PNR Review: Rise of the Gryphon (Belador) Mass Market Paperback

I've finished "Rise of the Gryphon" the 4th book in her Belador series by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love.

Book Description

An Alterant who fights trolls, demons, and other deadly creatures, Evalle is an outcast among the Beladors. But now she can change all that — and finally get answers about her origins. In her attempt to take down the Belador traitor and bring home a captured friend, she infiltrates the dangerous Medb coven, where she discovers exactly what an Alterant really is — and the news is not good for the Beladors.

Meanwhile, Evalle’s best friends Tzader and Quinn face unthinkable choices, as relationships with the women they love grow twisted. Evalle’s relationship with the Skinwalker Storm becomes even more complicated when the witch doctor he’s been hunting begins to stalk Evalle. With death breathing down her neck, Evalle is forced to embrace her destiny but at what price?

My Review:

I really like the latest development between Evalle and Storm's relationship because it's obvious he really loves her and will do anything to protect her.  I'm glad he's with her to help find Tristan and that was very generous of him to participate in that fighting match.

It was pretty interesting to find out Evalle's true origin and how that information affects her personally and professionally.

It's pretty cruel and sadistic how the Medb Queen treats her daughter Kizira and that isn't right.

He embarks on a desperate trek to save not only Rebecca but his own soul in an Africa torn apart by wars, overpopulation and the slaughter of its last wildlife.

Based on the author’s own experiences pursuing elephant poachers in the wilds of East Africa, The Last Savanna is an intense personal memoir of humanity’s ancient heartland, the beauty of its perilous deserts, jungles, and savannas, and the deep, abiding power of love.

Our Feature is Stalked! Twin Spin

When did you start blogging?

We actually started blogging back in 2011 with the encouragement of my (Kristine) 12 yr old daughter who blogs. Shortly after, Terri (the other half of Twin Spin) was diagnosed with a rare muscle disease and had a rough year getting it under control and we had to let it slide. This year has been a very positive year with her health so we started regularly blogging again back in September.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

We love it all! Being able to talk about our favorite passtime to other like minded people is great. We love connecting with so many wonderful people.

What type of books do you mainly blog about?

We try to cover as many different genres as we can so that we have a wide range for everyone. Lately I have been blogging a lot of New Adult and Terri has been blogging a lot of Historical Fiction but we are not limited to that.

What is your favorite book(s)?

This is a tough one to answer because we have read so many great books. Some authors that we really enjoy and agree on are Kate Morton, Sarah Jio and Diane Chamberlain. Terri’s favorite book that she has read in recent years is The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I can’t pick just one although I did adore The Fault in our Stars by John Green.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I think that the best thing would be connecting with so many great authors that we would never have heard of if it wasn’t for blogging. We’ve had the opportunity to read a lot of great titles from up and coming authors that we would not have found otherwise. Connecting with so many other bloggers and talking books is an added bonus as well!

Our Feature - Highway-YA

1. When did you start blogging?

I started at the end of June so it is going on 6 months.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

It's a lot that I love but the main one is that I can connect with other bloggers and just talk books. I get to see what others are reading, get recommendations for books and participate in different events.

What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I'm a Young Adult librarian so the majority are Y.A. A couple of months ago I found out about New Adult Fiction so I blog about those also.

4. What are your favorite books?

The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare, Fallen Series by Lauren Kate, Hush Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick, and the Lux Series by Jennifer Armentrout.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I have met so many different Authors and it makes me feel really good when I see that an author wants me to review a book for them. I literally check my email in the mornings just to see about new notifications and review request.

Q: What’s your favorite Thanksgiving Day food? If you’re not American or Canadian, what is your favorite holiday food?

My favorite Thanksgiving Day foods are the delicious cranberry sauce and stuffing together (yummy can't have enough of this).  I also really enjoy any pies (except for pumpkin) and a chocolate cake (my family raves about my cake).

PNR Review: Styxx (Dark-Hunter) Hardcover

I've finished "Styxx" the 23rd book in her Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's most highly-anticipated novel in the Dark-Hunter series since Acheron is here — the unforgettable story of Styxx, Acheron's twin brother and one of the most powerful beings on earth

Just when you thought doomsday was over

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn’t always been on his brother’s side. They’ve spent more centuries going at each other’s throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he’s willing to trade his life and future for Acheron’s.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished. Until now.

She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her. But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it’s hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it's your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

My Review:

Styxx's book is very heart wrenching with tales of torture, violence and all he had to endure from childhood to adulthood.  I've always had a soft spot for Styxx even though I didn't really like him that much.

Ryssa is such an awful sister who is vindictive, spoiled, rotten to the core and the apple of her father's eye.  I can't believe how she treats Ash and Styxx differently one she treats like a god and the other like dirt.  She sure got her comeuppance!

I really like how Sherrilyn handled the relationship between Ash and Styxx and I thought it was well written and descriptive.  Really glad they finally trust each other and will die for one another.

Not for the fate of heart because the child abuse, torture and violence are really brutal, cruel and extremely descriptive!

My Review:

Kaname has finally returned to Cross Academy to kill Sara Shirabuki while a few members of the Vampire Hunter Society seem conflicted on which side they support.  Sara isn't going down without a fight and is using the Vampire Hunter Society, Yuki and feeding Zero her blood to control him but she doesn't know that Kaname has also fed him his blood.

Kaname and Ichijo are reunited and Rima comes rushing towards them because she wants both her guys back.  Hanabusa and Kain's reunion doesn't go as plan and Ruka saves Zero from Kaname which he believes is a big betrayal.

The artwork is gorgeous as usual and the action is more tense and bloody.  Emotions are more intensified and realizations are being discovered.

Our Feature is Stalked! Reviews by Melissa

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging a year and a half to two years ago.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

My favorite part is the people and the fact that I can openly spew my opinions about books. I have met so many amazing people in my blogging journey so far that it’s well worth all the long nights you put in sometimes. Oh and did I mention that I love to share my opinions about stuff? lol

What type of books do you mainly blog about?

I blog about all kinds of books but I am in an adult/romance phase lately. Oh and I read a lot of erotica too. I know that it’s still a bit of a taboo to be open about reading “the porn” but sometimes there are great stories hiding amongst the smut.

What is your favorite book(s)?

Anything by V.C. Andrews, Master of the Shadowlands (or anything really) by Cherise Sinclair, The Mortal Instruments series, The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning, The Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton, ummmm…. there are just SO many. Too many to list all of them in fact. This is a great start though.

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Meeting authors. It’s awesome to be able to talk to the people that write some of your favorite books, discuss their work with them, and be able to get to know them on a personal level.

Our Feature - Hopelessly Devoted Bibliophile

1. When did you start blogging?

Wow, almost four years ago! In April 2010 I stumbled my way into the book blogging world and haven't looked back since. I was fascinated by the fact that there were other people out there who loved books as much as I did! It was like a dream come true!

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

I'd have to say it's a tie between being able to share my opinions with other like-minded individuals, and the community that I found since I started up. I know people come and go, but there are always bloggers to talk to. Always other bibliophiles to gush over new titles with and drool over new covers. It's nice to have a set of people who don't run screaming when you babble on and on about your favorite series. I also completely love helping people find favorite new reads or, better still, helping them rediscover why reading is such an awesome pastime. It makes me feel good to share what I love!

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

In truth, I dabble in reading a little bit of everything. I think Young Adult books dominate my blog a lot of the time, simply because they end up being blog tours. However if you take a look at my reading list, you'll see everything from picture books to Historical Fiction. I read whatever strikes my fancy, and blog the same way. Can I just say I mainly blog about good books? ;)

4. What are your favorite books?

Once again, it's a tie! There are two books that I've dog-eared, smashed, torn, and then had to buy another copy multiple times since I was young. The first is The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. I still remember the first time I cracked open a copy and was lost inside. I loved the puns, and the playful writing. To quote my favorite part, “So many things are possible just as long as you don't know they're impossible.” That's just what a young reader needs to hear. The second is more recent, and that's The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. I don't know what it is about Gaiman's writing, but I'm drawn to it. Nobody Owens became my favorite character from the moment I met him, and I've happily passed copies of this book on to as many people as I can since then.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

Honestly? The friends I've made. People who, despite never having met them in person, I've had phone conversations with, laughed with, and totally connected to. It's always funny to me how the people I've met through blogging are such an important part of my life, even though we've never been in the same room together. Social media has really changed the way people interact. I totally love it!

Q: You Are It! We are playing #FF tag this week. Comment on as many blogs as you can, even if they aren’t participating in #FF. Just say Happy #FF! At the end of your comment. Keep a running total if you want and update your post with it. The bigger the number the more impressed we will be!

Mimi Jean Pamfiloff Accidentally Married to a Vampire Blog Tour with Giveaway

I am so excited to have Mimi Jean Pamfiloff here at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews with a Giveaway.

Thanks Mimi and Veronica at Hachette Book Group for allowing me to join your Accidentally Married to a Vampire Blog Tour!

Please take it away, Mimi

Votan, God of Death and War Gets a Makeover

by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

That’s right. The God of Death and War is getting a sexy makeover. Why does he need one? Good question. He doesn’t! But what if you had the chance to waive a magic wand and make your dream man just a smidgeon dreamier, a tad more sizzling, and a hair more alpha-manlier? Would you do it? Why the hell not! That would be like saying no to those chocolate sprinkles on that sundae.

And hey, and let’s be honest, Votan was my first creation in the Accidentally Yours series. He’s original awesomeness—overbearing, hotter than an apple pie fresh from the oven, and nearly indestructible at seven feet. He’s super concentrated divine masculinity. But he did have one small handicap: me!

ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE WITH…A GOD? was only the second novel I’d ever written (and my first if you count that the story is an adaptation of that initial stab at writing). Since its Indie debut in Jan. 2012, I’ve written several more, taking feedback from readers and writers along the way to improve. These final installments of the series (under Grand Central Publishing) had the added benefit of a fabulous editor, Latoya Smith. (Mimi! Get to the point!)

Getting there!

Point is, you’re never too old to change! After about 100K e-copies sold, it was time for Votan (and Emma) to get a little professional makeover! (Insert applause for Latoya here.)

Yes, it’s still the same, quirky, crazy story, but I hope the readers will find Votan and Emma a little bit steamier. (I added an extra yummy scene!) Emma also got a tiny makeover (just as snarky as before, but less whiny). And Tommaso, well, he’s still the same sexy bad boy who confuses us.

I hope everyone enjoys that New & Improved, Mass Market paperback. My 1stever!!! (Insert image of Mimi disco dancing wildly next to Cimil here.) For those who’ve got the ebook, I understand you’ll have the opportunity to also enjoy this revised edition.

HAPPY READING ALL!

Mimi

This is book 2 in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling paranormal romance Accidentally Yours series.

"If you love her, set her free. If she comes back, she's yours. If she doesn't...Christ! Stubborn woman! Hunt her down, and bring her the hell back; she's still yours according to vampire law."

- Niccolo DiConti, General of the Vampire Queen's Army.

After a three-century "time out," legendary vampire Niccolo DiConti vows to fulfill an ancient prophecy and, along the way, defeat the demented queen of the damned. All he has to do is find his human mate, seduce her into agreeing to become a vampire, and bond her to him forever. Luckily, he's handsome, charming, and mind-blowing in bed. How hard could this be?

On vacation in sultry Mexico, biologist Helena Strauss makes the discovery of a lifetime when she meets Niccolo-and finds herself caught in a world of supernatural secrets and dangerous delights. Even more shocking is that he seems to know everything about her and claims her as his true immortal companion. Sure, she can't take her eyes - or mouth - off this gorgeous, perfect being. But can a hot-blooded gal like her really settle down with a cold-hearted vampire?

And once Brinkman finds Jacoby, the agent is left severely wounded, with no way to convey his location to Haven.

Callie Davis, an agent with the FBI’s Special Crimes Unit, has been in the area for some time, due to the foresight of her boss and unit chief, Noah Bishop. But when she finds the wounded Brinkman, her rescue mission turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

What neither Luther nor Callie know is that their quarry is far more than an escaped bank robber. And that in hunting him, they will find themselves being hunted by him, and will discover him to be the worst monster either of them has ever known.

Takedown Twenty: A Stephanie Plum Novel Hardcover

Stephanie Plum has her sights set on catching a notorious mob boss. If she doesn’t take him down, he may take her out.

New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum knows better than to mess with family. But when powerful mobster Salvatore “Uncle Sunny” Sunucchi goes on the lam in Trenton, it’s up to Stephanie to find him. Uncle Sunny is charged with murder for running over a guy (twice), and nobody wants to turn him in — not his poker buddies, not his bimbo girlfriend, not his two right-hand men, Shorty and Moe. Even Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, has skin in the game, because — just Stephanie’s luck — the godfather is his actual godfather. And while Morelli understands that the law is the law, his old-world grandmother, Bella, is doing everything she can to throw Stephanie off the trail.

It’s not just Uncle Sunny giving Stephanie the run-around. Security specialist Ranger needs her help to solve the bizarre death of a top client’s mother, a woman who happened to play bingo with Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur. Before Stephanie knows it, she’s working side by side with Ranger and Grandma at the senior center, trying to catch a killer on the loose — and the bingo balls are not rolling in their favor.

With bullet holes in her car, henchmen on her tail, and a giraffe named Kevin running wild in the streets of Trenton, Stephanie will have to up her game for the ultimate takedown.
