/Forge Books for sending me this book to review, greatly appreciated!

From New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart comes the latest book in her celebrated Chesapeake Diaries, a small-town romance series in the tradition of Barbara Freethy, Susan Mallery, and Robyn Carr.

Jamie Valentine is the wildly successful author of self-help books advocating transparency in every relationship. But when her widowed mother passes away unexpectedly, Jamie discovers her own life has been based on a lie. Angry and deeply betrayed, she sets out to find the truth — which may be in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay. Cutting her most recent book tour short, Jamie books a room at the Inn at Sinclair’s Point, just outside St. Dennis.

The death of Daniel Sinclair’s father forced him to take over the family inn, and his wife’s death left him a single parent of two children, so there’s little room for anything else in his life. His lovely new guest is intriguing, though, and he’s curious about the secret she’s clearly hiding. But in the end, Jamie and Dan could discover the greatest truth of all: that the search for one thing just might lead to the find of a lifetime — if you keep your heart open.
