My Review:

I highly recommend reading this series in order but even if you don't you understand what is happening.  You won't know some of the key players though.

In this volume Ryuka and Ixto pretend to be lovers so that Aldin's parents would believe they are star-crossed lovers who can't touch each other in real life.  Aldin's father agrees to allow them to use the Dragon Breath so they can finally touch.  They manage to obtain the Dragon Breath but Aldin and Ral still need to past another test and obtain a sword.  Accompanying them is Aldin's man servert Ji-San who says he will help him obtain the sword.  As you see Ral has a curse placed on him which makes him turn into a horse and both are hoping they would be able to break the spell once they obtain the sword.  They manage to get the sword when a witch girl appears and asks them a question which they answer truthfully and Ral's spell is revoked.  She also gives them a scarf to release once they use the magic powers of the Dragon Breath.

Aldin's parents can't except that Aldin has picked Ral as his life partner and they throw him out of the mansion but Aldin's oldest brother makes a demand that if Aldin can spend three years in college and Ral works for him for three years he will finally let them leave the mansion together.  They both agree but meanwhile Ixto has offered to shelter his powers into the Dragon Breath Lamp.  He gets Ryuka to agree to show his gratitude in a more meaningful way later.  Ixto gets Coon to get another room so he and Ryuka can!  The next morning Ryuka could tell that Ixto was acting different.  When he calls Ixto he doesn't come and Ryuka thinks it's only because he can be summoned only during the night.

Ryuka and Coon find themselves in a dire predictment (they are going to be raped) but are saved by a couple of guys that Ixto knows.  Ryuka promises that they can do anything to his body if only he could arrive on the Moon planet.  He learns that Ixto is imprisoned because he broke a Moon rule which was he stored his powers to help reach the Moon planet.

I highly recommend this yaoi manga if you like hot guys, very steamy and sizzling love scenes and a great storyline.

I've finished "Next of Kin" the 1st book in her Rebel Ridge series by Sharon Sala.

But her homecoming — even her blissful reunion with strong, silent Ryal Walker — is made bittersweet by the fight she's brought to the clan's doorstep. Hidden in a remote cabin with the man she's always wanted, Beth begins to dream of a new life: her old one. But after so long, with such dangers stalking her … impossible.

My Review:

While staying at a her friend Sarah's house Beth Venable witnesses a murder taking place next door.  When the mobster finds out there was witness he puts out hit and kills Sarah.  Beth is placed in protective witness protection but the mobster seems to find out which safe house she is taken too.  After the third house has been breached she decides family would be able to keep her safe.

Ten years ago when Beth was seventeen years old her and her family left Rebel Ridge abruptly.  It tore her and Ryal Walker the only man she has ever loved apart.  She never knew the real reason why they left but assumed her parents didn't want her and Ryal together. She places a frantic call to her Uncle and he sets her up with his network of trucker friends to transfer her home to safe and sound where her family can keep her safe.

Beth's grandmother Lou asks Ryal to help protect Beth and they decide to use his grandfather's rustic old cabin up in the Appalachian wilderness as their hideout.  Ryal is now 35 years old and has never married.  He has never forgotten about Beth and all his letters he sent her in Los Angeles came back unopened.  We find out they are fourth cousins and even though there is bad blood between their families he is determined to keep her safe.

As they spend their days in the rustic cabin they finally have a big talk and realize they were both victims in the event that happened seventeen years ago.  Beth is the last to know a big family secret that involves her parents.

This book was very suspenseful, thrilling, high-octave action packed romantic suspense with a bitter sweet romance.

My Review:

Jake Sommers known as "the Snake earned his SEAL codename by striking quickly and stealthy with deadly force.  Four years ago he broke Michelle Carter's heart by rejecting her love.  He believed it was to keep her safe from him.  Now four years later he is determined to win her heart again and have a second chance with her.  But he will have to prove that he never stopped loving her and she doesn't make it easy for him.

Michelle Carter has never forgiven Jake for his love her and leave her attitude.  Her brother Frank head of the special ops agency Black Knights Inc. ticks off the wrong mob she must place her life into Jake's hands.  She has always loved him and has keep a major secret from him which when finds out he quite angry.  I don't blame him because it's a major secret but I wish he would have talked with her instead of giving her the silent treatment.  Michelle has a hard time trusting Jake because she compares him to her father who cheated on her mom and left them.

This book was very thrilling from the beginning to the end of the book with a really messed up villain who was truly a monster.

Trucker Ghost Stories: And Other True Tales of Haunted Highways, Weird Encounters, and Legends of the Road [Paperback]

Product Description

In a uniquely entertaining book by a rising star, here are uncanny true tales of haunted highways, weird encounters, and legends of the road.

It may have happened to you; it’s happened to almost everyone who’s ever driven down a highway at night, or in the fog, or snow. Something suddenly appears: a flash of movement, a shadow ... what was it? It could be, as the true stories in this book attest, a ghost.

These are true stories from the highways and byways of America. These firsthand accounts are as varied as the storytellers themselves — some are detailed and filled with the terror and suspense that made people feel they had to share what happened to them with others; others are brief and straightforward retellings of truly chilling events.

Here is a chupacabra attack on the desert highway between L.A. and Las Vegas; ghost trains and soldiers; UFOs; the prom girl ghost of Alabama; a demon in Texas, and other accounts of the creepy, scary things that truckers and other drivers and passengers told to editor Annie Wilder.

With so many different stories, Trucker Ghost Stories moves beyond the usual haunted house to offer stories to entice any ghost story reader...and anyone who’s ever wondered ....

PNR Review: Shadow Rising (Dark Dynasties) [Mass Market Paperback]

I've finished "Shadow Rising" the 3rd book in her Dark Dynasties series by Kendra Leigh Castle.

My Review:

Ariane is a Grigori a secret noble society of vampires and has spent her life tucked away in the desert.  Her job is to observe not act as a watcher.  When her best friend Sammuel goes missing she defies her leader and flees her home to bring him back.

Damien Tremaine is a Sith cat shifter assassin with an agenda to bring back the missing vampire Sammuel.  His journeys leads him to Arianne the vampire rogue who stands in his way.  He is always calm, collected and doesn't let emotion stand in his way but Arianne's touch breaks his control.

Arianne and Damien form a truce and decide to team up to find Sammuel.  They discover a dark and sinister secret at the heart of the Grigori and they must decide on a plan that can bind them together or tear them apart forever.

At first the book was quite light and funny but then it become darker as you continue reading.

I really enjoyed how Arianne and Damien's relationship started as attraction and allies and gradually to respect, affection and finally trust and love.  It built up slowly but when it finally burned it was hot and steamy.

Our Feature Nina @ J’adore Happy Endings

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging since September 2009.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?

My favourite part of book blogging is getting to know other bloggers and authors. And also get to know readers with similar reading taste. I love that!

What is your favorite book(s)?

There are a lot of books that I consider my favourite. A couple of my favourites are Emma by Jane Austen (I love rereading this book!), From What I Remember by Stacey Kramer & Valerie Thomas (one of my favourite contemporary books this year) and Carrie Pilby by Caren Lissner (love!).

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

The comments that people leave at my blog. That always puts a smile on my face! The love from other bloggers, reaching blogging goals, reading books that are recommended to me, but are out of my comfort zone and absolutely loving them.

Q: What is the BIGGEST word you’ve seen used in a book lately – that made you stop and look it up? Might as well leave the definition & book too.

I actually haven’t looked up a word in a long while now! But, let’s pretend I just read Emma by Jane Austen. A couple of the words that I had to look up were: boast (show-off), caprice (a sudden desire) & alacrity (liveliness and eagerness).

(un)Conventional Bookviews

1. When did you start blogging?

I am still new (in my mind at least) as I only started blogging in June of this year.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

It's getting to know new bloggers, I have discovered so many new book-blogs these past few months, and I love reading other people's point of view on books I have already read. It has also made my already convoluted TBR list bigger. There are so many passionate bloggers out there who make me want to read even more books that I usually read.

3. What is your favorite book(s)?

My favorite books that I've read this year are Chasing Magic, Stormdancer, The Iron Prince and Anna Dressed in Blood.

4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

One is finding so many new friends. Another is that I actually sometimes get ARC's now. I love being able to read books before every other reader gets their hands on them.

Q: What is the BIGGEST word you've seen used in a book lately - that made you stop and look it up? Might as well leave the definition & book too.

My Publisbhing Journey

My Publishing Journey - Things I Learned Along the Way

By Bud Bradshaw

There is no one way to write a book. Some writers are able to work within the confines of a strict regimen, and that's fine. They write at a certain time and place each day, rain or shine, and that is the discipline best for them. Conversely, others find that working more sporadically, but in larger chunks of time, is more productive. Wherever your comfort zone might be, remember that, above all, be patient and allow yourself some lattitude. This is the natural bedfellow to "You can't rush a good thing."

If, for some reason, you're having a particularly trying day and your thoughts are not clear - but you force your writing anyway - it is the writing that will suffer. So, don't force it. Yet, you can still work on your writing. Perhaps do some research, learn more about your subject; talk over some hypotheticals with friends (without "talking your book"); sketch an idea for the cover(you don't have to be an artist); worked on the bibliography yet? Will there be a "Sources" section. On the other hand, you'll have good days when your thoughts fly, your characters scream, and your fingers can hardly keep up. Be thankful for those days and capitalize on them, obstacles be damned. The book will build over time, in its own time.

Above all, work with a professional editor. If you don't know one, find one.

About Bud Bradshaw

Bud Bradshaw’s fictional work, “RIVERWALKER,” is his second work, the first being “BRANDISHING,” the true-crime story of the California Highway Patrol’s worst tragedy. RIVERWALKER

BOOK DESCRIPTION

RIVERWALKER features the character debut of San Antonio PD veteran detective Gifford Holloway, a former Special Agent with Army Intelligence. Holloway is in pursuit of the most despicable of criminals, a savage murderer who victimizes children and dumps their remains in the water and along the banks of San Antonio’s beautiful and world-renowned Riverwalk attraction.

Frustrated at the lack of progress on the case and spurred on by an encounter with the mysterious Madame Candelaria, a local psychic, Holloway contemplates calling upon his special gift of “seeing”, though officially off-limits within the SAPD, to help solve the case and end the terror. Along the way, Holloway finds an ally in the capable and sensuous newspaper reporter, Salma Veramendi, who carries her own history of abuse

On the bend of the river looms Adler’s Antiques, a historical landmark owned and operated by Wolff Adler, a drug-pumping psychopath descended from a familial line of predators dating back to post-World War I Germany. Himself a victim of horrendous child abuse, Adler is the offspring of a Nazi father and a Mexican bruja, a witch who practiced the “old” religion. Operating from deep within his secret lair beneath the Alamo, San Antonio’s most recognizable and sacred shrine, Adler assumes the guise of Tlaloc, Aztec god of storm, thunder, and … child sacrifice. Adler’s demonic reign of terror, acting upon a distorted internal belief system - a synthesis of Norse mythology and ancient Aztec practices – has a stranglehold on the residents of San Antonio. Wolff Adler has become the RiverWalker.

When his own daughter is suddenly abducted, Holloway pulls out all the stops and, with Salma by his side, closes in on the killer in a gripping climax.

It couldn’t be worse timing when the pair encounter the ax-wielding ghost of Sally Swarthmore, one of Broken Rope’s legendary murderers, who pleads with Betts to help find her diary--a diary that could prove that Sally was really a victim, not a villain.

Now Betts needs to put the cooking classes on the back burner to untangle two knotty mysteries and rope in a cold-blooded killer.
