MT Review: NYPD Red [Hardcover]

I've finished "NYPD Red" by James Patterson.

Product Description

It's the start of Hollywood on Hudson, and New York City is swept up in the glamour. Every night, the red carpet rolls out for movie stars arriving at premieres in limos; the most exclusive restaurants close for private parties for wealthy producers and preeminent directors; and thousands of fans gather with the paparazzi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous and beautiful faces in the world. With this many celebrities in town, special task force NYPD Red is on high alert - and they can't afford to make a single mistake.

Then a world-renowned producer fatally collapses at his power breakfast, and top NYPD Red Detective Zach Jordan is the first one on the scene. Zach works with his beautiful new partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald - who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend - to discover who the murderer might be. But this is only the beginning: the most brutal, public, and horrifyingly spectacular crimes they've ever encountered are about to send all of New York into chaos, putting NYPD Red on the ropes.

Zach and Kylie know there's no way of telling what a killer this deranged will do next. With the whole world watching, they have to find a way to stop a psychopath who has scripted his finale down to the last explosive detail.

My Review:

A special task force is set up to protect the rich and famous movie stars, movie directors and sport stars.  Zach Jordan's partner has been recently injured and he is temporarily assigned Kylie MacDonald a former girlfriend and they both went to the academy together.  Now she is happily married to movie screenwriter.

New York is hosting a "Hollywood on the Hudson" to entice producers, movie stars, screenwriters to come and make their movies there.  One morning a very famous movie producer dies while at a breakfast meeting and the bodies start piling up.

As the two NYPD Red players investigate they realize they are chasing a villain that wants to make the  top story on the front page and to squash "Hollywood on the Hudson".  At the same time Zach as always been in love with Kylie but he's really trying to start a relationship with another women when he realizes Kylie isn't in love with him.

I hate to admit but I had trouble reading this one to the end because Zach seems to be obsessed with Kylie and even at the end he was still in love with her.  Otherwise Zach and Kylie are both very compelling characters and both are good at their jobs.

3/5
