My Review:

Nikki Burgess was in a horrible marriage and an even worst divorce.  She's just about to give up on finding happiness when he ex-husband suddenly dies and she gets custody of her kids.  She gets a chance to start over again.

Dixie McPherson has known a lot of love and she has the mementos to back it up - eleven tennis bracelets, tons of trinkets, piles of sexy lingerie and a bad reputation.  All she wanted was to find true love, get married and have a family.

Carlisle Bartlett is a very likeable, kindhearted, loyal and funny loving guy that makes drinks at the back of an airplane.  He is hiding a terrible secret and the only relationship/love he finds is ones that leave him battered and bruised.

Then Nikki, Dixie and Carlisle are given a chance to start over at a new airline in Las Vegas and they don't hesitate to join.

This was an interesting read because of three different story lines and how they are intertwined with each other.  You really feel for Dixie and Carlisle because of the abuse and stuff both had to put up with.  You feel very sorry for Nikki with her situation her ex-husband put her in.

I don’t know about you, but when I search an author’s web site, it’s usually because I’ve read a book I liked and wondered about the person behind it…and the formal bio doesn’t tell me much.

So I will. First of all, call me Rocki. Everyone does. Evidently, when my mother brought me home from the hospital I seemed too scrawny and small to pull off “Roxanne” (she’d read Cyrano de Bergerac while pregnant or I would have been Judy) so they called me Rocki.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of five (overachievers, every one), and fell in love with words and stories the summer I read Gone With The Wind. That year, for my twelfth birthday, my parents gave me a typewriter (with italic font – it was the coolest thing) and from that day on, I’ve had my fingers on a keyboard, pounding out love stories for fun. My AP English teacher taught me the two most important lessons an aspiring author ever needs: 1) verbs are the key to life and 2) a writer should get a real job. After attending UCLA and graduating with a degree in communications, I tried acting and television broadcasting. Oh, they aren’t real jobs? I learned that the hard way. I changed my last name from Zink to St. Claire because a news producer told me Roxanne Zink had too many harsh consonants for a TV personality – apparently Katie Couric didn’t get the memo. I got some fun gigs, and even met Tom Hanks when I did a guest appearance on Bosom Buddies. I liked on camera work, but wasn’t too crazy about starvation, so I moved to Boston and got that “real” job. In fact, I placed my foot on the bottom rung of the corporate ladder and didn’t look down until I’d climbed all the way up to the level of Senior Vice President at the world’s largest public relations firm. On the way up, I met the man of my dreams in an elevator. Two years later – in the same elevator! – he asked me to marry him and I wisely said yes.

I stayed in PR, moved to Miami, had a few babies, lost my home in a hurricane, built another one a few hours north and all along, I kept writing my “stories” for fun. One night, I read a particularly fabulous romance novel that changed my life for good. That night, I decided I wanted to make someone else feel as whole and happy as that author made me feel. (Everyone asks! It was Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.) With two small children and one big “real” job, writing my first novel wasn’t easy, but I did finish a manuscript that managed to get the attention of a literary agent. She told me to do one thing and one thing fast: write another book. (The first one is usually a “learner” book, honestly.) That second manuscript sold to Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books and was released in 2003 as Tropical Getaway. Since then, I’ve written almost thirty more, in multiple genres, and long ago replaced the corporate ladder with the rollercoaster of publishing as a full-time novelist. Finally, writing is my real job.

Today, I live in a small beach community in Florida with my husband and our two teenagers, and one spectacular Australian Terrier named Pepper. When I have spare time, I spend it with my family, but also dig in the dirt with my plants, travel for business and fun, hang out with my many writer friends, and, of course, I love to read. I’m still crazy about words and stories and hope to write at least a hundred books in my lifetime. And, yes, verbs are the key to life. My favorites? Love. Work. Play.

My Review:

Jocelyn Bloom a "Life Coach to the Stars" finds herself in the middle of a scandal she retreats back to her hometown Barefoot Bay.  She never thought she would return and had hoped to put her dark secret past behind her.

Fifteen years ago Jocelyn and Will Palmer when both of them are about to go on their college journey they decide to make love.  Before they could Jocelyn's abusive father caught them and threatened Will that he could ruin his life.  You don't know what really happened that long ago night but you get flashbacks.  You do find out later though.

Now fifteen years later Jocelyn's father has dementia which has resulted in him being a changed man and Will has become his best friend and caretaker.   Jocelyn's father likes to do needlework and watch HGTV everyday and he doesn't remember Jocelyn is his daughter.  He thinks Will is his loving son.

Jocelyn is a great heroine because she's smart, loyal, very loving and she hasn't let the hard knocks in life bring her down a path she doesn't want to take.

Will is a very likeable guy you would like to bring home to your parents because he's smart, loving, funny and really nice all around guy.  He takes care of Jocelyn's father and forgiven him even though he was a mean man in his earlier years.

Thank you for having me on your lovely blog. I’m truly honored.

I’m here today to talk about the characters in my romantic suspense novel, Black Creek Burning. One of my goals in writing is to create characters that are diverse, real and interesting. I suppose I should listen to my reviews and feel accomplished in this area.

Brianna Chapman is the only witness to the murder of her parents … an arson that was meant for her. Over the years, she learns to bury her guilt by keeping busy and building a careful metaphorical wall around her. She’s aloof to personal relationships and it works. She’s smart and fit, although could never be deemed as a pretty woman in the standards of society. She loves working with her golden retriever and avoids any real time or connection in the home she inherited … the home that belonged to her parents.

Nathan Reed is a nationally renowned woodworking artist. In the height of his career, he inherits his two young nephews. After a handful of years failing at parenthood, he sells his woodworking studio and moves back to fictitious Northridge, New York to be closer the boys only other living relatives, their grandparents. He moves into a historic rundown farmhouse with plans to rebuild the beauty as he builds memories for his nephews. Behind the house is Black Creek. Beyond Black Creek is a classic Victorian and a confusing brunette. Nathan finds Brianna curt, quizzical and a puzzle he can’t seem to ignore.

Brianna sees Nathan as a lazy father with an unruly Labrador who moves his sons into a disgusting house so he can play in his garage while pawning off his boys to his parents. He might be a sexy, swaggering father and the boys might be completely adorable, but still …

As an author, I believe in the power of secondary characters. They add emotion, ties with family and/or friends and depth. Nathan’s nephews are six and eight years old. The younger is a fast-talking, funny little guy who often states the obvious, even if it is completely inappropriate. The older nephew has too many painful memories of his parents and the awful job Nathan has done filling in for them. He keeps his distance, calls his uncle by his first name although his brother refers to him as, ‘dad,’ and minds his own business --- he and Brianna have much in common and find much to discover together.

Brianna Chapman has learned to handle just about anything. Witnessing the murder of her parents had that effect. Knowing the unsolved arson had been meant for her is the one thing she can’t handle. Instead of dwelling, she stuffs her guilt soundly into her subconscious through diving into the teaching job she loves by day and the dirt of the landscaping business she owns by night. Her habit of remaining aloof to personal relationships is, well, working.

Will her guilt be as easy to keep buried if the killer comes back to finish the job?

In the midst of juggling a scorched yard, dead animals on her doorstep, and her vandalized car, the one thing she didn’t count on was the staggering Nathan Reed. A nationally renowned woodworking artist, Nathan and his two priceless nephews move into the run-down historical house behind her and over Black Creek. They have a canny way of maneuvering around her aloof demeanor and into her heart. Will they still want to be part of her life when they discover she is haunted by past memories and hunted by present dangers?

When did you start blogging?

Fairly recently, actually. To be more exact, September 22nd, 2012!

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Tough question – there are just so many things I love about book blogging! But my favorite part is knowing that somebody is listening to my opinions, and that I’m helping great books reach new readers
they deserve.

What is your favorite book(s)?

This is going to take a while … Just off the top of my head, they are:

The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, a fantasy series that I feel need much more recognition.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, my first YA novel.

The Curious Incident of the Dog at the Night-time by Mark Haddon.

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

The best thing that has happened to me since I started book blogging is being able to connect with other readers and bloggers around the world and share my love (and obsession) with books. It’s definitely a
welcomed change from ranting and swooning over a book alone! Not to mention that all the people I met have been nothing but warm and welcoming, so book blogging itself is a great experience for me

1. When did you start blogging?

I started book blogging January of 2012. I had a blog before that, but I really wasn't doing much of anything with it. I had no idea there was such a thing as book blogging until I started to look into sharing my book reviews on my blog!

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Being able to discover and share books and bookish thoughts with other people. I'm lucky enough to have friends that love to read, but now I'm part of a community of readers and I really enjoy it.

3. What is your favorite book(s)?

My tastes are all over the place and my favorites change frequently. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury are some old favorites and my new current favorite is The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Besides the initial awesomeness of finding out there was such a thing, I would say having friends wait for me to review a book before buying it. It makes me feel good that my opinion matters a lot to them and they trust my reviews. But book blogging has opened me up to a community of readers and authors and enriched my own reading so much, it's hard to pick the absolutely best thing that has happened to me because of it.

Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

The only deal breaker for me is when the heroine is so helpless and needs the hero to save her.  All she does is scream and when the hero tells her to do something she stays rooted on the spot.

There are other aspects I don't really like so as instant love, fooling around when people are after you, bad grammar, spelling mistakes, etc.

My Review:

Kara Newell a social worker was on her way south to visit her parents in Little Rock, Arkansas to start her vacation.  She has worked in New York for fifteen years and is now ready to relax and be able to sleep in.

Her first stop is in Charleston per the request of David Sullivan the attorney for Taylor Patton for the reading of his will.  She tries to tell David that she doesn't know Mr. Patton but he reassures her that Patton knew who she is.  When she arrives in the conference room she notices a group of people staring angrily at her as the lawyer reads out that he left all his belongs and his home to his biological daughter Kara with the condition that she restore the Angel's Landing National Historical Registry Site on Cavanaugh Island.  David persuades her to spend a week at the estate instead of allowing suspicious relatives to sell.

David calls his cousin Jeffrey Hamilton a retired Marine and the Cavanaugh Island sheriff to look after
Kara.  When Jeffrey meets Kara he is smitten and he vows to protect her and get to know her better. 

This book had a very touching love story, the bonds between family, cruel villains that will resort to violence to get what they want and very interesting secondary characters.

My Review:

Lina Taylor is an Archaeologist and college professor who has dedicated her life to studying ancient Mayan artifacts at South American digs.

Hunter Johnston is a former immigration and customs enforcement officer who helps his friend being accused of stealing some priceless and rare artifacts.  During a recent arrest some rare and priceless artifacts went missing that would guarantee it's owner a wealthy lifestyle and an importance in the social world.   If he can't locate the artifacts he will be fired but there is a complication he is married and his wife Ali is pregnant and they have five kids already.  Hunter enlists Lina's help in recovering the artifacts.

We learn these artifacts are used in a blood sacrifice ritual which revolves around the Mayan calendar prophecy.  As they investigate further blood sacrifices are being conducted and Lina becomes a target of a man named El Maya.  He will make sure nothing will stop him from bringing her to him.

This was a great action romantic suspense mystery with graphic violence and sexuality.  The author did a great job of researching the Mayan culture and it had a lot of edge of your seat suspense.
