My Review:

10 years ago in Denver, teenagers Snake "Dez" Mendez and Reese Montana met and fell in love while defeating Cobra. Their relationship ends when insane winikin Louis Keban, who Dez had run away from before he hooked up with Reese caught up to the teen. Keban cut Dez with a cursed blade that changed and  turned him into a demonic possessed felon.

The Nightkeepers recruit Dez and removes the shadows from his brain.  He fights evil in New Mexico which he believes he has an IOU for all the damage he did as a criminal.  Then Dez falls off the and the Nightkeepers leader Strike hires PI Reese to find him.  Reese believed Dez died three years ago in an incident.  She finally locates him and Dez convinces her to help him find Keban and stop him from fulfilling a prophecy that will bring Lord Vulture from the underworld.  He doesn't mention the role he plays in this prophecy.

I really enjoyed the pairing of Dez and Reese because the dynamics between them was very thrilling and Dez keeps Reese on her toes rather he will has changed from being bad to actually doing good.  Also he has to convince her how much he really wants her.

I also love how Ms. Andersen incorporates all the research she has done on the Mayan prophecy and builds her world around it.

Also really enjoyed how all the Nightkeepers have a role in helping save the world from evil.

Book Blogger Hop #5

Book Blogger Hop

This Meme is hosted by Jennifer from Crazy for Books on Fridays.

RULES:

Your blog should have content related to books, including, but not limited to book reviews.

1. Before you add your link, you must post about the Hop on your blog and link directly back to THIS POST (not just my domain, but the direct post for the Hop).

The linky is going to review the link that you enter in your submission, looking for a link to this post on your blog.  If it doesn’t find one, your link will not be approved.  This is called back linking and I had to institute it because people were taking advantage of the Hop and getting some free advertising without promoting the Hop themselves.  You can read more about this here.

2. While you are creating your post, answer the following question (there’s a new prompt each week)!

What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?

I wish I could get into more historicals.  I do read Rosemary Rogers, Brenda Joyce, Kat Martin, Catherine Coulter, Karen Robards, etc.

3. Now it’s time to enter your blog link into the linky below (after the list of instructions!).

Instructions:

Click on: You are next – Click here to enter

A new page will open

In the “Link Title/Blog Title” box, please enter the NAME OF YOUR BLOG and in parentheses after your blog name, please state the main genre that you review (i.e. Crazy-for-Books (contemp. fiction))
In the “Link” box, please put a direct link to your blog hop post (i.e. http://crazy-for-books.com/2011/07/book-blogger-hop-722-725.html)

There is a note about the Back Link requirement. Please make sure you have linked back to this blog hop post in the post on your blog or your link will not be accepted! Did you read that important note I told you about at the top of the post?

Please enter your e-mail address in the box provided in case I need to contact you about your link submission.

The list is randomized, so your link will not appear in a specified order. If you are looking for your link, I suggest you do a Ctrl-F on your PC keyboard and type a few letters of your blog name so you can find it easily.

The Bloggers of: We Fancy Books

We Fancy Books

Our blog is a group blog so we have different answers...

Something about us and why we started blogging...

TheJay2xA : Our blog is We Fancy Books; we named it like this because we really love to read books. Our blog is mainly for the three of us. We post MeMes and reviews of what we have just read. What made you start a book blog? Together with my two friends we made We Fancy Books

AddictedToV: I got really into books this year, and now reading has been part of my daily routine. At first I started in Goodreads and was exposed more in books, then I started to write my own reviews too. I also made my own blog eventually, but it was when my friend (in real life) TheJay2xA asked me to collaborate with him for a book blog, and I liked the idea, so here we are now (:

Ere Penera: I was reading too much books the past few days and I can’t help but tweet about how exciting those books were. And then my tweet buddy, Jayjay, asked me to join him in a book blog. And so I said okay even if I didn’t know exactly what’s to be done or written in it. He just told me I’d submit book reviews which was fine with me. But it turned out there are actually lots of other activities in a book blog so I’m starting to learn stuffs about it.

Books we read and favorite genre

TheJay2xA: I personally like Young Adult and Contemporary books, mystery thriller, paranormal romance and dystopian is also some of favorite genre.

AddictedToV: Young adult, science fiction, mystery, romance, dystopian, etc. As long as it’s exciting, entertaining and won’t give me much headache understanding complicated matters, I’m into it.

Era Penera: I really like young-adult fantasy. If it’s full of action or if there are mysteries then it’d be so much better.

The Bloggers of: A Novella's Tale

Lauren is my name :) I started blogging because I needed a way to somehow drain all my book wormish-ness. Here are three things about me: 1) I have a weird obsession with cute babies. No. Actually, all babies. Except for ones that smell too much... 2) On average it take me 5 days to finish reading a book. 3) I talk extremely too much and my friends say that is my signature personality (is talking even a personality??). My favourite books are Before I Fall, The Hunger Games, Uglies and Wintergirls. Currently I am reading Forgotten by Cat Patrick.

Q. Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

The first two authors I would love to have a dinner with are in the paranormal genre and they are Sherrilyn Kenyon and J.R. Ward.  I would ask Sherrilyn secrets about her Dark-Hunter and Nick books.  I would ask her secrets all about Ash and will he become friends again with Nick, etc.!  I would ask J.R. Ward secrets about her Black Dagger Brotherhood series especially about Blay and Quinn and Tohrment.

The third author I would love to have dinner with is in the romantic suspense genre and that is Heather Graham.  I would ask her all about writing tips and ask her how she gets her ideas for all her different genres of books she writes.

RS Review: Quinn [Hardcover]

I've finished "Quinn the 2nd in a trilogy by Iris Johansen.

Product Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen explores the darkest corners of the human heart as forensic sculptor Eve Duncan closes in on the killer who stole her daughter so many years ago.

As a former Navy SEAL turned cop, Joe Quinn has seen the face of evil and knows just how deadly it can be. When he first met Eve Duncan, he never expected to fall in love with a woman whose life would be defined by her dual desires to bring home her missing daughter and discover the truth behind her disappearance --- no matter how devastating. With the help of CIA agent Catherine Ling, they make a shocking discovery that sheds new light on young Bonnie’s abduction and puts Quinn squarely in the crosshairs of danger. Eve’s first love, John Gallo, a soldier supposedly killed in the line of duty, is very much alive --- and very much a threat.

Emotionally charged, with one shock after another, Quinn reveals the electricity of Joe and Eve’s first connection, and how they fell in love in the midst of haunting tragedy. As their search takes them deeper and deeper into a web of murder and madness, Joe and Eve must confront their most primal fears . . . and test their resolve to uncover the ultimate bone-chilling truth.

My Review:

Storyline:  Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan stays with her lover FBI Agent Joe Quinn as he struggles to survive stab wounds in the intensive care unit of the hospital following a confrontation with killer Paul Black. As Eve holds Joe's hands she reflects back to when they first met years ago on a child killer case in which her seven years old daughter Bonnie was abducted and assumed dead by everyone except her. Her obsession in bringing Bonnie home dead or alive she risked her life then and has many times since.

Eve's adoptive child Jane flies in from London and Catherine Ling meets her at the Milwaukee Airport where she explains how her search for her son began the events that have Joe in ICU. Black has insisted that Bonnie's biological dad John Gallo has killed her which Gallo never denied as he is unsure though he wants to believe he would not harm his child. Gallo remains free seeking proof in the Bayou that he did not murder Bonnie while Catherine Ling pursues him.

Characters:  Eve was more mature and acted older than her age when she lost Bonnie.  I loved that she has given up hope that she will find Bonnie's remains someday and is willing to risk her life to find out the truth who killed her.

I loved how Joe was very surprised to be attracted to Eve when he first met her and how he wanted to hide and protect her.  He really wanted to find Bonnie to ease her pain and she isn't even his type.  He senses a vulnerability in her and it calls to him and raises his protective side of his nature.

Romance: I really enjoy the romance between Joe and Eve and how their love evolved when they first met to now.

I'm really enjoying the Catherine and John Gallo interactions and their growing attraction to each other.  They make a formidable and deadly duo to come across.  They are both loners and understand what each are going through.  Their scenes together were really hot and steamy!  Oh I can't wait until they finally admit they need each other.

Killer: We never learn who the killer is but we do find out he is cunning and a deadly adversary.  His kills are very brutal and meant to hurt.

My Review:

SPOILERS:

1.  We find out that Niall and Claude have been in touch
2.  Eric and Sookie have rough sex
3.  Eric manhandles Sookie by tearing into her neck after a fight!
4.  Eric's betrothed to the Queen of Oklahoma that can't be broken!
5.  Tension between Pam and Eric
6.  Major development between the blood bond between Sookie and Eric

Someone has firebombed Merlotte's and some drugged out thugs are sent after Sookie and attempt to kidnap her.  Sookie has to figure out who is after her and help Eric get out under Victor.

There's tension between Pam and Eric and Sookie knows she is part of it.  Pam also wants to create her own vampire kid but she needs permission.

Sookie knows she has changed and  isn't sure she likes what she has become.  Things are strained between Sookie and Eric and the cracks are showing.  This major development might just the thing to break them up once for all.

Bill makes cameo appearances and I'm hoping Sookie ends up with him.  You can see he still cares about Sookie and wants her back.  Alcide another of her suitors makes a surprising cameo!  Now that was a hilarious scene!

Sookie makes some surprising revelations about her family history and we find out where she got her telepathy.  Love her interactions with Hunter her nephew and Sam her boss.

ARC Review: What a Goddess Wants [Paperback]

I've finished "What A Goddess Wants" by Stephanie Julian.

Product Description

It's OK no one remembers Etruscan Sun goddess Tessa. But when a demon threatens her life, she must turn to mythology's darkest warrior for protection...

My Review:

Tessa, the Etruscan Goddess of the Dawn on the run because the god of the Underworld is determined to catch her and take her powers for his own. Tessa doesn't want this to happen but can't seem to outrun him. She needs help and turns to her good friend Salvatorus.  Salvatorus is a cunning and humorous four foot man with goat legs with a New York accent.  He directs her to Caligo a Cimmerian warrior for protection.

Caligo, aka Cal, has been burned by Goddesses many times so he is reluctant about helping Tessa. He was recently nearly beaten to death by a God because of a Goddess he was trying to help and all of the betrayal has turned his heart to stone. Cimmerians are known for their amazing fighting skills and their lack of emotions and physical sensations like warmth and cold. Cal is surprised when he touches Tessa and feels warmth.

The chemistry between these two was smoking hot and I needed a shower every time.   The author balances the perfect amount of romance and action so the moments between Cal and Tessa feel very real. Cal is an alpha male with a weakness for damsels in distress and while Tessa is in distress she is not your typical damsel. She is not just going to take the punches coming to her, she is going to fight back, but she still needs help since hand to hand combat is not really her thing.

If you are looking for a fast and sexy read I highly recommend reading this book!

Alex Cross's TRIAL [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Alex Cross's Trial" by James Patterson and Richard DiLallo.

Product Description

Separated by time

From his grandmother, Alex Cross has heard the story of his great uncle Abraham and his struggles for survival in the era of the Ku Klux Klan. Now, Alex passes the family tale along to his own children in a novel he's written -- a novel called Trial.

Connected by blood

As a lawyer in turn-of-the-century Washington D.C., Ben Corbett represents the toughest cases. Fighting against oppression and racism, he risks his family and his life in the process. When President Roosevelt asks Ben to return to his home town to investigate rumors of the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan there, he cannot refuse.

United by bravery

When he arrives in Eudora, Mississippi, Ben meets the wise Abraham Cross and his beautiful granddaughter, Moody. Ben enlists their help, and the two Crosses introduce him to the hidden side of the idyllic Southern town. Lynchings have become commonplace and residents of the town's black quarter live in constant fear. Ben aims to break the reign of terror -- but the truth of who is really behind it could break his heart. Written in the fearless voice of Detective Alex Cross, Alex Cross's Trial is a gripping story of murder, love, and, above all, bravery.

About the Author

My Review:

In 1906, race relations are being threatened and the war has just ended.  Equality is still a foreign concept -- especially in the south. Theodore Roosevelt (the President of the USA) has placed an urgent call to Ben Corbett a prestigious lawyer summoning him to The White House. The President instructs Corbett to seek the aid of Abraham Cross in his home town of Mississippi and together investigate the outbreak of burning and lynching of minorities.

When he finally arrives it doesn't take him long to find Cross who is being escorted by a beautiful young woman, Moody. Moody is Cross' grand daughter and together they show Corbett the true extent of the hate - filled assaults in a once peaceful town. While it does take Corbett a while to accept the truth, he does finally come to realize just how dangerous the situation is.

This book had lots of twists and turns especially dealing with Abraham Cross.  I thought the racial overtones were well written but they could be quite graphic though.
