I am so excited to host Fiona Dodwell in a guest post here at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews.
Fiona is currently touring to promote her new book The Banishing which explores the world of demonic possession, spiritual oppression and domestic abuse.
Thanks so much Bewitching Blog Tours for connecting us on this blog tour!
Please take it away Fiona!
Fiona Dodwell lives in the UK with her husband. She currently works in mental health, and has studied psychology, drama, films studies and theology. Her love of dark fiction began when she found a battered and torn copy of Stephen King's Pet Cemetery under her brother's bed as a child. Her first novel, The Banishing, was released in March 2011, and her next novel, Obsessed is due for release this September.
Something in the Blood
There must be something you've always wanted to do. Something you felt you were born for. What is it?
Each of us, I believe, has a dream of doing or accomplishing something. That one thing you just have to do before you die. For me, that dream was books - reading them and writing them. As a child I was all about books, particularly horror. I enjoyed anything that could unsettle or frighten me. Strange for a child, I think, remembering how I used to sneak Stephen King books from my brother's bedroom when I should have been reading children's literature. But it was almost something that I was born with, something in the blood, so to speak.
Growing up, I watched, read and breathed horror. I sat before the television set, awe-struck at The Exorcist and other classic films, and read stories by master horror authors such as Koontz, Poe and King. I knew instinctively that this was what I wanted to do: scare people. And I mean that in the nicest possible way!
When people ask me why I write horror, I find it almost impossible to answer. It seems that horror was a part of my life from the earliest time, and I can say honestly that it's simply not a choice: it's just who I am, it's just what comes to me when I sit down to write. I don't think I can question why I write horror anymore than I can ask a singer why he sings. It's natural, it's just what happens.
My new novel, The Banishing, which has just been released with publisher Damnation Books, explores horror of a different kind. Evil – demonic or human? - that creeps into our everyday life and starts to take over. I had a seed of an idea about demons. I wondered this: if demons are real, then can they worm their way into our lives and make us act against our will, our nature? From that The Banishing arrived. It's a story about Melissa, who is married to a wonderful, dedicated man. But he starts acting strangely. Then displaying a temper. Then he is abusive. Is this his real nature coming through – or are their realms of angels and demons, each reaching out to us in our everyday lives to influence the choices we make?
I hope that, beneath a good story and a creepy read, that The Banishing may raise some moral and ethical questions to the reader. If you enjoy it, then I've accomplished the one thing I dreamt of since I was a child – writing books and having people enjoy them. It's all
I've wanted, it's in my blood. What's in yours?

When Melissa first notices the change in her husband – subtle at first – she thinks it may be the stress of moving into their new home. Or working long hours. But soon he turns into something far darker, far more sinister.
Who or what is the dark shadow living beneath her husband? What is haunting him?
Melissa must quickly find the answer to these questions, because Mark is changing, and fast. Soon her fight will be for her life, as well as for her marriage.
The Banishing is a dark, disturbing novel exploring the world of demonic possession, spiritual oppression and domestic abuse.
