How Do You Promote a Paranormal Romance?
Hi everyone! I want to thank my gracious hostess, Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews, for letting me take over her blog today! I am out in the blogosphere to talk up our new paranormal romance, Romancing the Million $$ Ghost coming soon this fall. I say “we” because there are actually three of us – Heide AW Kaminski, Pam Ryan and myself. True ghostie lovers to the max but more than that — lovers of paranormal romances.
So since I have become the designated driver in the publicity department for our book, I thought I’d share with everyone ways in which I am promoting our paranormal romance. The goal, of course, is to get as many eyeballs as we can to find out about our book. So I aim for the Internet mainly because of the exposure but also because we have chosen to self-publish and do so exclusively with Amazon. Everything is online which is actually the way we three started out — as online buds in a ghostie group.
So here we have an ebook and a self-published ebook at that. What are the odds anyone is going to care? Are the odds stacked against us? Yes and no.
Yes because all of the publicity and distribution falls in our hands. But I figure we can learn how to do what others do, right?
And no because I feel ebooks have come into their own. Finally. I’ve never seen such hoopla over ebooks in all my life.
So back to promotions.
Before I begin, I want to note a couple of things. Way before the book was published for the second time (long story), I had already taken several steps to make sure there wasn’t anything that would be detrimental to sales. First, I paid someone to make us a wonderful book cover. Check. Second, I paid someone else to edit the little dickens out of it. Check check. Third, our trailer guy made a terrific book trailer for us that you can see here. Check check check.
But there’s way more to it than that and my suggestions below only touch the surface.
I set up a book blog (www.milliondollarghost.blogspot.com) and started blogging and talking about anything related to the book. People can sign up for updates or even sign up on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RomancingTheMillionDollarGhost.
The third thing I did and this is the best way I know how to promote a paranormal romance — or any genre for that matter — and that is set up a cover reveal (I chose this instead of a book blast or promo blitz which are all basically the same thing but I really wanted to concentrate on the cover for this) and a virtual book tour to start the month after. The blast ended up piquing the interest of almost 100 bloggers, but the virtual book tour (which I’m on now) runs for 6 months and by the time it’s all said and done, will probably have well over 100 bloggers signed up to host. That’s a Monday – Friday thing so weekends aren’t included. I knew that I wanted a long tour for this — to gain more exposure in the search engines, higher Alexa rankings, more follows on our Facebook page and more signups on our blog — and I knew I wanted to start it in a month that would be perfect — October (Halloween and all those ghostie spooky things going on).
So far, so good.
My best advice to anyone wanting to promote their book — whether it’s a paranormal romance or any other genre — is to start EARLY. I started canvassing bloggers for the cover blast and the blog tour before the book was even edited. And this is while I’m coordinating blog tours for my clients. You just have to set aside some time every day and do it.
And I can’t guarantee you’ll be sane by the time it’s all said and done.
Oh, we’re giving away some fabulous prizes during our tour and we’d love for you to enter the giveaways by clicking here!
Happy Halloween everyone and please check out Romancing the Million $$ Ghost on sale this fall!

About the Book:
Eccentric tobacco tycoon Rodger Hawthorne III can have anything his heart desires except his dead wife, Sarah. Feeling responsible for the car crash that killed her twenty years earlier, he offers one million dollars to anyone who can find her spirit and bring it to him within one week or the money is forfeited. Six spiritually-challenged — but highly intuitive — women find his ad over the Internet and accept his challenge only to embark on a journey they didn’t quite expect that covers astral traveling, past life regressions and spiritual encounters of the unworldly kind. While this book is lightly based on a true story of a real man who is offering one million dollars to anyone who can prove that spirits exist, this story is purely fictional. Or is it?
