PNR Review: Savage Awakening: An Alpha Pack Novel [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Savage Awakening" the 2nd book in her Alpha Pack series by J.D. Tyler.

Product Description

A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top-secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. But sometime those dangers are more intimate than they bargained for ...

After a mission goes wrong, Aric Savage is taken prisoner. Half-dead and despairing, he makes a stunning discovery: his Pack mate Micah Chase, who was reported dead, is a fellow captive. When the Alpha team goes into full-rescue mode, accompanying them is an absolute stunner with sable hair -- and a spine of solid steel.

LAPD officer and Psy Dreamwalker Rowan Chase has one priority: her brother Micah's recovery. Still, she can't help but be drawn to Aric, the ruggedly handsome wolf shifter who pleasures her as no man ever has -- however fleeting their affair is destined to be. But when Aric's life is endangered, Rowan must ask herself what she's willing to sacrifice in the name of love, for the man fated to be her Bondmate.

My Review:

In the previous book Alric Savage was captured by his evil stepsister and this book opens with him being tortured by her.  Then he is experimented on and then is thrown into a cage where he sees a teammate Micha Chase that everyone thought was killed near death's door.

LAPD officer Rowan Chase works in the gang infested East Side.  After she shoot a rogue gang member and then put on leave she gets a tip where he younger brother Micah might be after being told he was killed six months ago.  She shows up at the location and is greeted by white wolves and a black panther.  When they transform into men she faints away.

Nick the Alpha Pack leader decides to tell Rowan the real truth about them and about her brother Micah.  She doesn't believe it at first but when she finds out they plan on rescuing Micah and Alric she insists on helping. They manage to rescue Micah and Alric but unable to capture Alric's evil stepsister or Dr. Bowman who is the one experimenting on the shifters.

Alric realizes Rowan is his lifemate but feels he doesn't deserve her and not telling his team about his evil stepsister.  Rowan is attracted to Alric but just wants to help her brother heal emotionally and physically.

We also see Kalen struggling with a demon that is trying to control him by destroying his friends and family.  We learn he is related to Sariel - he's his father the King of the Unseelie (he raped Sariel's mother) and is the one who has been attacking the Alpha Pack.

RS Review: If You Hear Her: A Novel of Romantic Suspense [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "If You Hear Her" the 1st book in her Ash trilogy by Shiloh Walker.

Product Description

A CRY IN THE WOODS

The scream Lena Riddle hears in the woods behind her house is enough to curdle her blood — she has no doubt that a woman is in real danger. Unfortunately, with no physical evidence, the local law officers in small-town Ash, Kentucky, dismiss her claim. But Lena knows what she heard — and it leaves her filled with fear and frustration.

Ezra King is on leave from the state police, but he can’t escape the guilty memories that haunt his dreams. When he sees Lena, he is immediately drawn to her. He aches to touch her — to be touched by her — but is he too burdened by his tragic past to get close? When Ezra hears her story of an unknown woman’s screams, his instincts tell him that Lena’s life is also at risk — and his desire to protect her is as fierce as his need to possess her.

My Review:

Lena Riddle is blind works as a chef at her best friends restaurant.  One night she hears a women's scream but thinks she is dreaming at first.  When she goes to the police for help they don't believe her.

Ezra King is a detective on medical leave after being shot and finding out his partner and lover is a dirty cop.  When he hears that Lena heard a women's scream in the middle of the night he decides to help her.

When Ezra sees Lena in the restaurant he is immediately attracted to her and you can feel the deep connection between them both physically and emotionally.  Their love scenes were hot and passionate.  Ezra had a rough past so he is wary of getting involved emotionally with a women but when he gets to know Lena he falls hard.

Lena was a strong character and she is determined to live life to the fullest on her own terms.

We also meet Remy Jennings Ash's DA (hero of the second book, Hope (heroine of the second book) who arrives in Ash on the request of her best friend Law Reilly (hero of the third book) who's a suspense novelist.  We learn that Hope was beaten viciously by her cop ex-husband and as a result she is not the sanest of people.

We also meet the killer and his victim but we don't find out the killer's identity in this book.  I never guessed who the killer could be.  I was sickened what he does to his female victims (he was very viscous and cruel).  He loved to rape and torture them.

YA Review: Royal Street [Paperback]

I've finished "Royal Street" the 1st book in her Sentinels of New Orleans series by Suzanne Johnson.

Product Description

As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco’s job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ's boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.

Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans’ fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters.

While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now, the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering the soldiers sent to help the city recover.

To make it worse, Gerry has gone missing, the wizards’ Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ’s new partner, and undead pirate Jean Lafitte wants to make her walk his plank. The search for Gerry and for the serial killer turns personal when DJ learns the hard way that loyalty requires sacrifice, allies come from the unlikeliest places, and duty mixed with love creates one bitter gumbo.

About the Author

Suzanne Johnson is a magazine editor and feature writer with more than fifty national writing and editing awards. A longtime New Orleans resident, she helped rebuild for two years after Hurricane Katrina.

My Review:

Drusilla Jaco aka DJ is given the assignment of capturing and sending the famous and gorgeous pirate Jean Lafitte back to the Beyond by her boss Gerald St. Simon aka Gerry.  DJ sends him back but not before he threatens her with retribution.  Hurricane Katrina arrives and DJ is ordered to evacuate when she receives word that Gerry is missing.  She hurries back and finds New Orleans is flooded and thinks Gerry is dead but the Elders believe he betrayed them and is in hiding.

She's now the leader of New Orleans and her orders is to send the dead back to the beyond and to plug all the breaches where they are coming from.  She's assigned a new partner Alex Warin an Elders Enforcer and she thinks he's a HOTTIE!  They spend a lot of time together helping each other and running into cases involving voodoo and National Guard killings.  She also meets Alex's cousin Jake Warin another HOTTIE who also helps when needed!

This was a fun and thrilling YA read with great character development, a love triangle with three men after DJ (Alex, Jake and Lafitte) and a scary, cruel and viscous villain.

My Review:

Yoite and Miharu are still on the run when they are attacked by the deadly twins again.  Yoite and they fight and Yoite is hurt badly (he has used too much Kisa) but is saved by Raimei and Koichi.  Raimei and Koichi engage in fighting the twins which allows Yoite and Miharu escape.  They go to Hanabasa Seki house and follow her to her house.  She invites them in for refreshments and comments that Yoite is wearing the scarf she made him.  She says she will make one for Miharu too.

Meanwhile Yukimi is fighting Raiko and gets the upperhand over him.  Raiko tells Yukimi what Yoite plans to do and where he is headed.  Yukimi manages to overpower Raiko and leaves but Raiko manages to follow him.

Those two deadly twins find Yoite and Miharu and finally corners them.  They are beating Yoite and when they finally look up they see Yukimi and he shoots them.  Yukimi tells Miharu to leave with Yoite while he deals with the two deadly assassins.  They take off while Yukimi fights both the assassins.  He manages to seriously hurt both of them but he is stabbed in the chest and is almost dying.

Miharu is kidnapped by the Grey Wolves and brought back to a cabin where the leader tells him what he plans.  Yoite manages to save him and they are reunited.  Yoite realizes that he is alive because there are people who care about him (he dies happy and satisfied)  and Miharu grants Yoite his final wish and that is to erase everyone's memories of him.

Meanwhile Raiko defects from the Grey Wolves with Gau by his side.  We learn a little bit about their past and they manage to escape.

Then we see Miharu waking up after a months rest remembering Yoite and he is living in secrecy.

RS Review: The Heart of a Killer [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Heart of a Killer" the 1st book in her Killer series by Jaci Burton.

Product Description

No one said coming home would be easy.

But for Dante Renaldi, it's murder.

Before the Special Forces hero has even unpacked his bags from twelve years of active duty, he's embroiled in murder — corpses bearing the brutal trademark he's seen only once before — on the worst night of his life.

The last time Detective Anna Pallino saw Dante Renaldi, they were in love. Now, he's part of the connection to a string of fresh homicides and a horrible assault Anna only survived thanks to him.

More than anything, Anna wants to trust Dante. But as the bodies and the coincidences stack up, Anna will have to decide, and fast: Is the man she owes her life to the very same one who wants her dead?

About the Author

Jaci Burton is a bestselling, award winning author who lives in Oklahoma and spends a fair amount of time on the back of her husband's Harley, where she often gets lost plotting her next story as the warm (and sometimes cold) breeze whips her face. She loves reality television, is a sucker for romantic comedies, and completely loses track of time when reading a great book. She's a total romantic and longs for the happily ever after in every story, which you'll find in all her books.

My Review:

16 year old Anna is dating sexy older 18 year old Dante and she works at an ice cream shop. One night after work she is attacked, beaten and has a heart carved onto her chest with a knife. Before he has a chance to rape her she is saved by Dante and his foster brothers Gabe, Roman and Jeff who beat him unconscious. After they make sure Anna is safe inside they go check on the guy and find him dead. Anna doesn't want her boyfriend or her friends to get in trouble so she calls her dad a cop who makes they go away.

Twelve years later Dante comes back for his foster parents anniversary and he can't say no to the only family he knows.  When he finds out his foster dad is missing and finds him murdered with a heart carved onto his chest in the same alley Anna was attacked he realizes they are connected.  Dante, Anna and his foster brothers are reunited over this case.

We learn that Dante has joined the military and has moved up the ranks in the Special Forces during those twelve years but he's quite mysterious about what he does for them.  Glad to see he opened up to Anna and told her what his job was.  He realizes he still is in love with her and is determined to break down her walls.

Anna has become a hardworking detective and is married to her job with no time for romance.  Once she sees Dante again she realizes she is still in love with him but is furious that he left without saying goodbye.
I can understand that Anna is furious with Dante for leaving without saying goodbye but I didn't really like how she treated him.  She treated him like a ant and would be yelling or complaining all the time.

I admire Dante for putting up with Anna's behavior and determination to break down her defenses.

ARC Review: Social Suicide (Deadly Cool) [Paperback]

I've finished "Social Suicide" the 2nd book in her Deadly Cool series by Gemma Halliday.

Product Description

Twittercide: the killing of one human being by another while the victim is in the act of tweeting.

Call me crazy, but I figured writing for the Herbert Hoover High Homepage would be a pretty sweet gig. Pad the resume for college applications, get a first look at the gossip column, spend some time ogling the paper's brooding bad-boy editor, Chase Erikson. But on my first big story, things went . . . a little south. What should have been a normal interview with Sydney Sanders turned into me discovering the homecoming queen –hopeful dead in her pool. Electrocuted while Tweeting. Now, in addition to developing a reputation as HHH's resident body finder, I'm stuck trying to prove that Sydney's death wasn't suicide.

I'm starting to long for the days when my biggest worry was whether the cafeteria was serving pizza sticks or Tuesday Tacos . . . .

My Review:
Hartley Featherstone is trying to get an exclusive with Home Coming Queen nominee Sydney Sanders to tell her side of the story of what happened in the first book Deadly Cool.  Sydney agrees to talk to Hartley but when she arrives at the designated spot she finds her dead.  Now she is in the middle of another murder and has to prove it's not suicide.
I really love the dynamics between Hartley and Chase because they work well together and you can see the sparks between them.

This was a fun light hearted and humerous romantic YA read which makes pokes fun at the teenage speak and gadgets.

An exciting debut novel set in the exotic, bustling streets of coastal China — a woman whose life is restored when she opens a small cafÉ and gains the courage to trust what’s in her heart.

Lost among the mayhem that defines Macau, Grace’s life is slowly unraveling. Her marriage to Pete is fraying and her dreams of having a family seem hopeless.

With the heralding of a new year she resolves to do something bold. Something her impetuous Mama might do. In this pocket of China, filled with casinos and yum cha restaurants, she opens her own small cafe called Lillian’s. This sanctuary of macarons and tea becomes a place where the women of Macau come together, bridging cultural divides, to share in each other’s triumphs and pain. But Grace’s immersion in the cafe takes its toll on her marriage, and when things start to crumble, her beloved Lillian’s suddenly feels like a burden rather than an escape. The recipe for disaster is complete when Pete does the unthinkable.

Infused with the heady aromas of Macau and peppered with delectable characters, The Color of Tea is a mouth-watering journey of the senses as Grace rediscovers what it is to love, to live with hope, and embrace real happiness.

Book Blogger Hop #27

Book Blogger Hop

This Meme is hosted by Jennifer from Crazy for Books on Fridays.

What to Do:

1. Post on your blog answering this question:

Blogging question: How do you handle the writing of a negative review?

2. Enter the link to your post in the linky list below (enter your Blog Name, Genre you review, and direct link to your post answering this week’s question; failure to do so will result in removal of your link). 3. Visit other blogs in the list, spending quality time getting to know the people you are visiting. Don’t just visit the post with the question, but click around and read some of the blogger’s other content, too! This Hop isn’t about the number of people you can visit, but the quality of each visit.

My Answer:

I don't write that many negative reviews but if I do I only comment on why I didn't think the book was for me (I make sure that I'm nice about it). I also try to write positive points too and that doesn't mean that someone else might like the book.

3. Visit other blogs in the list, spending quality time getting to know the people you are visiting. Don’t just visit the post with the question, but click around and read some of the blogger’s other content, too! This Hop isn’t about the number of people you can visit, but the quality of each visit.

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in August 2011 after chatting with some friends on Goodreads that were having fun with their new blogs.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I love chatting with so many amazing fellow bloggers, readers and authors. It’s given me the opportunity to connect with lots of other people that are just as crazy about books as I am.

What is your favorite book(s)?

You can’t possibly think I could narrow it down to one do you!? How about a few of my favorite series instead? Lords of the Underworld by Gena Showalter, Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost, The Fever Series by Karen Moning, Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole and The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward are definitely at the top of the list.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Definitely all of the great people I’ve met and of course the books!  I love chatting with all of the authors too, they’re like book celebrities!

Charissa Books

1. When did you start blogging?

About a year ago, we had our YouTube channel (BooksForYouAndMe) first.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Marissa: Connecting with other people and sharing what I've read!
Charlotte: Discussing books in the comments, and doing weekly events.

3. What is your favorite book(s)?

Marissa: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower & John Green books
Charlotte: The Hunger Games series and the Luxe series

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Marissa: Meeting people with similar interests and similar taste in books.
Charlotte: Talking to all types of bookish people, and learning the process that takes place when a book is published. It's so cool when an author tweets you, and stuff like that. You're a lot more involved in the blogging community, and you get more opportunities to talk to authors and such. I find the whole online book community totally fascinating, and getting to be a part of it is the best thing!

Q: Activity! Dreamcast your current read.

How to join in:

You should run a book blog that features and reviews mostly adult reads, some Y.A.’s are okay but 18 and  Over adult reads should be your majority.

Make a separate post for the 18 and Over Book Blogger Follow on your blog.

Copy the html for the button above and place it at the top of your post.

List and answer the ‘Question of the Week.’

Place your name and blog title in the linky below and the url for a direct link to your post

It’s always nice to spread the 18 and Over Book Blog love!

Question of the Week:  Do you feel the need to write a review for your personal reads, as oppose to requested reviews, or are there some books you read just for the joy of reading?

No I don't feel like I need to write a review on some personal reads because sometimes I don't finish the book so there isn't much I can review about (personally I don't really like writing negative reviews). For requested reviews I always write a review.

MT Review: 11th Hour (Women's Murder Club) [Hardcover]

I've finished "11th Hour" the 11th book in his Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson.

Product Description

Your best friend

Lindsay Boxer is pregnant at last! But her work doesn't slow for a second. When millionaire Chaz Smith is mercilessly gunned down, she discovers that the murder weapon is linked to the deaths of four of San Francisco's most untouchable criminals. And it was taken from her own department's evidence locker. Anyone could be the killer -- even her closest friends.

Or a vicious killer?

Lindsay is called next to the most bizarre crime scene she's ever seen: two bodiless heads elaborately displayed in the garden of a world-famous actor. Another head is unearthed in the garden, and Lindsay realizes that the ground could hide hundreds of victims.

You won't know until the 11th hour

A reporter launches a series of vicious articles about the cases and Lindsay's personal life is laid bare. But this time she has no one to turn to -- especially not Joe. 11TH HOUR is the most shocking, most emotional, and most thrilling Women's Murder Club novel ever.

About the Author

James Patterson has had more New York Times bestsellers than any other writer, ever, according to Guinness World Records. Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977 James Patterson's books have sold more than 240 million copies. He is the author of the Alex Cross novels, the most popular detective series of the past twenty-five years, including Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Mr. Patterson also writes the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels, set in San Francisco, and the top-selling New York detective series of all time, featuring Detective Michael Bennett. He writes full-time and lives in Florida with his family.

My Review:

Millionaire Chaz Smith is mercilessly gunned down and Lindsay discovers the murder weapon is linked to the deaths of four of San Francisco's most untouchable criminals and it was taken from her own department's evidence locker.

Then she is called to the Ellsworth compound where world famous actor Harry Chandler was accused of killing his wife 10 years ago.  He was acquitted because they never found any evidence or any body.  When she reaches the compound with her partner Rich Conklin they find  two bodiless heads elaborately displayed in the garden.  Then another head is unearthed and she realizes the garden could be the resting ground of thousands of heads.

There has been a serial killings against high level drug dealers with no evidence of who is doing the killings.  As Lindsay investigates further she discovers who the serial killer is.

If that isn't enough she has to contend with being pregnant and Joe might be having an affair.

This was another fast paced and thrilling mystery in the Women's Murder Club series.  I wish that Lindsay would talk to Joe instead of assuming he had an affair and blocking him out of her life.

Then she meets smoking hot Clayton "Clay" Walker a young architect who really wants to help her fulfill her dream.  Clay has been hurt very badly and is afraid of being in this situation again so all he wants is sex with Lacey.  He keeps telling himself this but he falls hard for the bossy and sexy mother.

My Review:

Mallory Quinn has grown up in Lucky Harbor and is an ER Nurse.  She is known as the good girl and she has a older sister Karen who died very young, a younger sister and brother who are both have a wild side.  Mallory decides to walk on the wild side and who better than Ty Garrison.

Ty Garrison is a former Navy Seal medic who lost his best friends and teammates.  He watched them all die and he couldn't do anything since he was badly hurt himself.  He lost the will to still be a Navy Seal so he has come to Lucky Harbor to heal.  He is known as Mysterious Cute Guy and there is information about him on Facebook.

Mallory goes to visit her friend Amy at the local diner after work.  There is only one other person there Grace who is just passing through when a snow storm hits.  They become trapped inside when a couple of trees crash through windows so they decide to eat a cake and wait it out.  When Mallory decides to go to her car to get her cell phone she notices a man lying on the ground bleeding with a concussion.  It's Mysterious Cute Guy and the girls are talking that Mallory doesn't have a date for the hospitals charity fundraiser.  Amy says to make it up to Mallory he can be her date and Mallory thinks he won't remember agreeing to go as he is rushed to the hospital.

The night of the fundraiser Mallory is waiting anxiously and a little nervous that Mysterious Cute Guy might be appear.  She turns to her left and there he is staring at her.

Mallory and Ty are very likeable characters and I really enjoyed their romance even though both deny they want a relationship.  It was very hot and steamy especially their encounter in an attic.

Once upon a time I had the perfect family. I had the perfect husband. I had the perfect children. I had the perfect life in the perfect home. And then, as in all fairy tales, evil came into our lives and destroyed us.

Four years after the unsolved disappearance of her sixteen-year-old daughter, Lauren Lawton is the only one still chasing the ghosts of her perfect Santa Barbara life. The world has given her daughter up for dead. Her husband ended his own life in the aftermath. Even Lauren's younger daughter is desperate to find what's left of the childhood she hasn't been allowed to have.

Lauren knows exactly who took her oldest child, but there is not a shred of evidence against the man. Even as he stalks her family, Lauren is powerless to stop him. The Santa Barbara police are handcuffed by the very laws they are sworn to uphold. Looking for a fresh start in a town with no memories, Lauren and her younger daughter, Leah, move to idyllic Oak Knoll. But when Lauren's suspect turns up in the same city, it feels to all the world that history is about to repeat itself. Leah Lawton will soon turn sixteen, and Oak Knoll has a cunning predator on the hunt.

Sheriff's detective Tony Mendez and his team begin to close in on the suspected killer, desperate to keep the young women of their picturesque town safe. But as the investigators sift through the murky circumstances of an increasingly disturbing case, a stunning question changes everything they thought they knew. In Down the Darkest Road, #1 New York Times bestseller Tami Hoag proves again why she is one of the world's most beloved storytellers.

My Review:

At one time the Lawton family were very happy with a husband, wife and two beautiful daughters.  But that all changed when Leslie the eldest daughter at 16 years old was kidnapped and Lance the father couldn't handle losing her he drove his car over a mountainous road two years after the event.  Now Lauren's motive is to make the man responsible Roland Ballencoa  pay for his crime.  Four years later Lauren has moved from Santa Barbara to the small town of Oak Knoll with Leah her younger daughter to start a new life.  When she shops at a grocery store she swears she sees the Roland Ballencoa and follows him out to the parking lot.  She races after him which catches the attention of Detective Tony Mendez and he pulls her over.  When he realizes who she is and who she thought she saw he decides to look into the case to find out if a dangerous child predator has moved into his backyard.

I really enjoy how they solve cases back in the 80's before modern technology was discovered.  How they did it by hand.

It was great to catch up with Anne, Vince and their children.  It was fun to see both of them involved in the case and how they helped.

Danni Tanner was an interesting character because of her potty mouth but she really cares about people.  Liked her romance with Tony.

The main villain was really gross and disgusting.  I was really disappointed how he got away and was never convicted of the crimes he was accused of.

4/5
