RS Review: Run the Risk (Hqn) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished reading "Run the Risk" the 1st book in her Love Under Cover series by Lori Foster.

Product Description

When Detective Logan Riske goes undercover to find Pepper Yates, a potential link to his best friend's unsolved murder, he vows to gain her cooperation by any means necessary. But the elusive beauty is more suspicious — and in far more danger — than he expected. And the last thing Logan needs is to start caring for her ….
Pepper has spent years dodging the corrupt club owner who will stop at nothing to keep her silenced. She can trust no one, not even the handsome new "construction worker" who's moved in next door. The heat between them is undeniable. But will surrendering to passion bring her the safety she so desires—or will her feelings for Logan draw them both into a killer's crosshairs?

My Review:

Detective Logan Risk goes undercover as a construction worker to get close to Sue Meeks (aka Pepper Yates) who he believes has a connection to the unsolved killing of his best friend Jack Carmin.  Sue Meeks appears to be timid, frumpy and shy and seems to be sheltered by her older brother Rowdy Meeks.  We don't know why she is being sheltered or much about her life until later in the story.  Rowdy is hard to find so he decides to stick close to Sue but he never thought he would start having feelings for her.

Logan also has to contend with corruption among his job department and isn't sure who can trust.  When his cover is blown Pepper uses steamy unconventional means to get back at him.  Dash Logan's brother and his partner Reese also have major roles in the relationship and storyline.

The romance between Logan and Pepper was very hot and steamy (it had a slow start) once it got started.  It was funny and humorous when we though Pepper was this meek, mild and shy person and her interactions with Logan during this time.  I was laughing at the way she would blush and stare at him.

4/5
