When the World is Not Exactly Normal

By Terry Spear

I love creating fantasy worlds, whether all fantasy as in an old world environment, or urban fantasy where the paranormal characters live in a contemporary setting.

In either case, you have to build your world, and stick to it. I remember writing one of my wolf stories and reading part of it to my daughter and she said, “Aren’t the wolves supposed to turn back into their human forms after they die?”

“Yes, of course. Absolutely.” I had forgotten. It had been sometime since I had written the first and I had really forgotten! But it was one of the old werewolf rules that I wanted to include in my stories.

Werewolf rules. Okay, where is it written that werewolves all behave in a certain way? Some actually will argue that there are written rules for werewolf behavior. (Some will say the same about vampires.)

I’d like to know where they got their real live research from. You see, that’s what is fun about creating paranormal characters. We can make them the way we want to. As long as we abide by our own rules!

I do a lot of research though, both about wolf behavior and werewolf lore and love to include these tidbits in the wolf series. Did you know that werewolves were as persecuted in France as witches were during medieval times? I didn’t know that!

I have to say that those who confessed to being werewolves were not really. No werewolf in his right mind would admit to such a thing. Ever. You can read about it in Legend of the White Wolf.

Do you know what good wolfsbane is when it comes to werewolves? This is one of those instances when writers could not agree on the rules. So I made up my own. Based on the truth.

Because my werewolves are real, I get the real story. You can read more about it in Wolf Fever.

What happens when a werewolf falls in love with a human? Disaster. Or not. But the human has to want to be a werewolf. The problem with that is that werewolves can’t let any human know what they are. So if you found the love of your life, what do you do? You have to live without, that’s what.

Or not. In Dreaming of the Wolf, Jake Silver from the Dreaming of the Wolf gray pack of Silver Town, Colorado, falls in love with a female bounty hunter, human type, and knows that nothing can come of it. What if she has family? What if she doesn’t take well to being a wolf? What if the pack leader, his older brother says no?

Though Jake was born as a wolf, and wouldn’t want it to be any other way, he couldn’t/wouldn’t change Alicia for the world. And yet … he can’t get her out of his dreams. She’s reaching out to him … and he wants to take her back and keep her.

But the only way to do that is if she’s a wolf like him.

So what would you do if the hunky man you meet is the one for you, makes all the right moves, loves you like no other, promises you forever…if only…you were a wolf!

Thanks so much for dropping by and saying hi today! And happy holidays!

Thanks so much for having me here today at Paranormal and Romantic Suspense Reviews! My Internet is uber slow this morning. Of course I'm also trying to do 100 things at a once! Good luck to everyone who comments!

Wishing everyone a wolfishly great holiday season!

And one other rule of yours. A human and a wolf can't share erotic dreams. So the title Dreaming of a Wolf must be wrong. And Alicia Greiston sounds like a wolf pack name. Everyone you must read to find out did Terry BooBoo and break a rule or are things not exactly what they seem? I can't tell.
