PNR Review: The Darkness Beyond: A Paladin Novel [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "The Darkness Beyond" the 8th book in her Paladin series by Alexis Morgan.

Product Description

An online game of cat and mouse leads a Paladin warrior on a deadly rescue mission to claim the irresistible lover who should be his greatest enemy.

D.J. Clayborne has finally met his match. After weeks of playing cyber tag, a mysterious hacker bests D.J. at his own game. His nemesis downloads a top-secret history of the Paladins, forcing him to go on the hunt. The trail leads D.J. straight to Regina Morrison, a woman who is as sexy as she is talented in the cyber world.  Reggie has been working around the clock to stop a legendary computer hacker from accessing her clients’ files, but the last thing she expects is to have D.J. show up at her door. Or that he’s even hotter than his evasive avatar. Soon they’re flirting with a dangerous line between duty and desire.  Now, Reggie’s investigation gets her kidnapped by the Others and forced across the hostile energy barrier into an alien world. And it’s up to D.J. to track down the captivating woman whose ability to break through his firewalls is also breaking through to his warrior’s heart.

About the Author

Originally from St. Louis, Alexis Morgan and her husband live in a small town near Seattle. An avid reader, she grew up reading gothic romances and westerns and developed a love for flawed heroes who hold to their own code of honor -- whether fighting rustlers at gunpoint, or standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their fellow warriors, swords at the ready.

My Review:

After weeks of playing cyberspace tag a mysterious hacker has beaten D.J. at his own game.  The hacker has downloaded a top secret file on the Paladins.  He goes on the hunt and it leads him to Regina Morrison who's job is to crack down on hackers from accessing her client's files.  She didn't expect D.J. to land on her doorstep or to even look hotter than his avatar.  As her investigation deepens Regina is kidnapped and forced to cross a barrier into alien territory.  D.J. must rescue her with the help of Regina's best friend Cody which is tearing his heart apart.

At work Regina has to deal with a sexually harassing co-worker who she puts in his place by hurting him where it hurts.  Her boss sticks up for her but won't fire him because he's good at his job.  Cody works with Regina and he's her best friend.  Regina is a strong and take charge women who won't take any flak from any man or women.  Really enjoy her bantering with D.J. and I thought it was quite funny and humorous.  She can be busy at times.

D.J. is your typical alpha male who wants to protect and take care of his woman.  He found it a surprise when he fall in love with Regina.

Cody is in love with Regina and is about 10 years younger than her.  She only sees him as a younger brother and he's jealous when she starts spending time with D.J.   He's quite the hacker himself and manages to crack some of Regina's codes.  We learn a secret about Cody!

4/5
