Who are some of your favorite authors?

Karin Slaughter: Mo Hayder, Lee Child, Michael Connelly, John Connolly, Lisa Gardner, Tess Gerritsen, Gillian Flynn, Denise Mina, Flannery O’Connor, Charlaine Harris, Kelley Armstrong, Margaret Mitchell … countless others.

What's a typical day like for you?

Karin Slaughter: My days vary depending on what I’m working on.  If I’m writing a book, then I get up and start writing and don’t stop until I either pass out or can’t go on.  It’s a really stupid way to do it, but I’m thirteen books in, so maybe I should just accept this is how it’s going to be!

Have you ever experienced a dangerous situation like in your books?

Karin Slaughter: Good Lord no!  For which I am extremely grateful.  I have used several types of weapons from handguns to automatic weapons, so I would hope that should the need arise, I can defend myself.

What kind of music do you like to listen to?  What are some of your favorite bands/artists?

Karin Slaughter: Heart has always been one of my favorites, and I grew up worshipping Madonna, but I’m more country than rock-n-roll.  Cowboy Junkies, Shelby Lynne, Dixie Chicks, Red Molly, Lucinda Williams — a bunch of women harmonizing is my favorite listening pleasure.  I will admit to rockin’ some Beyonce on the treadmill, though.

Are your characters based on people you know?

Karin Slaughter: I’m sure that bits and pieces of actual people seep into the making of a character, but I never take a whole person and stick everything about them into a book.  That’s kind of cheating!

Just curious will we see Will's ex-wife again?  Will she cause trouble for Sara and Will?

Karin Slaughter: If you know anything about Angie, you know she’ll always cause trouble.  I see a book down the line that tells us a thing or two about her.  For instance, haven’t you ever wondered what she’s up to when she disappears?

What hobbies do you enjoy?

Karin Slaughter: I love playing board games and putting together puzzles.  Also, I like to run on the treadmill (unfortunately, not enough).  And of course reading is my main pleasure.  There’s no greater gift you can give yourself than reading a good story.
