ARC Review: Plain Fear: Forbidden: A Novel [Paperback]

I've finished "Plain Fear: Forbidden" the 2nd book in her Plain Fear Amish series by Leanna Ellis.

Product Description

How Long Must We Pay for the Sins of Our Past?

She blames herself for her husband's death. But for Rachel Schmidt Nussbaum, redemption may only lie in the ultimate sacrifice.

When a stranger arrives claiming only she can save him, Rachel's impulsive instincts lead her on a perilous journey, one that leads her to a battle that will decide both the fate of her soul and the life of her unborn child.

A far – from – ordinary story of love and desperation, sin and sacrifice, Amish faith and vampire lore, Plain Fear: Forbidden is an imaginative thrill ride that's like nothing you've ever read before.

About the Author

My Review:

In Pennsylvania, Rachel Schmidt Nussbaum feels guilty about her husband's Josef's death in a road accident. Her family and community are there for her but she belives God is punishing her for her past wild sins.

She is over 7 months pregnant and when a stranger she knows tells her she can save Josef and him she decides to travel with him.  She feels remorseful, confused and depressed and is willing to do anything for her husband.  She doesn't realize the danger she is putting herself and her unborn child in until it's too late and who her savior would be.

I liked how we see more of Roc's characterization and how the death of his wife has influenced his determination to kill all the vampires.  It was sad to see his depression after the death of a fellow vampire hunter but it was interesting to see his determination to destroy Akiva (aka Jacob).

4/5
