RS Review: Stolen (Lucy Kincaid) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Stolen" the 6th book in her Lucy Kincaid series by Allison Brennan.

Nothing is more important to private investigator Sean Rogan than his relationship with FBI trainee Lucy Kincaid. But when his past catches up with him, Sean faces an ultimatum: clear his name and help the FBI take down a rogue agent, or go to prison and lose everything he holds dear. With only Agent Noah Armstrong as his back-up and forced to keep Lucy in the dark, Sean steps back into his old world. But the longer he’s undercover, the more dangerous the game becomes. More than Sean’s future with Lucy is at stake — so is his life.

Lucy can’t imagine Sean would keep secrets from her — until an FBI agent casts doubt about who he really is…and who he used to be. Why did Sean quit his job with his brother and move to New York? Why hasn’t he told her anything about his new job? With more questions than answers, Lucy doesn’t know who to believe or who she can trust. All she knows is that Sean is in grave danger, and this time, it’s personal.

I've finished "Exposed" the book in her Tracer series by Laura Griffin.

Product Description

Every picture tells a story. But not all of them have happy endings.

As a forensic photographer at the Delphi Center crime lab, Maddie Callahan is used to seeing violence up close, but she’s never before been the target of it. And although her camera was stolen, Maddie knows she has something that could be even more valuable to investigators.

FBI agent Brian Beckman has spent months investigating a vicious criminal known as the Doctor, only to have a key witness abducted on his watch. Worse, he’s falling for the woman who may be the Doctor’s next target. Maddie’s aloof facade hides a world of hurt that he wants to heal, no matter how much she keeps him at bay. MT Review: Her Last Breath: A Novel

I've finished "Her Last Breath" the 5th book in her Kate Burkholder series by Linda Castillo.

Product Description

An extraordinarily beautiful Amish woman, a dangerous femme fatale, is the central figure in a story that reveals a dark side of Painters Mill and its seemingly perfect Amish world.

A rainy night, an Amish father returning home with his three children, a speeding car hurtling toward them out of nowhere.

What at first seems like a tragic, but routine car accident suddenly takes on a more sinister cast as evidence emerges that nothing about the crash is accidental. But who would want to kill an Amish deacon and two of his children? He leaves behind a grieving widow and a young boy who clings to life in the intensive care wing of a hospital, unable to communicate. He may be the only one who knows what happened that night. Desperate to find out who killed her best friend’s husband and why, Kate begins to suspect she is not looking for a reckless drunk, but instead is on the trail of a cold blooded killer amid the residents of Painter’s Mill. It is a search that takes her on a chilling journey into the darkest reaches of the human heart and makes her question everything she has ever believed about the Amish culture into which she was born.

My Review:

The beginning opens with a father coming home with his three children when a car sideswipes them.  Kate takes the call and when she arrives she is horrified at what she sees.  When she realizes it's Paul and his children who is married to her best friend in childhood she is devastated.  There is only one survivor the oldest child David 9 years old but he is in bad shape and is taken to the hospital.

If that wasn't even enough she has to deal with her love life.  John Tomassetti her criminal investigator lover wants to move to the next step in their relationship - he wants her to move in with him.  She is wary and trying to deal with the situation without hurting John.

If that wasn't enough the remains of Daniel Lapp the rapist who attacked her when she was 14 years old is found in an abandoned mine.

This book was well written, fast paced and twisted plot with sick psycho villains who have no remorse whatsoever.

The Millionaire and the Mummies: Theodore Davis's Gilded Age in the Valley of the Kings [Hardcover]

Product Description

Egypt, The Valley of the Kings, 1905: An American robber baron peers through the hole he has cut in an ancient tomb wall and discovers the richest trove of golden treasure ever seen in Egypt. At the start of the twentieth century, Theodore Davis was the most famous archaeologist in the world; his career turned tomb-robbing and treasure-hunting into a science. Using six of Davis’s most important discoveries — from the female Pharaoh Hatshepsut’s sarcophagus to the exquisite shabti statuettes looted from the Egyptian Museum not too long ago — as a lens around which to focus his quintessentially American rags-to-riches tale, Adams chronicles the dizzying rise of a poor country preacher’s son who, through corruption and fraud, amassed tremendous wealth in Gilded Age New York and then atoned for his ruthless career by inventing new standards for systematic excavation. Davis found a record eighteen tombs in the Valley and, breaking with custom, gave all the spoils of his discoveries to museums. A confederate of Boss Tweed, friend of Teddy Roosevelt, and rival of J. P. Morgan, the colorful "American Lord Carnarvon" shared his Newport mansion with his Rembrandts, his wife, and his mistress. The only reason Davis has been forgotten by history to a large extent is probably the fact that he stopped just short of King Tutankhamen’s tomb, the discovery of which propelled Howard Carter (Davis’s erstwhile employee) to worldwide fame just a few short years later. Drawing on rare and never - before - published archival material, The Millionaire and the Mummies, the first biography of Theodore Davis ever written rehabilitates a tarnished image through a thrilling tale of crime and adventure, filled with larger-than-life characters, unimaginable treasures, and exotic settings.

18 and Over Book Blogger Hop #72

18 and Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that begins on Fridays and runs through the weekend hosted by Crystal from Reading Between the Wines

The 18 Over Book Blogger Follow is a Friday blog hop with the objective to find and visit other book blogs that share the same interest as you, namely books geared towards the 18 and over crowd, and make new friends!

How to join in:

You should run a book blog that features and reviews mostly adult reads, some Y.A.’s are okay but 18 and  Over adult reads should be your majority.

Make a separate post for the 18 and Over Book Blogger Follow on your blog.

Copy the html for the button above and place it at the top of your post.

List and answer the ‘Question of the Week.’

Place your name and blog title in the linky below and the url for a direct link to your post

Visit the other blogs on the list. If you like what you see make sure to leave a comment and follow so the blog owner knows you stopped by and can return the favor. Following each blog is not mandatory but I know it is always appreciated, and if someone comments saying they’re a new follower it’s polite to follow back. It’s always nice to spread the 18 and Over Book Blog love!

Question of the Week: What's your favorite time period for your fictional fantasy men? Do you drool over a Scottish Highlander in his kilt swinging his... err... claymore? Do you want a bodice ripper to scandalize you before the ton? Maybe a modern day Commando to sweep you off your feet and then tie you up in creative ways? Or perhaps a futuristic space pirate to kidnap you away from Earth and tempt you with all of his unknown alien bedroom secrets? *eyebrow wiggle*

My favorite time period for my fictional fantasy man is during the Victorian era with a bodice ripper than will scandalize you before the ton (though I shudder at wearing a corset during this era).  Though I do like my modern men too!

MT Review: Ready to Die (Selena Alvarez / Regan Pescoli) [Hardcover]

I've finished "Ready to Die" the book in her Selena Alvarez and Regan Pescoli series by Lisa Jackson.

Product Description

One by one, he’ll stalk them, then he’ll squeeze the trigger, savoring the way each lifeless body crumples to the reddening snow. One down already. And then there were five. When Detective Regan Pescoli drives to Sheriff Dan Grayson’s house to present her resignation, she’s prepared for an argument. She’s not expecting to find Grayson shot and bleeding out on the frozen ground. The assassination attempt leaves Grayson barely clinging to life and the entire police department of Grizzly Falls, Montana, in shock. Every lawman has enemies, but something about this shooting suggests more than a simple grudge. Now Pescoli feels compelled to stay on the force until the case is solved. She and Detective Selena Alvarez — who is torn between a new relationship and her loyalty to Grayson — work to whittle down the list of suspects. But the deeper they go, the more personal and dangerous the case becomes. Then a prominent judge’s body is found and the killer sends a sinister warning to the press: “Who’s Next?” Headstrong and eager for justice, Pescoli has no intention of waiting around to find out. She’ll track the scant clues on her own if she has to, but she has no idea where her search will lead. Two down, four to go and now Regan and Pescoli are at the top of a killer’s list. And when hunter meets prey, both must be willing to kill — and ready to die.

My Review:

It's Christmas season in Grizzly Falls and Detective Regan Pescoli has just been proposed to by her sexy and handsome cowboy boyfriend Nate Santana. He has also gave her a stipulation that he will give her a week to let him know her answer. He wants to make her his wife and not just a lover. Regan knows she loves Nate but after two divorces and two kids later she is hesitant to make another failed commitment.

As she arrives at her bosses Dan Grayson to settle some choices she witnesses his assassination attempt right in front of her. Now he is in the hospital and then a high profile judge's body is found and both Selena and Regan wonder if the two cases are connected.

During the investigation they find a hit list with 6 names that a killer is determined to kill one by one. Also it leads to someone they both know.

This book had a well written storyline with characters you care about and some you may not, tons of actions that keeps you on your toes.

Interesting drama regarding family members of the Grayson clan and I'm curious what people's reaction is going to be when they find out the truth about the new additions to the family dynamics.

With the help of Mark Valiente, a dangerously sexy vampire cop, Alessande narrowly escapes becoming a sacrifice herself. Unseen: A Novel (Will Trent) [Hardcover]

Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling novels featuring detective Will Trent are utterly riveting and masterfully drawn. Her latest thriller, Unseen, pits detectives, lovers, and enemies against one another in an unforgettable standoff between righteous courage and deepest evil.

Will Trent is a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent whose latest case has him posing as Bill Black, a scary ex-con who rides a motorcycle around Macon, Georgia, and trails an air of violence wherever he goes. The cover has worked and he has caught the eye of a wiry little drug dealer who thinks he might be a useful ally. But undercover and cut off from the support of the woman he loves, Sara Linton, Will finds his demons catching up with him.

Although she has no idea where Will has gone, or why, Sara herself has come to Macon because of a cop shooting: Her stepson, Jared, has been gunned down in his own home. Sara holds Lena, Jared’s wife, responsible: Lena, a detective, has been a magnet for trouble all her life, and Jared’s shooting is not the first time someone Sara loved got caught in the crossfire. Furious, Sara finds herself involved in the same case that Will is working without even knowing it, and soon danger is swirling around both of them.

In a novel of fierce intensity, shifting allegiances, and shocking twists, two investigations collide with a conspiracy straddling both sides of the law. Karin Slaughter’s latest is both an electrifying thriller and a piercing study of human nature: what happens when good people face the unseen evils in their lives.

My Review:

This volume is definitely 18+ because of the violence, sharp objects in body parts, people blown up and a psychotic teenager who has a fondness for death and sex with dead bodies.

The illustrations are well drawn and detailed especially the scenes described in the first paragraph.

My Review:

This is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland with a gender reversal.  Alice is a guy this time around and he's certainly more aggressive then the original Alice.  He doesn't hesitate to voice his opinion or whip out a gun to threaten you with.

I really like this manga with it's interesting storyline, gender reversal who has a fiery personality and threatens you with words and actions and the illustrations are nicely drawn.

My Review:

Katherine Fisk the heroine has been spying on man bathing in a pond near her home.  Garret finally catches her gaping at him and she knows he's the one for her.  Their conversation is short but she is to meet him again tomorrow.

Garrett is the Duke of Calton and is determined to bring his sister back from the evil clutches of her husband.  Unknown to him he doesn't realize that Kate is the younger sister of his nemesis.

After two days Kate is certain she wants to give herself to Garrett without knowing much about him like his martial status.

Then Garrett is captured by William Kate's demented older brother and Garrett is uncertain if Kate is involved or not.   Kate isn't loved like her older brother, her mom is quite vocal who she favors and she is a surrogate mother to her younger brother.  Kate is also a servant in her brother's house and doesn't inform her sister-in-law of their status.

Kate is conflicted with her feeling regarding her family loyalties and her feelings about not being loved by her mother.  Garrett struggles with his guilt for hurting Kate's family and his feelings for her.

I really liked how the hero and heroine demonstrated their compassion and love for one another.  The villlain was truly demented and evil beyond belief.

Drawing on rare and never-before-published archival material, The Millionaire and the Mummies, the first biography of Theodore Davis ever written rehabilitates a tarnished image through a thrilling tale of crime and adventure, filled with larger-than-life characters, unimaginable treasures, and exotic settings.
