Manga Review: Naruto, Vol. 55 (Naruto (Graphic Novels)) [Paperback]

 Manga Review

I've finished "Naruto Vol. 55" by Masashi Kishimoto.

Product Description

Reads R to L (Japanese Style), for audiences rated teen.

Naruto is a young shinobi with an incorrigible knack for mischief. He's got a wild sense of humor, but Naruto is completely serious about his mission to be the world's greatest ninja!

The Great War Begins

Evil masterminds Kabuto and Madara instigate a skirmish with Naruto and friends on Turtle Island. The Allied Shinobi Forces prepare to attack, but are they ready for Kabuto's horde of reanimated dead ninja?!

About the Author

Author/artist Masashi Kishimoto was born in 1974 in rural Okayama Prefecture, Japan. After spending time in art college, he won the Hop Step Award for new manga artists with his manga Karakuri (Mechanism). Kishimoto decided to base his next story on traditional Japanese culture. His first version of Naruto, drawn in 1997, was a one-shot story about fox spirits; his final version, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, quickly became the most popular ninja manga in Japan.

My Review:

In this volume Kabuto and Madara have declared war against Naruto and his allies.  Kabuto has animated dead ninjas to fight on their team.  We get to see some favorite characters come back to life and they know they are being controlled by someone and they have kept their emotions and personalities.

Meanwhile Killer Bee is teaching Naruto how to use the power of Nine-Tails while his mentor Kakashi Hatake has formed a group to take on the enemies as he tries to figure out a strategy to stop this army of undead ninjas.

It was great to see some great characters come back to life but they are fighting on the wrong team though (Zabuza, Haku and Itachi).  It was interesting that they retain their emotions and personalities and know they are being forced to fight.

I really enjoyed the scenes between Kakashi, Zabuza and Haku (it was just like their last fight near the beginning of the manga) and they ask Kakashi to kill them for real this time since they died as human last time.  It was a really touching scene how Kakashi and his team manage to bind Zabuza and Haku without really hurting them.

The scenes between Killer Bee teaching Naruto how to stack rocks gently using his Nine-Tail powers were interesting.  Of course at first Naruto is a little too forceful but he finally got it.

4/5

I've never gotten into Naruto even though I know it's huge. I've faded in and out of so I know the story. Just never quite totally sucked me in

I admit that I'm a little lost with your review, since I don't know much about the series. But it does sound like a fun action series.
