PNR Review: Alpha Instinct: A Moon Shifter Novel [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Alpha Instinct" the 1st book in her Moon Shifter series by Katie Reus.

Product Description

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the few remaining lupine shifters in her pack. But with no pack males, they're vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection as the Alpha male, it's almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor's future-but the existence of the entire pack.

My Review:

Ana Cordova is the Alpha of the Cordova clan after all the males and pregnant females are wiped out by being poisoned mysteriously.  Though her clan respects her and having no male Alpha Ana knows she won't be able to hold the clan together for very long and being vulnerable to aggressive Alpha males.  Ana's neighbor fellow werewolf Taggart is aggressively making his intentions clear that he wants her in his bed, her clan and all her land.

Then Connor Armstrong walks back into her life after saving her from a dangerous situation with Taggart.  He offers her a life-long protection if she would be his mate in mind, body and soul. She has mixed feelings because he walked away from her fifty-years ago without a word and broke her heart.  She finally agrees when more bodies start piling up and humans start being involved.

Ana was a tough, confident, compassionate, caring and loving towards her family and clan members who only wants the best for them.  She's afraid to fall in love with Connor again after what he did to her fifty years ago but the attraction between them is still there.  She finally gives in when she realizes that Connor is there for the long haul, cares for her family and will never leave her again.

Connor is a total Alpha male who is protective, demanding and caring of Ana and only wanted the best for her and her clan.  He is a great leader and I love his strong bond to his younger brother Liam.

I really enjoyed the sub-plot with Liam and December a human whom he realizes is his mate.  His seductive romancing of December is hindered by her protective older brother and by December herself who is wary of shapeshifters.  I can't wait to read Liam and December's book Primal Possession to be out in September.

Taggart was a delusional and very sick villain.

4/5

Thanks Katie and Penguin US for sending me this book to review, greatly appreciated!
