Thank you Anne for being here today to talk about Fallen Angels, I greatly appreciate it!

Please take it away, Anne!

MY FAVORITE FALLEN ANGELS…

After I turned Bond with Me in to my editor, I discovered something. My sexy rebel hero — my dark fallen angel — was hardly the first of his kind. I’ve always been drawn to bad boys. Nothing, to me, is sexier than a hero who knows his own mind and isn’t afraid to break a few rules on his way to winning his heroine’s heart. Still, what was up with all the dark angels I was encountering on the shelves? Synchronicity, my agent said. We all fell in love with fallen angels. At the same time.

Brends Duranov, the hero of Bond with Me, is an unrepentant bad boy who makes a deliberate choice to rebel — and who fully accepts the consequences of his choice. Brends Duranov is a fallen angel who has picked the Heavens and the Archangel Michael to rebel against. He’s dark and sensual, an agent now for the dark side and a male whose new role in the universe is to seduce humans and convince them to sell their souls. He’s sexy. Predatory. He and his fellow Fallen have nothing to lose — and everything to gain. Mischka Baran and the chance she offers for redemption rocks his world.

While I was waiting for Bond with Me to hit the shelves, I gave myself permission to plunge into the world of dark angels and explore other authors.

J.R. Ward. She’s given us Covet, the first book in her Fallen Angel series, and I’m really looking forward to the second book, Crave, in October. Harley-riding angels. Demon temptresses. The gritty, sexy world of Caldwell, New York. Jim Heron has saved the first of seven souls at a moral crossroads and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Gena Showalter. Darkest Angel is a Lords of the Underworld story — reason enough to fall in love. Reason number two is Lysander. A perfect angel and a devil-spawned harpy? Perfect.

Meljean Brook. Demon Blood is a Guardian romance (yum) and the angellike heroine, Rosalia, is every bit as broken as the vampire leader Deacon. I loved watching the two of them come together and fight their way to their happily-ever-after.

Nalini Singh. The Guild Hunter series gives us kick-ass vampire hunter Elena Deveraux — who not only wins the heart of dangerous archangel Rafael, but herself becomes an angel. The third installment comes in January with Archangel’s Consort.

On my bedside table right now (and, yes, the pile there looks rather too much like the Leaning Tower of Pisa) is Michele Hauf’s Angel Slayer. Other dark angel books on my radar include Skyler White’s And Falling, Fly and S.J. Day’s Eve of Darkness.

Are fallen angels the “new” vampire for romance novels? What’s sexier than a fallen angel who will stop at nothing to redeem his lost soul, to defend Heaven from Hell, or to find the love of his life? Next up for me is Zer’s story. The leader of the Fallen, Zer believes he’s way past redemption — so, when he meets a woman who is a potential soul mate, he believes she must be a match for one of his brothers. He doesn’t deserve her and he’s going to run far and fast from his forbidden attraction to her. Zer’s story, His Dark Bond, will be published by Kensington Brave in early 2012.

So, my question for you is this: do you enjoy stories about fallen angels? What fallen angel stories have you read lately?

Fallen angels… They rule Moscow’s seedy underworld, promising untold pleasure to the females who dare to mate them. That promise – and Brends Duranov’s own raw sexual power – has hopefuls mobbing the velvet rope outside his elite club G2’s.

But Mischka Baran has no intention of hooking up with one of the Fallen. Not even after Brends gives her an unforgettable taste of the sin and seduction he can deliver with those wicked lips. She’s after information, not a stint as some Goblin’s toy of the month. What she doesn’t know is that with a sadistic killer carving up his brethren, Brends is playing for keeps, hunting the one woman whose bloodline can end the mayhem, whose bond can restore his lost wings.

Excerpt

Had his eyes darkened? Surely, he couldn’t smell her arousal. He couldn’t know what she fantasized about at night. He was a fallen angel, not a mind reader.

Then again, fallen angels specialized in bringing fantasies to life.

Self-consciously, Pell shifted on the leather seat, the slick material clinging to her bare skin. This was awkward. She knew Dathan had a certain reputation among her human friends, but she’d never seen this side of him. The charming, nonchalant companion had vanished.

Dathan’s hand, strong and sure, stroked an unfamiliar path across her bare thigh. His eyes didn’t release hers, and that hand — that wicked hand — continued its slow, bold march higher.

They’d been friends for ages, so why was he doing this now? And why was she so interested in letting him? Was this all because she’d told him about her stalker?

His hand nudged her thighs apart. She knew she should resist. But at the same time she didn’t want to. Nothing screwed up a friendship faster than sex, and yet…

His fingers inched to the edge of her thong.

“We’re in the middle of a club, Dathan. Someone will see.” Could he tell how wet she was for him?

He shook his head slowly. “This is mine.”

His fingers pressed against her, rubbing the soaked fabric of her panties against her pussy.

She heard herself whimper his name, the dark, needy whisper from her own mouth shocking her.

“You’re going to bond with me, Pell,” he said in the unfamiliar, hard voice. “And in exchange, I’ll keep you safe.”

From the man on her trail, maybe. She had no doubt he could do that.

But who was going to keep her safe from Dathan?

I like angels and I would really like to like angel books.... but the angel books I've read so far were not that good. In fact a couple of them were downright rubbish I wouldn't have finished reading if they weren't angel books. But that wouldn't discourage me from looking for more angel books... that shows you how crazy an angel reader I am :)

Hi Anne,

Going through my favorite's shelf, I realized that I've read quite a few stories about fallen angels:

Covet by J.R. Ward
Hotter Than Hell by Raine Weaver
Azazel and Asmodeus by Dawn McClure
Her Fallen Angel by Felicity Heaton

I rate all of them highly.
