 Well, hey howdy to all you PJV readers! My name is Amy (ArtsyBookishGal to some) and I’ve been blogging since 2003. Yup, I’m a pioneer of the blogosphere. Initially, I just wrote about my life, posted crappy digital pics of my hamster, and some bad poetry. Then it occurred to me that I could actually say something, so after a stint as an editor for a youth ministry website, I revamped my online image into what is now BackseatWriter.com, which focuses on all sorts of media—books, music, photography (the non-crappy kind), pop culture, and my thoughts on life, God, and whatever strikes my fancy. However, I started writing about books. A lot. My regular readers became annoyed, so I started my brand spankin’ new book blog called Backseat Reader (backseatreader.net).

A play off of Backseat Writer, Backseat Reader is dedicated to books, books, and more books in a variety of genres, including literary fiction, memoir, dystopian, fantasy (urban and other), Christian living (and a splatter of Christian fiction. Why are so many Christian fiction books about Amish people?), and a smidgen of the paranormal (I’m not a junkee for it, like some awesome people around here.) I adore the Harry Potter series, which jumpstarted my love of YA books, and I am on a crusade to inform people that Fred Weasley is not dead. I have a lifelong love of books that span across genres. These books include: Bridge to Terabithia, the Bunnicula series, The Jesus I Never Knew, Messy Spirituality, Bird by Bird, Harry Potter series, Speak, and anything by Eric Carle (come on, you know you love The Very Hungry Caterpillar).

When I’m not writing, reading, or blogging, I am exploring, photographing, playing, jumping in puddles, or sitting on the couch wishing I was more adventurous. I have two dogs Cassie the Peekapoo and Maddy the Shih Tzu as well as a bird named Kylie the Cockatiel. Yes, I am an animal person. Q. What are you doing to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse and/or the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen? (Both of which could be terrifying.) 

I would run away from the zombies and stay far away from the silver screen whenever a Mel Gibson movie is released!

My Review:

After weeks of playing cyberspace tag a mysterious hacker has beaten D.J. at his own game.  The hacker has downloaded a top secret file on the Paladins.  He goes on the hunt and it leads him to Regina Morrison who's job is to crack down on hackers from accessing her client's files.  She didn't expect D.J. to land on her doorstep or to even look hotter than his avatar.  As her investigation deepens Regina is kidnapped and forced to cross a barrier into alien territory.  D.J. must rescue her with the help of Regina's best friend Cody which is tearing his heart apart.

At work Regina has to deal with a sexually harassing co-worker who she puts in his place by hurting him where it hurts.  Her boss sticks up for her but won't fire him because he's good at his job.  Cody works with Regina and he's her best friend.  Regina is a strong and take charge women who won't take any flak from any man or women.  Really enjoy her bantering with D.J. and I thought it was quite funny and humorous.  She can be busy at times.

D.J. is your typical alpha male who wants to protect and take care of his woman.  He found it a surprise when he fall in love with Regina.

Cody is in love with Regina and is about 10 years younger than her.  She only sees him as a younger brother and he's jealous when she starts spending time with D.J.   He's quite the hacker himself and manages to crack some of Regina's codes.  We learn a secret about Cody!

I've finished "Buried Prey" the 22nd book in his Lucas Davenport series by John Sandford.

My Review:

Storyline:  Lucas has risen from patrol to detective who is now a top investigator in the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. There is one case that has burdened Davenport's conscience, the abduction and assumed murder of two young girls that occurs just as Lucas is breaking out of patrol work and angling for detective. Davenport accepts his superior's resolution to the case in spite of serious reservations. In the present twenty-five years later, the bodies of the Jones sisters are discovered at a construction site and Lucas is reexamining the case that has haunted his career. 

Characters:  The first half of the book is set in 1985 and we get to see a young Davenport. It was so much interesting to see how Lucas was then to now.   We first see when Lucas and Del Capslock are first paired up.   Their witty banter has continued to this day. The characterization is set for what we know of Lucas today (his way with women, his obsession with clothes and his 'outside the box' methods).

Although the supposed perpetrator was killed while resisting arrest, Davenport was dissatisfied with the resolution, feeling that there were too many unanswered questions related to the incident. Other cases were initiated, however, and Davenport never followed through on his intent to further investigate the matter.
The second part deals with Lucas possessed by overwhelming guilt in resolving to bring the true perpetrator to justice, inspired by the all - but - certain knowledge that the fiend who killed the sisters so long ago has claimed other victims as well.

There was a very interesting twist in the storyline and the suspense ends in a awesome conclusion.

Romance:   Lucas is happily married to Weather and they have a baby boy.  But back in 1985 he was a womanizer and didn't really have a steady relationship.

Killer:  The killer was very sneaky with very few people actually seeing him.  He was a mystery man named John Fell whose presence in and around the case was very suspicious.  I'm surprised he actually stopped kidnapping and killing girls (he had an affinity for young girls).
