Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 10) [Hardcover]

I've finished "Dead in the Family" the 10th book in her Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.

Product Description

The #1 New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series- the basis for HBO(r)'s True Blood-continues!

After enduring torture and the loss of loved ones during the brief but deadly Faery War, Sookie Stackhouse is hurt and she's angry. Just about the only bright spot in her life is the love she thinks she feels for vampire Eric Northman. But he's under scrutiny by the new Vampire King because of their relationship. And as the political implications of the Shifters coming out are beginning to be felt, Sookie's connection to the Shreveport pack draws her into the debate. Worst of all, though the door to Faery has been closed, there are still some Fae on the human side-and one of them is angry at Sookie. Very, very angry...

My Review:

When I first started reading this book it didn't seem like a Sookie book (hard to explain)!

SPOILERS:

Sookie is now dating Eric and there is still some issues there!

His sire comes to visit with a new boy-toy Alexi who is the brother of Anatasia of Romolov.  Alexi is a psycho vampire (he loves to kill for the thrill and enjoyment)!

Bill is getting better but still not in tip top shape.  He would feel alot better if he took some blood from his half-sister (Sookie writes a letter to her explaining about Bill).  Seems like the sister is in love with Bill!

Claude (Sookie's fairy cousin) is still around and is living temporarily in her house (having trouble living at his place because it reminds him of his sister Claudine who died in the previous book).  He's decided to protect Sookie because Claudine loved her!

Sookie inherits money from Claudine (she never expected anything and it was more then she thought when she found out)!

Her uncle is not quite right in the head but he decided to protect Sookie!

3/5

This was, for me, probably the weakest book in the series. It seemed rather phoned in, and the pacing was entirely off.

In the last few books, I'm really thinking there's just too much going on between the books, and not enough going on during the book. I really didn't care what happened to Tara, and all the other day to day stuff of Bon Temps. I'd rather know about the vampire politics and other dangers.

But I like anything with Eric.

Guess I have to agree with you PRS and Raven. This story did seem weaker and a bit disjointed. "Phoned in" sounds apt as it was as though she had to get another Sookie book out and didn't put the time into plotting it.
