PNR Review: Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Rogue Rider" the 4th book in her Lords of Deliverance series by Larissa Ione.

Product Description

They're here.

They ride.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride.

ROGUE RIDER

Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues - and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous.

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

My Review:

Jillian Cardiff has moved to a remote mountain town after a horrific demon attack that she almost died from.  Instead she rescues and falls for a handsome, charming, funny, witty and protective man who doesn't remember who he is except for his name.  He is everything she is looking for in a man but she is wary of starting a relationship after being burned.

Reseph doesn't remember how he appeared in Jillian's life but he knows deep down that he wants to stay in it.  When her neighbors are killed by demons and demon hunters come calling he believes he has put Jillian in danger.  Then it is revealed that Reseph is the horseman Pestilence who is responsible for ravaging the world him and Jillian must face their greatest challenge together.

I really like Reseph because he's a sexy bad boy who is a player but he stops his ways when he meets Jillian.  He only wants her and their love scenes were very hot, erotic and steamy especially the one in the stables.  He's very protective of her and you can see the love he has for his brothers, sister and their spouses and family.

When did you start blogging?

I started really blogging a little earlier this year in May after my father passed. Seeing as how I didn’t feel like I had anyone to talk to, I thought prose & poetry could help with that. I’ve had a book tumblr for a while and it just didn’t feel like it was enough for what I wanted to venture into. I thought I wanted to make a bigger splash in professionalism and seriousness by starting a real blog, in which people cared just a little bit more about what I had to say.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Feeling that I have some sort of purpose. It feels nice to be acknowledged and have my opinion on something matter, even if for a second. It’s also extremely satisfying to get to know the other bloggers out there who share my interests in books and writing. Before, I was led to believe by others that my constant love of reading was a waste. People can be funny in that way.

What is your favorite book(s)?

This is a loaded question and you know it, haha! WELL, as my answer for this week’s question would show, one of my favorite series is the Charley Davidson series, which I just discovered this year. I also love some of the Harry Potter books, Agatha Christie Poirot mysteries, the Song of Ice and Fire series and a lot of Dickens’, Hemingway’s and Steinbeck’s works. If I had to simplify it further, I’d have to say in non-fiction And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and in fiction Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt are my favorite books.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Well, I suppose the best thing so far has just been my state of mind is more stable. Although I’m still unemployed (and seriously still looking) reading, writing and blogging seem to be a great way of uplifting myself, even if my family think it’s a waste of time. It keeps my mind occupied and helps maintain my creativity, and for that I am truly grateful.

Our Feature -Oh! Paper Pages

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in November 2011. I recently celebrated my first year of book blogging by purchasing a Kindle!

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Interacting with other bloggers is my favorite aspect of book blogging. I have made several friends as a result of a shared passion of books. Ashley from Ashley Loves Books is my favorite book blogging buddy. I also enjoy receiving recommendations about books that I probably would not have noticed on my own. Joining Twitter and following my favorite book bloggers and publishers was also a great decision. Authors and publishers tweet the most interesting comments and articles. I definitely recommend that new bloggers check out Twitter and start following!

3. What is your favorite book(s)?

I love the Harry Potter series and Pride and Prejudice. I reread those books most often and could live happily on a diet of Potter and Darcy. My favorite books of 2012 are I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga and Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas.

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I went to ALA in Anaheim, which was an incredible experience. To be surrounded by people who are just as in love with words and characters as I am made me feel happy.

Q: Activity! Who is your to-die-for book crush? What do you think they look like? Add an image to make us all happy.

I happen to have four at the moment and they are:

1.  Zarek from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series (Dance with the Devil)
2.  Zsadist from J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series (Lover Awakened)
3.  Noah Shaw from Michelle Hodkin's Mara Dryer series
4.  Jackson Devereux (aka Jack Daniels) from Kresley Cole's Arcana Chronicles series

I've finished "Dark Currents" the 1st book in her new series Agent of Hel series by Jacqueline Carey.

My Review:

Daisy Johanssen is the daughter of an incubus father and human mother who lives in the town of Pemkowet.  This is home to many diverse population and many different magical species.  She is also Hel's Enforcer and liaison for the Pemkowet Police Department.

When she finds proof that a local boy's death involves eldritch involvement she is paired up with her childhood crush and closet werewolf Officer Cody Fairfax.

Officer Cody Fairfax is keeps his werewolf nature a secret and he's a ladies man.  He wasn't very thrilled to be working with Daisy at first but as they investigate she starts growing on him and he starts to have feelings for her too.

During their investigation Daisy meets Stefan Ludovic the new head ghoul (feeds on human emotions) who is very powerful and quite secretive himself.  He admits to Daisy that he wants her for himself and will wait until she is ready for what is between them.

This book was quite dark in nature but had some light moments to ease the tension.  The mystery was quite intriguing and the main theme had to do with sexual abuse which is a very important aspect.

Laurence MacNaughton Guest Post

What Robert B. Parker Can Teach Us About Deadly Love Stories

By Laurence MacNaughton

"Most of my books are about love, in part," Robert B. Parker once said in an interview. "Very few of my books are about who stole the Maltese Falcon."

Strong words from one of top mystery authors of all time. He wrote more than 60 books in his Grand Master award-winning career. In the process, he created Spenser, Jesse Stone, Sunny Randall and so many other tough-talking characters that it's hard to believe he ever once wrote about love.

Yet he did. If you look at the core of his stories, you'll notice that Robert B. Parker didn't write about crimes, he wrote about relationships. Spenser and Hawke. Everett and Virgil. Jesse and Sunny. Whether it was a romantic relationship or not, it was a one-on-one connection that defined the story and made everything else matter.

At first glance, my debut novel, Conspiracy of Angels, doesn't seem to have anything to do with love either. It has plenty of car chases, along with a global conspiracy and a purely terrifying adversary. Bullets fly. Stuff blows up. Yet over and over, I find that readers zero in not so much on the action, but on the relationships. The connections between characters.

In my book, there's an ex-con named Mitch who has lost his daughter, and a dangerous young woman named Geneva who's lost her parents. Mitch and Geneva are both wounded. Their connections have been torn away from them.

And even though the two of them begin the story faced off at gunpoint, it's their human connection that eventually heals them. One reviewer wrote: "Her bond with Mitch was my favorite part of the book. It wasn't romantic. It was something more."

If we're lucky, we've felt that bond at some point in our own lives. In a sense, our connection to others is what makes us real. We define ourselves by our relationships: parent, child, boss, worker, team member, friend, lover.

For some reason, maybe because of poor choices on my part, I've been friends with a lot of ex-cons. More than a few drug addicts. A handful of outlaw bikers.

But when you know someone, when you have a connection to them, you care about them. Even if you don't agree with their choices. Even if they break your heart. You still want to find out what happens to them. It's a basic need, to find out how the story ends.

That, I think, is why so many people come back to Robert B. Parker's books. To find out how the relationships grow and change. To find out if "The End" is really the end, or the start of something new.

If you'd like to find out more about Mitch and Geneva, come visit my author page at http://LaurenceMacNaughton.com and get the first chunk of Conspiracy of Angels for free. I think you'll find that in between the fights, chases and escapes, my book is about love, too.

Running Wild: The Men from Battle Ridge [Mass Market Paperback]

In book 1 of this steamy new contemporary Western romance series by two blockbuster authors, a cowboy and a woman on the run take a stand and fight for love.

Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that she’s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen.

Zeke doesn’t challenge Carlin’s terms: cash, dead bolts, and no questions. It is easy to see that she’s a woman in trouble. Problem is, he’s so blindsided by his attraction to her he can’t think straight. Zeke tries to stay all business, no complications — but that game plan is sabotaged the second Carlin gets under his skin. And when her terrifying past follows her to the ranch, Carlin faces a heartbreaking choice: run away from the man she loves, or put him in the crosshairs of a madman.

Killer Librarian [Mass Market Paperback]

FILE “M” FOR MURDER . . . .

Champion of the mystery section at a small-town Minnesota library, Karen Nash is about to embark on a dream trip to London — a literary tour inspired by every murderous intrigue, wily suspect, and ingenious crime found in the pages of the British mysteries that she devours. But she’s clueless why the love of her mid-life, Dave, would dump her hours before takeoff — until she spies him at the airport with a young honey on his arm! She decides the best revenge (for now) is to get on that plane anyway . . . and entertain schemes for Dave’s untimely demise while crossing the pond.
After touching ground in the hallowed homeland of Christie, Sayers, and Peters, she checks into a cozy B & B run by charming bibliophile Caldwell Perkins. Soon she’s spilling tears in her pint at the corner pub, sharing her heartbreak saga with a stranger. That night, a B & B guest drops out of circulation — permanently. And when Dave and his cutie turn up in London, Karen realizes they are an assassin’s target. With the meticulous attention to detail that makes her a killer librarian, Karen sleuths her way through her own real-life mystery — in which library science meets the art of murder.

Manga Review: A Devil and Her Love Song, Vol. 5 [Paperback]

I've finished "The Devil and Her Love Song Vol. 5" by Moyoshi Tomori.
Product Description

Reads R to L (Japanese Style).

Meet Maria Kawai — she’s gorgeous and whip-smart, a girl who seems to have it all. But when she unleashes her sharp tongue, it’s no wonder some consider her to be the very devil! Maria’s difficult ways even get her kicked out of an elite school, but this particular fall may actually turn out to be her saving grace.

Maria finds herself liking her classmate Shin, but she can’t seem to tell him how she feels! Meanwhile, her old friend Anna comes back into her life with unexpected news. Is Anna really interested in rekindling their friendship or does she have an ulterior motive?

My Review:

Now the singing competition is finally over everyone is worried about failing their upcoming tests.  Maria gets good grades so she tutors Yusuke and Tomoyo.  Shin decides to practice piano by signing up for piano lessons at St. Katria Maria's old school.  While there he meets Anna Mouri, Maria's best friend there and she takes a liking to Shin.  Well they start off on the wrong foot at first.

Maria decides to wants to meet Anna again and when they meet face to face once again there isn't a fight.  Instead Anna sticks close to Maria and they act like nothing happened between them and they have lunch everyday with the rest of the gang.

Maria realizes Anna is being two-faced after they have a long talk.  She notices that Anna likes Shin but she warns her that she won't let her have him without a fight.

I really want Maria and Shin to get together because he gets and understands how she feels.  He doesn't want her to change her personality and has admitted he likes her.  Maria finally admits to herself she likes Shin but is confused and doesn't know how to act or tell him her feelings.  I really felt for her when she blundered that she loved him and she ran away in tears.

ARC Review: Stalked (Lucy Kincaid Novels) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Stalked" the book in her Lucy Kincaid series by Allison Brennan.

Product Description

Stalked

Allison Brennan Lucy Kincaid returns — as a killer’s obsession.

IN THE GAME OF CRIME

A new trainee at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Lucy Kincaid has already seen more than her share of murder and mayhem. Still reeling from the sex-crime case that sealed her reputation, she’s found a true friend and mentor in Agent Tony Presidio. No matter what goes down at the Bureau, Tony’s got her back — until he’s called to New York to help investigate the murder of a reporter with ties to Lucy.

NEVER PLAY THE VICTIM

But the reporter may not be the first victim of a patient killer with a penchant for revenge, and she’s definitely not the last. Connections between closed cases, a missing person, and Tony himself lead Lucy to fear for those she cares for most. When the FBI is rocked by the death of one of their own, Lucy seeks the help of her boyfriend, private investigator Sean Rogan, to help put together the puzzle — and puts her career in jeopardy. But the harder she pushes for answers, the clearer the truth becomes: There’s a killer inside Quantico. Watching her every move. Waiting to kill again …

ISBN-13: 978-1250005960

My Review:

Lucy Kincaid is finally a new FBI trainee at FBI Academy in Quantico.  If you have been reading from the first book her first application was denied but she on her second one she is admitted.  She is enjoying her training class but she knows she is being watched because of her past (kidnapped and then her rape and torture broadcasted on the web).  One of her trainers obviously doesn't like her for some reason only her sister-in-law Kate knows.

A reporter she has ties too is murdered so the FBI and police ask Lucy for her help and assistance in their investigation.  The reporter Rosemary Weber wrote a book about a case where twelve-year-old Rachel is kidnapped from her bedroom, raped and killed.  Her parents lie to the police since they were hosting a swingers party.  The case is sensationalized as a true-crime' bestseller and the family disintegrates soon after.

Now the author and anyone associated with the case are being killed off in inventive ways.  Sean assists Lucy by trying to keep her safe and to try to locate original victim's younger brother Peter.

This was a very fast paced well written compelling read with psychotic killers.  We see Lucy and Seth's relationship has deepen and she has become a confident, smart, intuitive and brave young women.

We see the return of beloved characters, FBI profiler Hans Vigo, FBI agents Noah Armstrong and Suzanne Madeaux, Assistant Director Rick Stockton, Kate Donovan and brothers Dillon and Patrick.
