Luck of the Wolf (Hqn) [Mass Market Paperback]
I've finished "Luck of the Wolf" the 2nd book in her Renier series by Susan Krinard.
Product Description
Branded an outcast by the noble branch of his werewolf clan, Cort Renier had come to San Francisco seeking fortune — and revenge. What he found was a mysterious beauty who could not — or would not —reveal who she truly was. At first glance she seemed vulnerable and afraid, like so many girls caught up in the debauchery of the city's whiskey-soaked gambling dens. But one look into her stunning turquoise eyes and he knew he'd found the winning hand.
Aria di Reinardus had reasons of her own for concealing her identity, but Cort's kisses were more than enough to convince her to go along with his plan to transform her into a missing heiress and return her to her "family." But they were not the only ones with secrets to keep and vengeance in mind, and they were about to discover that some destinies couldn't be outrun….

My Review:
This book had a great plot with deception, backstabbing with a twisted romance tossed in.
Cort Renier left his werewolf clan as an outcast exiled and living for revenge. While in San Francisco, Cort is playing in a high stakes poker game and he wins a female, Aria di Reinardus, who also happens to be a werewolf. Once she is safe with him he finds out she was abducted and is looking for her family. Cort plots to use her for his plans of revenge. He will try to pass Aria off as the lost Reinardus heiress and escort her to her clan in New Orleans. While Aria figures out who he is from the start, Cort is so consumed with vengeance that he doesn't recognize her as a potential love interest until he fights to keep her safe from harm from those who fear she may be royalty and want her dead.
Aria was quite dependent on Cort and is naive and too trusting. Glad she finally took matters in her own hands at the end of the book.
Cort is so intent on his revenge nothing would stop him and I'm glad that he was courtious towards Aria.
Yuri wasn't a very likeable character and some of his actions are quite questionable.
Babette was very nice and helpful toward Aria and taught her how to be a lady. She's actually quite a lady and I don't blame her for her former life.
4/5

Sounds like an interesting book. It's frustrating when girl characters are too dependent, although I like when they prove themselves in the end.
Alison,
I totally agree with you about being frustrated when the heroine is too dependent on the hero!
I'm glad when they prove themselves in the end too!
