K.M. Facett Blog Tour with a Guest Post

I am so excited to have K.M. Facett here at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews with a Guest Post.

Thanks K.M. and Hachette Book Group for allowing me to join your Captive blog tour!

Please take it away, K.M.!

Thank you so much for having me on the blog today!

One of the exciting things I was able do with CAPTIVE (book 1 in the Survival Race series) was incorporate my running and martial arts experience into the story.

The Survival Race is a blood sport where the last gladiator alive wins. The competitors are challenged to utilize their strength, endurance, wits, survival skills, and combat skills to fight alien creatures, a harsh arctic environment, and each other. The Hyboreans, the master race on this planet, gamble upon the human warriors in competitions that could last for days or weeks.

Alpha gladiator Max defends the heroine and himself using weapons such as swords, spears, and a Flesheater. The Flesheater is a real 14” combat knife designed by karate master and retired marine Master Sergeant, A.J. Advincula. I own a Jim Hammond custom made Flesheater (though my husband mistakenly claims it’s his) and train with it. Okay, technically speaking we mostly train with hard plastic replicas of the knife (safety first) and keep the real one in our collection. We also train with sticks rather than with real swords.

I find the best way to work out fight scene choreography is to get out of the chair and experiment. Lucky for me, my husband is very obliging. He doesn’t think twice when asked to throw a punch or hold a knife to my throat.

What do you mean that’s not normal? Perhaps I should mention we own a dojo where we teach Isshinryu karate, Ryukonkai (Okinawan weapons), and self-defense. Attacking and defending is actually quite normal for us. :)

While my heroine doesn’t have hand-to-hand combat experience, she does know how to defend herself. She was a rookie law enforcement officer at a national park before her abduction to Hyborea. Trapped in a cell with no doors, no windows, and a naked alpha gladiator claiming to be her mate, Addy is expected to breed warriors for the Survival Race. To rebel means torture, or worse, but Addy refuses to be a human broodmare and fends off the hero’s advances.

And that’s when the real trouble begins.

The last thing Addy Dawson remembers is a blazing inferno and freezing river water overtaking her lungs. When she awakens, Addy finds herself on a strange, alien planet, trapped in a cell with no doors, no windows -- and to her horror -- a naked warrior who claims to be her mate.

An alpha gladiator, Max is forced to breed and produce the finest specimens for the Survival Race, a deadly blood sport created by the alien rulers of Hyborea. To rebel means torture or worse, yet Max refuses to become the animal his captors want him to be. But their jailors will not be denied, and soon Addy and Max find themselves unwilling players in this cruel game. Pushed to the limit, they will risk everything for the chance at a life free from captivity. And though fate brought them together as adversaries, Max and Addy will discover that when they're together, there's nothing in the universe that can stop them .
