Contemp Review: The Rebel (Hqn) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "The Rebel" the 1st book in her Moorehouse Legacy series by Jessica Bird (aka J.R. Ward).

Product Description

THE FORCE OF THOSE EYES HIT FRANKIE MOOREHOUSE LIKE A GUST OF WIND
But she quickly reminded herself that she had dinner to get ready, the staff of White Caps B&B (such as it was) to motivate. She didn't have the luxury of staring into a stranger's face. Although, jeez, what a face it was. And wasn't it just her luck that the owner of that face, Nate Walker -- with his rebel attitude and distaste for authority -- was the chef her restaurant desperately needed, and he was staying for the summer .... And ... it was a bit too tempting to let this breath of fresh air sweep her off her feet. Because all work and no play had been Frankie's motto for much too long!

My Review:

Frankie Moorehouse is left to take raise her younger brother and sister and to take care of her Grand-Em who has dementia after their parents died ten years ago.  She has turned the family's 6th generation mansion into a Bed and Breakfast with a Restaurant to pay off the bills.  Business hasn't been doing that well and the interior is starting to deteriorate and the chief has just quit that night.  Frankie needs to do something fast or else is forced to sell the family business.

Nate Walker chief extraordinaire's car Lucille has broken down and he's forced to walk to town.  In his search for a phone he walks into Frankie's kitchen and in no time has whipped up a flavorful chicken dish with the help of Frankie's employees to save the night.

You can feel the attraction between Frankie and Nate but she's not going to be taken in by his green eyes and athletic body.  Both of them have been burnt in the past and Frankie doesn't have time for a man in her life.

I didn't really like how Frankie treated Nate - she was always yelling at him and not trusting him in her kitchen.  She's too uptight and stubborn for her own good.

Nate on the other hand is hot, sexy, excellent cook and knows how to treat a woman.  I was wondering why he was attracted to Frankie?

3/5
