About HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

On leave from Afghanistan, Army Master Sergeant Collier Ward is excited to be reunited with his family for Christmas. But the best gift of all may be this warm, beautiful stranger who joins them for the festivities. With his visit coming to an end, Collier can't deny the heat smoldering between them. Iris folded her hands at her waist. “How long will it take for me to find out everything I need to know about you, Mr. Special Forces?”

Collier’s body stiffened in shock, he momentarily speechless. How had she known? Had Tracy told Iris about his military background? “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Iris took a step, bringing them within inches of the other. “Yes, you do, Collier. I grew up an Army brat and my father retired last year as a full bird, so the fact that you’re in the military and Tracy has been as closed-mouthed as a clam about you speaks volumes.” She rested a hand on his chest. “There are no photographs of you anywhere in this house and she’s never mentioned you by name. That means you’re Delta Force, Green Beret, Ranger or Navy SEAL. Please don’t insult my intelligence by denying it.”

He covered her hand with his free one. “If you know so much, you also know it’s not something we can talk about. What do you want me to say?”

She rose on tiptoe. “Just tell me I’m right.”

Collier stared at her mouth under lowered lids. He wanted to kiss her. Really kiss Iris with the passion he found hard to control whenever they were together. “You’re right,” he whispered.

“Thank you,” she drawled, barely able to keep the laughter from her voice. She executed a snappy salute, then turned on her heels and walked in the direction of the kitchen, Collier’s eyes fixed on her hips in the fitted jeans.

Oh, this was going to be interesting. Time to step up his game.

New Releases 2014 (Dec 2)

New Releases

"Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don't. If you get it, then you don't really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don't get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense."

But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she'll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake's best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She's accomplished, beautiful, and she's crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can't meet that need, just like she can't meet Jason's need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn't understand why Jason isn’t content to go elsewhere for a need she can’t fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita's life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget.

Vampire princess Calla Shaw has seen her own share of heartbreak, but she can tell that the wild attraction she and Nick feel for each other could turn into something significant — if only he’d let it. But Calla isn’t about to give up on her mate without a fight.

Time is running out, not only for Nick to claim his mate, but for Calla and her coven. A vampire war is on the horizon, one the Alpha Pack can’t hope to win if their leader can’t pull himself back from the abyss.

New York Times bestselling author Keri Arthur brings her Dark Angels series to a breathtaking conclusion as half-werewolf, half-Aedh Risa Jones treads a knife’s edge between the salvation of the human race and its total annihilation.

The search for the last key to the gates of hell has begun, and half-werewolf, half-Aedh Risa Jones is in more danger than ever—and one misstep could prove ruinous. It's only a matter of time before Madeleine Hunter, the dangerous head of the vampire council, begins her hunt for complete domination. And for Risa, that comes with an alarming ultimatum: hand over the last key to Hunter or, one by one, her loved ones will die.

Now, it’s a race against time for Risa to save those she loves, and to stop Hunter's apocalyptic plan to open the very gates of hell.

INCLUDES A BONUS EXCERPT OF KERI ARTHUR’S FIREBORN

In New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards’s latest heart-pounding romantic suspense novel, a woman must track down her husband’s murderer — or risk being the next victim of a vicious killer.

When Riley Cowan finds her estranged husband Jeff dead in his palatial home, she’s sure it’s no coincidence. The police rule it a suicide, but Riley thinks someone’s out for blood — specifically someone Jeff’s father ripped off in one of the biggest financial fraud cases of all time. She suspects that someone is trying to send a message to Jeff’s father: Tell me where the money is, or everyone you care about will die.

Riley’s in-laws might be billionaires, but she’s afraid that not even their dirty money can protect her from an irate investor who will stop at nothing to get his hands on his misappropriated cash. Enter Finn Bradley, Philly-based FBI agent and Riley’s love interest from way back when. Finn agrees to help Riley, and the two reignite sparks they both thought were extinguished long ago. But can they discover the killer’s identity in time, before he resurfaces — and strikes again?

In Laura Childs’s New York Times bestselling mystery series, Suzanne, Petra, and Toni — co-owners of the Cackleberry Club Café — are equally good at serving up breakfast and serving up justice. This time they turn up the heat on a deadly firebug.

As Suzanne is getting her hair colored at Root 66, she’s stunned to witness the County Services office next door suddenly go up in flames. Concerned neighbors throng the streets, and the fire department does their best. Unfortunately, their best isn’t enough to save longtime civil service worker — and friend to the Cackleberry Club — Hannah Venable.

Soon enough, it’s discovered that an accelerant was used to fan the flames. Someone set the fire on purpose — was Hannah the intended victim? Suzanne, Petra, and Toni vow to smoke out the culprit.

Unfortunately, the list of suspects is as varied as the Cackleberry Club’s menu. When Suzanne finds a possible connection between the fire and the nearby Prairie Star Casino, she comes to realize that the arsonist wanted something very big and bad kept secret. And if the ladies aren’t careful, they may be the ones gambling with their lives.

Excerpt

“Baby, come on. Let them be. They deserve a beautiful wedding not an elopement in a tacky fake church.” Lila glides her hand up the front of his chest, stands on her tiptoes, and kisses his neck. Then she whispers something in his ear as she plays with his hair.

I’ll admit they make a cute couple, especially now that Lila has this whole grunge thing going. Her blond hair is chin length and streaked with black that matches Ethan’s hair. She’s wearing jeans and a tank top that aren’t name brand like everything she used to wear when we were living together. Her style goes well with Ethan’s laidback look: his plaid shirt and faded jeans and a pair of sneakers that he’s probably owned since he was sixteen. And Lila’s average height allows her to nestle her head against Ethan’s chest comfortably. Looking at them with the sunlight and my house in the backdrop, I find myself wishing I had time to draw them.

After a lot of kissing and whispering in Ethan’s ear, Lila convinces him to stop complaining and he begrudgingly agrees that Vegas is a ridiculous idea and that Micha and I should get married in Star Grove.

“A week is not a lot of time to prepare a wedding,” Lila declares, pulling her sunglasses over her eyes. “Not a real one with decorations, flowers, dresses, tuxes, and guests. God, I wish we had more time to plan this.”

“And I wish you wouldn’t take any time to plan it,” I say, and when she frowns I sigh. “Sorry, I’m just not into wedding stuff.” I round the car to the passenger side of the Chevelle, trailing my finger across a few dings and chips in the black paint that were put there when Micha intentionally crashed it into the snow bank.

Micha opens the driver door and steps back so Ethan can climb into the backseat. “It doesn’t matter what kind of wedding we have,” he says, “just as long as Ella’s there with me. In fact, we don’t even need dresses and tuxes. We could even be naked and standing in my backyard and I’d be okay.” He winks at me over the roof of the car. “As long as we’re together, I’ll be happy and being naked would just be an added bonus.”

This makes Lila giggle as she ducks her head and hops into the backseat with Ethan. I push the seat back, get in the car, and shut the door, then pull the visor down to block the sunlight.

Micha adjusts the driver’s seat before he closes the door and starts the engine. “So is everyone ready for this?” He looks around at the three of us, but when his eyes finally land on me I know he only really cares about my answer.

It takes me a second to answer and he notices my hesitation and his expression starts to fall. But even though my throat feels dry I manage to say, “Of course.” My voice trembles a little.

“Okay then.” Giving me a small but slightly forced smile, he backs down the driveway and drives toward the highway, toward home where all of this started. Where Micha and I first met, first talked, first played, kissed, fooled around, danced, said I love you.

Where Micha and I began.

Alarmingly, Gideon’s eyelids suddenly began to flutter. Moaning softly, he moved his head from side-to-side, as if he was trying to rouse himself from a deep slumber. A split-second later, Jessica found herself gazing into a pair of mesmerizing, blue eyes.

In those super-charged moments, a spark of recognition flashed between them, Jessica absolutely certain that she knew Gideon MacAllister from somewhere.

Without so much as moving a muscle, Gideon stared at her with what could only be called a look of profound longing.

Continuing to hold her in that steadfast gaze, Gideon secured a hand around each of her upper arms as he pulled her toward him. There was nothing rough or forceful in his manner; he was merely determined. Inexplicably excited, Jessica drew in a serrated breath. Having lost the ability to think clearly, she instinctively anchored her hands against Gideon’s shoulders. As though she’d just stuck a wet finger in a light socket, all ten fingers began to tingle.

In a slow, unhurried fashion, Gideon appraised her flushed face before his gaze slid down her neck, finally coming to a rest on her visibly heaving chest. Glancing downward, Jessica saw that her nipples were indecently outlined against her cotton T-shirt.

Breathlessly attuned to the impassioned silence that vibrated between them, Jessica knew that she had to pull away from him. Now. Before it was too late.

And though that was what she intended to do, her body simply refused to comply with her brain’s “retreat” order. If anything, her heart contrarily demanded that she stay put, certain that if she remained there long enough, Gideon would.

Yes. Just as her rebellious heart had hoped, Gideon raised his head to kiss her.

The instant that his lips touched hers, Jessica insanely thought that she may very well have been waiting for this moment her entire life. Even crazier than that, she was hit with a jolt of all-encompassing familiarity, too enthralled to ponder how such a thing could even be possible.

What began as a sweetly tender kiss snowballed into something else entirely, Gideon deepening the kiss, one intimate degree at time. As he suckled on her lower lip, a muffled whimper of pleasure lodged in Jessica’s throat. Welcoming his ardent exploration, she opened her mouth, reveling in the twining of lips and tongues.

And, boy, did it feel good. The kind of good that made her heart pound and her hips twitch. Eager for more, she brazenly smashed her breasts against Gideon’s torso. When he shuddered against her, Jessica deduced that he was as deeply affected by the kiss as she was.

Needing to pull air into her lungs, Jessica had no choice but to break the connection between their two mouths. His eyes closed shut, Gideon moved a hand to the back of her neck, his lips blazing a trail along the column of her neck.

Charlene stood in the kitchen doorway, her hair wet, her stomach empty, and her heart suddenly racing. Mike leaned against the counter, his head hung low. He seemed to be struggling to draw breath.

She crossed the room and put her hand on the middle of his back. His T-shirt was soft, the body beneath it hard and warm.

He straightened and let out a big breath. "Sorry."

"What's wrong?"

"Killer heartburn," he said, then immediately changed the subject. He moved toward the coffee maker, shaking off her touch. "You want some coffee?"

He turned and gave her a quick glance. That's all it took.

Her heart wrenched, and she responded the way she always did when confronted with unspoken pain. She encountered it often, usually in the eyes of animals. But it was there, beyond that mild-mannered expression he tried to wear. He was hurting. She reached up to stroke his cheek. Her fingers encountered his warm skin and rough stubble. That touch flipped her switch. Electricity flowed inside her.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as her fingers moved over his face to his ear and up into his bright red hair.

"Don't," he whispered, but he made no attempt to move away. He reminded her of an abused animal that growls when all he wants is a little kindness. She cupped the nape of his neck and pulled him down as she rose up on tip-toes.

She gave him a soft, gentle kiss. Nothing deep or sexy, just a little kiss, intended to comfort. But it didn't stay that way. Mike grabbed her by the cheeks and pulled her up into it like a man starving for love. His tongue stroked hers. His right hand dropped to her hip, and he yanked her forward and into his chest.

Her knees almost buckled. But she didn't fall, because Mike had her. His hand found the small of her back as he sagged against the counter. They leaned together, thigh to thigh, chest to chest. The kiss turned utterly carnal. His hand wandered up over her spine to her breast. He palmed it. Her nipples came alive. He groaned.

And her whole body throbbed.

She broke the kiss and looked up into his face. His eyes had dilated with desire. His breath sounded ragged. His skin flushed red.

"I want you," he said in a hoarse voice. "I want to strip you naked and do it right here in the kitchen."

His words ignited a bad-girl fire that pretty much torched her reservations about him. "Okay."

His gaze widened. "I'm not a reliable bet," he said.

She laughed. "You think I don't know that?"

"Oh."

She could almost feel him having second thoughts. And she had no intention of allowing that. She'd have the rest of her life to regret this choice. Or not.

Which would she regret more? Letting her reservations about him put the kibosh on this? Or spending the rest of her life wondering if maybe she should have bet on Mike Taggart?

Heartbreak was her middle name. "I'm a gambler," she whispered. "And sometimes the long shots pay off."

"Not usually," he said.

"Maybe not. But I'm the eternal optimist.”
