About Cynthia:

Award-winning author Cynthia Eden writes paranormal romances and romantic suspense novels. She is currently very busy writing her stories for Grand Central Publishing and Kensington Brava.

She has always wanted to write (don’t most authors say that?), and particularly enjoys creating stories about monsters–vampires, werewolves, and even the real-life monsters that populate her romantic suspense stories.

(Back in the day…) Cynthia graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Alabama where she studied Sociology (because people interest her) and Communication (because she likes to write about said people). Cynthia has worked as a college admissions counselor, a teacher, and as an editor. But now, Cynthia is thrilled to be spending her days making up stories.

Branching Out — Time for Some Romantic Suspense

I love vampires. I love demons. Give me a supernatural creature, and you’ve made me a happy woman. Since I love the paranormal so much, it was only natural that I started to write paranormal books (after all, we’re talking a life-long love!). And for the last few years, I’ve had a fabulous time writing about my shifters, demons, and vampires (oh, my!). In fact, I’m still having a great time writing about them—and I hope to keep writing my paranormals for a very long time to come.

However, I have a second love. A love that slipped into my paranormal stories and kept fighting for my attention. You see…I have a weakness for suspense. Because not only do I like those paranormal creatures that go bump in the night, but I also like danger, intrigue, and the rush of adrenaline that comes from fear.

Suspense. Sweet suspense.

So about a year and a half ago, I decided to let my suspense side come out and play. I gave into the urge that had teased me for a while, and I began writing a story about a different kind of monster. Not a paranormal being; instead, a human who was evil, twisted—a serial killer. At first, it was a bit of an adjustment. I told my friends that I was going through paranormal withdrawal. But as I got deeper into the story, the suspense hooked me.

I began to love my FBI agents just as much as my shifters. And fear…well, fear became a necessary component of my story. After all, in DEADLY FEAR, my killer is turning his victims’ worst fears into reality. As I wrote, I discovered that people have many, many fears. And I learned that monsters don’t just have to be supernatural beings. Some monsters can be normal humans—just like the guy next door.

Thanks for reading my post. I’d love to know your take on “monsters”—do you enjoy paranormal characters? Do real-life monsters (those humans who hide their dark sides) scare you more than the creatures of the night?

TWO BRILLIANT AGENTS

FBI Special Agent Monica Davenport has made a career out of profiling serial killers. But getting inside the twisted minds of the cruel and the sadistic has taken its toll: She’s walled herself off from the world. Yet Monica can’t ignore fellow agent Luke Dante, the only man who ever broke through her defenses.

ONE DREAM TEAM

Luke has the unique ability to put victims at ease…professionally, he and Monica made a perfect team. Now they’re reunited to catch a murderer who uses his victims’ deepest, darkest fears for sport - but their investigative skills aren’t enough. Congrats on the new release, Cynthia. I think real life monsters are much scarier. When I see something horrible on the news I wonder how a person can be so evil to harm a fellow human being.

Hi, Jane! It's the real-life monsters that give me the worst nightmares. And I wonder the same thing you do!

elaing, I think there is more of a safety sense with the paranormals--you generally know a vampire won't appear and drain you dry. But with a serial killer...

It's the humans with dark sides that really scare me. I think I could be a friend with a were or a vampire, but those humans are something else again!

Great post and real life monsters are scarier than the secret paranormal ones. It's scary because you know they're out there.

Great post!

Real life monsters scare me more as it makes you realize the capacity humans have for evil. Paranormal monsters are a safety net, as bad as they can get you know its not real.
